Once again, this is exactly what I have been saying for years. It is good to see reality breaking through, but it is more likely that the Conservatives will cut ties with Wasiq Wasiq than that they will heed him.
“‘Junk idea of Islamophobia’ says adviser to Conservative racism inquiry,” by Basit Mahmood and Peter Oborne, Middle East Eye, March 31, 2021 (thanks to Henry):
The Conservative Party’s investigation into Islamophobia and other forms of prejudice within the party has recruited an adviser who has called for the idea of Islamophobia to be “junked”, Middle East Eye can reveal.
Wasiq Wasiq, a PhD student at King’s College London, is part of a three-person panel headed by Swaran Singh, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Warwick who was appointed to lead the inquiry in December 2019.
In a column published by the Spiked website under the headline “We need to junk the idea of ‘Islamophobia’”, Wasiq wrote that the term was “an attempt to create a modern-day blasphemy law” and questioned whether Muslims should be considered victims of racism because of their religion.
In another article for Spiked, Wasiq defended Boris Johnson’s Conservative government from accusations of Islamophobia.
The revelation will further raise fears that the party’s investigation is not sufficiently independent, or a serious attempt to tackle Islamophobia, with Singh having previously come under scrutiny over his views, also published in Spiked, on the conflict in Kashmir….
RichardL says
whoa, Wasiq that will make your doctoral committee very unhappy. He will not be on that governmental committee much longer, is my prediction.
James Lincoln says
And, surprisingly, Wasiq Wasiq states that he is a muslim.
He seems enlightened, so why does he remain a muslim?
Infidel says
That’s the first question that comes to mind. If they’re so wise to the tactics and strategy of islam, and if they’re openly warning us about it, why are they not openly apostatizing?
Chris says
Part of their plan. The day they’ll become majority, don’t worry, the term islamophobia will return, full strenght.
Wellington says
Good question, James. I do not see how any sane and informed person, in possession as well of both common sense and moral intelligence, who is brought up a Muslim can remain a Muslim minus the understandable reasons of physical harm and family estrangement. On a pure merit basis, Islam is completely indefensible once one knows what it really says and intends.
RichardL says
you are in counterterrorism and you were born into islam, you claim to be a Muslim so that you are protected and get street cred. I know several big name counterterrorism scholars and consultants who do that. They hate islam. But I also know a seriously good guy who is a sheikh and argues against jihad. But guys like him are very very rare. And then there are frauds like Mubin Sheikh.
gravenimage says
Could be, Richard.
Wellington says
Thanks for the comment. I would look upon such people as proving the physical danger reason to remain a Muslim peppered with a financial and professional motive.

Reply to JL: Wasiq is probably pretending as are about 35% of ‘cultural’ Muslims. They are MINOs. They are 95-99% secular
Rob says
Until they get to Boston or Ft Hood
Raja says
Mortimer,
So you mean to say that there are MINOs who are 95-99% secular but would glorify a jihadi in the local mosque? How many secular Muslims have approached authorities against mullahs who rant and call for murder of Jews and the other kafirs?
Or is it that they are secular but would not participate in any anti-jihad event? I thought only a handful of people participate against Jihad violence and mass murder..
True MINOs might be in majority but to speak for their secular credentials is treading on thin ice.

Swaran Singh, a professor of psychiatry, should be able quickly to debunk the idea that the formal analysis of a POLITICAL IDEOLOGY (Islamism) is a clinical ‘phobia’. In a true ‘phobia’ the patient is unable to speak or concentrate about the object of fear. A truly phobic person ENTIRELY AVOIDS the topic of what triggers the PHOBIC FEAR and alarming PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS that are a part of real phobia.
In fact, the formal study and analysis of POLITICAL Islam is called POLITICAL SCIENCE. The study of POLITICAL ISLAM is a highly intellectual and time-consuming study.
No phobic person would be able to concentrate on studying Islam if he were clinically phobic.
James Lincoln says
That is a correct analysis, mortimer.
If someone has, say, a phobia regarding squirrels, that person would avoid squirrels and avoid any thought or study of squirrels.
On the other hand…
If a non-muslim studies the truth about islam from reliable sources, that person – by definition – does not have a phobia regarding islam…
Wellington says
I agree with both you, James, and mortimer. Phobias drive a person away from what they are phobic about and don’t encourage further association in any manner with the phobia in question. I’ve long thought the term Islamonausea is much more accurate than the phony Islamophobia term.

UK: Advisor to Conservative Party says term ‘Islamophobia’ is ‘attempt to create a modern-day blasphemy law’
…………………
Wasiq Wasiq is right.
Is he a “moderate” Muslim, a reformer, or a low-key apostate?
mortimer says
He is not saying. 35% of Muslims are indeed ‘low-key apostates’, but THEY DON’T SAY SO … they enjoy breathing.
But you know that, GI.
mortimer says
The HOME OFFICE should now FORMALLY APOLOGIZE to ROBERT SPENCER and immediately RESCIND his and Pam Geller’s ban from UK.
Members of the British GOVERNMENT agree with Robert Spencer and Pam Geller and are not afraid to say so in public.
The Home Office should now be CLEANSED by Boris Johnson as Hercules CLEANSED the Aegean Stables!

A phobia is an illogical or unreasonable fear. I think it’s pretty reasonable to have a fear of Islam.
Islamophobia is an oxymoron.
born saturday says
phobia it self as a word means what you say… islamophobia comes from the xenophobia which an ancient greek word that means not phobia but disgust to the xeno which means foreign… so in its true meaning islamophobia means disgust of islam not fear…. however, its true meaning is distorted from the same people who distort any other truth there is about islam and the west, the leftists and other advocates of islam..
born saturday says
lets act as if its the only saria law imposed into europe… because in reality, there is sharia law imposed on many, muslims and non, within europe in the ghettos of islam and wherever the muslims can roam…. unfortunately this is being covered up very neatly by the authorities in each country in most of europe….
Kesselman says
Islamophobia is not a phobia in the psychological use of the term. As rightly stated above it’s an invented word by Islamists and their apologizers. I consider myself highly islamophobic but daily I consult issues concerning this despicable political ideology. Well, not without considerable disgust but I can withstand most of the inconveniencies—just a slight Islamnausea.
somehistory says
No other religious group gets protection from being called names, insulted, slandered, etc.
mozlums are the only ones who are protected….even from the Truth.
and the oic guys coined the term “phobia’ which is fakery, so they could “shame” Americans and others into not telling the Truth about them and their wicked belief system. They saw how it worked with the homosexuals and how they gained protections from “hate,” protections from people just saying things, believing it’s wrong, etc.; so they glommed on.
Christians are not protected from mockery….mozlums are. Jews are supposed to be protected from anti-Semitism…and we see with the U.S. Congress, and university campuses how that’s going, whereas, one is fired, fined, imprisoned even, for being anti-mozlum…even if it’s just that they are anti-islam and it’s evil, filthy subjugation of others.
Will anything change because this person has said the Truth about the fake “phobia,” being what it is?
OLD GUY says
Islamophobia is a falsehood, created to instill sharia type laws in non-islamic countries. It is a block to freedom of speech and nothing more.
