Of course it has. The government in shattered, staggering, dhimmi Britain is paralyzed with fear of its growing and restive Muslim communities, and is increasingly ready to throw Britain’s cherished principles away and embrace Sharia blasphemy laws in exchange for spurious promises of peace and security. And those who might have stood up against this have long ago been demonized, marginalized and silenced by the political elites and the establishment media. All that are left are trimmers, opportunists, self-seekers, and worse. Britain is finished.
“Government has ‘washed its hands’ of teacher who showed Mohammed pictures,” by Camilla Turner, Telegraph, May 3, 2021:
The Government has “washed its hands” of the Batley Grammar School teacher who was suspended after showing pictures of the Prophet Mohammed in class, it has been claimed.
Ministers are not doing enough to ensure that Batley Multi Academy Trust’s investigation is “unduly influenced” by local imams, according to the National Secular Society (NSS).
Officials at the Department for Education (DfE) are also accused of failing to ensure that the probe will examine the school’s reaction to the incident and whether it was appropriate to immediately suspend the teacher.
“This is a bit of a test case for how these things are handled, that’s why it is important,” said Stephen Evans, chief executive of the NSS.
“Here we have a teacher in fear of his life, in hiding and suspended from his job – yet there is nothing to indicate the materials were not handled correctly.
“We are concerned that the Department for Education doesn’t seem interested enough given that the outcome of this will have national implications. They have washed their hands of it.”
Batley Grammar School sent pupils home early for the Easter holidays and issued an apology after a group of Muslims gathered at the gates to protest. The headmaster announced that the Religious Studies teacher had been suspended while the school looked into what happened.
The 29-year-old teacher and his family went into hiding after reportedly receiving death threats in the wake of the protests.
Mr Evans said that ministers must appreciate the “broader significance” of the case, which had “already sent a damaging message on teachers’ ability to encourage critical thinking on culturally sensitive issues”.
He said that “fundamental principles are at stake”, adding that if the Government failed to show leadership, it would leave the school and trust “vulnerable to pressure from assertive religious voices”.
The academy trust that runs Batley Grammar School announced at the end of March that it would carry out an “independent” investigation into the context in which the cartoon was shown.
The trust, which runs three secondaries and two primaries in West Yorkshire, said it would appoint a panel which would make a series of recommendations about the Religious Studies curriculum.
Announcing the investigation in March, the trust said it would examine “how certain materials, which caused offence, came to be used in a Religious Studies lesson at Batley Grammar”….

Echoing Senator Kennedy of Louisiana about America, to wit, that America was founded by geniuses but is now overwhelmingly governed by idiots, so is it the case with Britain, which island slowly but steadily developed an enormous regard for freedom due to many great people but it is now, as with present America, largely governed by idiots—who are also damn cowards as well.
What a waste. What a monumental waste.

………………
Just hideous. This poor man has not just been unjustly suspended but is also *in fear of his life*. UK authorities are doing nothing to protect him or to prosecute those threatening him.
And don’t these fools realize that while this teacher is a target today, that they as Infidels will eventually be targeted themselves once ravening Muslims gain enough power?
They either are not allowing themselves to think about it, assume it somehow won’t happen, or have already made plans to convert to Islam. Damn cowards, fools, and traitors in any case.
Wellington says
Yep. Definitely seconded.
Those who now govern most Western nations are mediocrities or worse—usually worse.
gravenimage says
Grimly true, Wellington.
Christopher Watson says
Let’s just take a step back for a moment. I was a teacher once, many years ago. I used pictures to illustrate the things I was talking about; pictures of houses, policemen, postmen and magicians. Suddenly we are allowing a bunch of idiots to threaten a teacher for showing a cartoon of a foreign religious leader. No one knows what he looked like; no one knows where he lived; no one knows anything about him at all for sure. My g/g/g/g/g/grandfather was born in 1703. The only sure facts I know about him were his birthdate and the fact that he appeared in court in 1731, charged with selling skins containing too much acid. I probably know more about my ancestor than most people. These morons ought to go back to their medieval cess-pits and allow us to get on with real education: mathematics, history, science; geography and how to think. Do they still teach that in schools?
gravenimage says
Most schools are pretty sad these days, Christopher.

