In yet another horrifying instance of the persecution of the minorities in Bangladesh, a 200-strong Muslim mob has reportedly torn down a newspaper office and vandalized and looted Hindu homes in Bangladesh’s Habibgunj district on April 19, 2021