I’d be willing to bet these very same people teach or including lude within the educational curriculum that law enforcement is abusive towards people of color and “immigrants”, that Allah is the Greatest, that the White man stole everything from the Black man and stifled his development. Let’s face it what was the development of the White man and that of the Black man at the inception of slavery? Contrast the development of the two who arose independently. Nothing justifies slavery. Nothing Justifies not allowing for equal opportunity but today we hear the demand for ‘Equity’ meanity the forgone conclusion automatic success by people of color over and above White People for injustices from the past and redistribution of wealth. It sounds like a criminal con job. This exists in both the UK and the US amongst the “sensitive elite Marxists”. Give them 1/4 of the Country to live their dreams until they go bankrupt and come crawling back

I agree, gravenimage and Wellington. It seems that these political “leaders” (what a joke that is) always choose the easiest path. Whatever gives them an easier, more peaceful life ( for a while longer) is the way these politicians will choose to go. So they desert this teacher, throw him to the wolves, because it is all a bit too hard to grow a spine and support him. They are pathetic sell out merchants. Oh, it’s all too hard for them.
James Lincoln says
tim gallagher says,
“It seems that these political “leaders” (what a joke that is) always choose the easiest path.”
Yes, tim.
But it just buys them a little bit more time.
A very short-term solution for a very long-term problem…
tim gallagher says
Yeah, that’s the problem alright, James and gravenimage. It is that expression that is used quite often about merely kicking the can down the road. That is exactly what a lot of our governments do all the time. Mind you, if enough of a country’s population do wake up to Islam’s vile nature, then, in any democracy, they will force the slack politicians to get tough on Islam. In Australia, that still seems to be a long way off. Maybe in the UK as well, not enough of the population have been woken up yet.I look at Hungary and the other Visegrad bloc countries and I keep thinking that, whatever other problems they may have, they have got it right on Islam. I was also thinking that, maybe, with all the trouble that Covid has caused in some countries (including the UK), the politicians are feeling pretty exhausted, probably everyone is, and are craving a peaceful life more than they usually do. It is terrible for this teacher’s life to be pretty much ruined like this.
gravenimage says
Grimly true, Tim and James.
This dhimmitude just emboldens these violent Muslims.
roger Woodhouse says
The real problem is the fact that the ‘truth’cannot be spoken in Britain today for fear of hurting feelings. The masses are being brow beaten by leftwing propaganda which our ‘conservative’government is happy to go along with (till the next general election that is)
tim gallagher says
I think that is right, Roger. In our western societies, people get around walking on egg shells trying to not offend anybody, even when it involves people who do not deserve to be treated well at all. It seems to be about virtue signalling, displaying how wondrously tolerant our societies are. It is pathetic and is not the way to deal with evil people, including the Muslim enemy. And, as you say, a lot of what I hear (in Australia) about the Conservative government in the UK, seems to show that that government is fairly left wing.
Peter Buckley says
“Britain is finished.”
Hilarious.
Still playing to the gallery (of fools) Robert? I understand you have to make these statements from time to time. It keeps them coming back, that’s true enough……
James Lincoln says
Peter,
You have any documented evidence / including citations, based on the UK’s current trajectory, that Britain is NOT finished?
Peter Buckley says
You people are so funny. You think it is up to me to “prove” that something “won’t happen”.
Are you aware of how hilarious you people are?
I put it down to some kind of terminal pessimism- a kind of paranoia.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxqvwkmTNy8
When this teacher is re-instated, I’ll let you know ok?
Other clowns also claim that “Britain is finished” (for completely different reasons).
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7932617/Hugh-Grant-branded-arrogant-patronising-saying-Britain-finished-Brexit.html
So don’t feel insuited. We laugh at them just as much…..
Wellington says
Peter Buckley:
In 1960 or thereabouts a person in the UK could have criticized Islam quite openly, mocked it, etc. and with no repercussions. Can’t happen now can it?
Imagine if Churchill were still around and said what he did about Islam, i.e., “No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.” Or, “Islam in a man is like rabies (hydrophobia) in a dog.” Hell, he’d be detained, questioned intensively, if not arrested.
Does this add up to Britain being finished? Not absolutely sure but it does represent descent in the liberty department and not ascent or at least status quo.
As for the Hugh Grant assessment, it means nothing except that Grant is a fool. Not everyone predicting the same outcome though for entirely different reasons means that all are wrong who predict the same outcome. Surely you can grasp at least this.
pragmatist says
If you don’t think Britain is finished you are sadly deluded, as you are if you think that this teacher will be reinstated. You are like many of my acquaintance – you live in a bubble of ignorant complacency, but if you live long enough you will be in for a very nasty shock. I am too old now for that, but I often say that one reason I would like a few more years is to be able to say to people like you ‘I told you so’.
James Lincoln says
You never answered my question, Peter.
An even simpler question:
Is the UK more or less free than it was 40 years ago due to muslim migration?
1. More.
2. Less.
3. Same.
Again, please include referenced citations…
Peter Buckley says
Wellington:
“In 1960 or thereabouts a person in the UK could have criticized Islam quite openly, mocked it, etc. and with no repercussions. Can’t happen now can it?”
Well, it took me a whole ten seconds to start wondering what planet Wellington lives on
https://twitter.com/TheHarrisSultan/status/1384547845840146438
So I guess Wellington is suffering from what I call terminal pessimism or paranoia. Does he really believe what he says, or has the above condition simply convinced him that it must be true, despite all the facts? You’ll have to ask him….
As for yourself, you bizarrely requested that I provide “documented evidence / including citations” to prove that “we’re NOT finished”. Are you aware of how ridiculous an argument that is? Probably not, since you came back to me. You then kind of half-contradicted yourself by admitting (we) are only finished “if (we) stay on our current trajectory”. That’s a very vague term, but whatever that phrase means, it seems to have convinced you too that we are “finished”. So it looks like you suffer rom the same condition as Wellington.
Claiming that (name your own country) is “finished” simply because there might be (slightly) less freedom of speech, even if that is true, remains a statement of someone who is terminally pessimistic (and probably fatalistic) in their outlook. You could argue easily that social media provides space for MORE criticism of Islam than previously, but you can’t allow yourself even the possibility that that might be true, because you also suffer from “terminal pessimism/ paranoia”.
It is quite laughable that you should even be asking me this question, when the (obvious) question you need to answer is: “Please explain how a small minority of a small (and possibly shrinking-we will find out from the results of the UK census) minority, is going to’ finish’ the UK.”
Please check out the article on Le Pen being cleared of “hate speech”, where I have challenged Robert to re-iterate his statement that “France is finished”…..
Wellington says
Peter Buckley:
First of all, I never requested that you provide “documented evidence/including citations.” Read my 8:42 P.M. post of May 5th. Nowhere did I demand or request you provide anything. Pretty sloppy of you here.
Second, I never asserted Britain was finished. I stated that I am not sure about this.
Third, is it your conviction that Britain is just as free as it was fifty, sixty years ago? Is it not becoming harder and harder to publicly criticize Islam or is it your contention that one can mock and criticize Islam with as much ease and freedom as a half century ago? For instance, do school teachers in the UK have as much leeway to point out all the negatives of Islam as they would have back, say, in 1960?
Fourth, demonstrative of how political correctness, which does indeed stifle liberty, is so prevalent now in the UK and also how criticism of Islam in particular can create all kinds of difficulties, Robert Spencer himself is banned from visiting the UK. Do you think if he had written and said what he has about Islam a half century or so past, assuming here he would have been the same age then that he is now, the British government would have banned him from the UK? Isn’t the banning of Spencer itself highly indicative of descent in the area of liberty?
Fifth, John Cleese of Monty Python fame has said you get killed for comic sketches nowadays that no one would have killed you for back some fifty years ago or even twenty-five years ago. Is Cleese also suffering from delusion or paranoia?
Sixth, what planet do you live on?
gravenimage says
Peter Buckley wrote, ranting about staunch Anti-Jihadist Wellington:
Claiming that (name your own country) is “finished” simply because there might be (slightly) less freedom of speech, even if that is true, remains a statement of someone who is terminally pessimistic (and probably fatalistic) in their outlook.
……………………….
Peter Buckley appears to be fine with less freedom of speech in Britain, and considers this to be just “slight”. Apparently he considers being suspended from his job, threatened with death, and abandoned by the state to be “slight”.
What might he consider serious?
And no–being concerned over the crushing of freedom of speech is not necessarily pessimistic, and is certainly not fatalistic. In fact, one could well consider laughbing at the plight of this poor teacher to be quite fatalistic.
More:
You could argue easily that social media provides space for MORE criticism of Islam than previously, but you can’t allow yourself even the possibility that that might be true, because you also suffer from “terminal pessimism/ paranoia”.
……………………….
Social media like Facebook and Twitter have been deplatforming users for daring to day anything critical about Islam, including about Jihad terror. Is Peter Buckely fine with this?
More:
It is quite laughable that you should even be asking me this question, when the (obvious) question you need to answer is: “Please explain how a small minority of a small (and possibly shrinking-we will find out from the results of the UK census) minority, is going to’ finish’ the UK.”
……………………….
In 2001, the UK Census noted 1.6 million Muslims in Britian. In 2011–just ten years later–that number had mushroomed to over 2.5 milliion. Census estimates in 2018 put the figure at 3.3 million.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_the_United_Kingdom
Muslims have been flooding into Britain since then, but Peter Buckley pretends that it is likely that the number has dropped by about a third in the past three years. That is not optimism, it is delusion.
Then, this “small minority” is able to crush freedom of speech in our schools, openly threaten murder, and push the government to do nothing about it.
And all Peter Buckely can do is laugh at people concerned about this grim state of affairs.
gravenimage says
Lately Peter Buckley has been characterizing anyone concerned over the threat of Jihad terror as “clowns”.
Is he fine with the abandonment of this teacher? Is he fine with this crushing of freedom of speech? Is he fine with his receiving death threats?
Does he consider this indictive of a healthy society?
He does not say. Instead, he just sneers at those who actually oppose this savagery.
Personally, I don’t think that Britain is necessarily finished–not if patriotic Britons finally start speaking out. But it is *definitely* in deep, deep trouble.

I also noticed that you did not attempt any direct answer to any of the queries I posited in my 2:08 P.M. post of today.
You are both sloppy and evasive, though you are superb at puerile insults. Gravenimage is correct. You mostly sneer and not much more. Grow up.
gravenimage says
Note that Peter Buckley *still* won’t say if he considers what has happened to this poor teacher to be concerning–so one has to suppose that he does not.
This is not “optimism”, as he implies, but rather a lack of concern over the eriosion of freedom of speech coupled with tacit approval of Muslim death threats and official inaction over them. Very disturbing.
Peter Buckley says
“Note that Peter Buckley *still* won’t say if he considers what has happened to this poor teacher to be concerning–so one has to suppose that he does not.”
What an an absolute clown you are. The amazing thing is your constant determination to keep demonstrating it to me and others.
Not only are you are a clown.. You now show yourself to be a 100% liar. As you can see, a few weeks back I sent a number of people on JW a link to sign a petition to get this teacher re-instated:

Please explain how this shows that I don’t care.
Did you do anything practical or positve to help the teacher?
What a hypocrite you are.
Do you see what a first-class clown you are now?
Would you like to apologize for lying about me? Failure to do so might mean me raising this issue time and time again in the future.
You have neither the intelligence or wit to see the difference between my criticism of your opinions, based as they are on misinformation or not seeing the bigger picture, and anything I say on Islam. In many ways, talking to you is like talking to a muslim: you cannot see the nose in front of your face. I think “clown” is actually too flattering. Here in the UK, we have another word:

……………………….
The story “UK: Teacher suspended for showing Muhammad cartoon fears he’ll be murdered, says school threw him under the bus” is from March 30. Peter Buckley posted his comment about the petition on *April 21*–*23 days later*.
Even stories that attract a great deal of attention here are seldom commented on for more than four or five days–a week is quite unusual.
Note that the most recent post on that thread save for these by Peter Buckley date from April 1.
No one has replied to Peter Buckley’s posts from late April, because it is quite likely that *no one saw them*.
I certainly didn’t. I do sometimes comment on older stories, but the implication that I must have seen these posts of his on a story that had already fallen into the archives *weeks previously* and am lying about it is just ludicrous. I never saw those posts from him before his linking to them on this thread.
Then, he claims that he is going to mendaciously claim that I had seen these posts again in future–utterly dishonest.
That he did–albeit belatedly–post comments linking to this petition asking this teacher to be reinstated is indeed a good thing.
But he doesn’t explain why he would post urging this in the first place, since he is sneering at the idea that crushing of freedom of speech in the west is a problem to begin with.
As for myself, I have indeed signed that petition, which I found at this story from Newsweek:
“60,000 Sign Petition Demanding Teacher Suspended for Showing Cartoon of Prophet Muhammad to Be Reinstated”
https://www.newsweek.com/60000-sign-petition-demanding-teacher-suspended-showing-cartoon-prophet-muhammad-reinstated-1579589#:~:text=More%20than%2060%2C000%20have%20signed,46%20p.m.%20EDT%20on%20Monday.
Then, I have written the school, as well:
https://www.batleygrammar.co.uk/Contact-Us/
Unsurprisingly, I have heard nothing back–but at least they know that people around the world are concerned.
Will Peter Buckely continue to say that these actions (somehow) make me a hypocrite? It would not surprise…

This is nothing new. The UK government washed it’s hands of the death threats to Salman Rushdie over the “Satanic Verses”.
The cowardly, appeasing rot set in back then.
Jayell says
If a story that appeared here on JW two or three years ago is true, then the UK Government is indeed in the pocket of certain external (middle eastern?) influences and has effectively sold out its citizens to these islamic menaces. Their barefaced negligence of this teacher is just the latest example of the supine, money-grubbing cowardice is also exemplified in the failure of the courts to stand up to the local musilm thugs in Manchester who ordained that all Manchester schoolchildren should have to eat halal-compliant meat, the failure of the police and courts to protect young English girls from muslim predators in places like Rotherham and Telford, etc. and the obscene level of consideration given to the so-called ;Muslim Council of Britain’ in influence British government, etcv. etc…. We are soon going to celebrate the ‘Battle of Britain’ which now looks increasingly like a pointless exercise in our history given that he UK establishment seems to have already given in to Mohammed’s original ‘Third Reich’.
Phil Copson says
“….Ministers are not doing enough to ensure that Batley Multi Academy Trust’s investigation is “unduly influenced” by local imams, according to the National Secular Society (NSS)….”
——————————————————————————————————————–
????? Thanks are due to the National Secular Society for weighing-in on the teacher’s behalf, but Stephen Evans’ opening statement means the exact opposite of what he thinks it does: The problem is not that “Ministers are not doing enough to ensure that (the) investigation is unduly influenced by local imans” but that Ministers are not doing enough to ensure that the investigation is NOT unduly influenced by the local imans.
(Off-topic, but neither is the teacher “in fear of his life” as Mr Evans bizarrely expresses it – how can anybody be “frightened of their life” ? The teacher is either “in fear of death” or “fears for his life”.)
Jayell says
About a couple of years ago I had the dubious pleasure of having to provide the music for the funeral of a well-respected teacher at a Roman Catholic church Ilford, east London. Since the area has turned into something of a muslim ghetto in recent years, it’s not surprising that one of the spoken tributes came from a young muslim female. Strangely, whilst all the other speakers were apparently quite capable of going up to the lectern and saying their piece unaided, this young woman apparently had to be accompanied by the local imam who stood ostentatiously and ‘importantly’ next to her by the lectern as she read her piece. The same (rather large) imam also appeared before the ceremony began, patrolling officiously around inside the church, greeting and speaking to members of the congregation – who seemed to be exclusively English Catholic members of that church – effectively upstaging the priests who were busy with the preparations for the ceremony.
To misquote the regular introduction to ‘Star Trek’, season 1, it appears to be the mission of our ‘friends from the mosques’ to ‘boldly go where they are not invited and where their contribution is completely inappropriate’ – as the governors of Batley Grammar School will no doubt discover.
Wellington says
Thanks for that telling and damning narration, Jayell.
Upsetting and disturbing it is but, alas, not surprising in the least.
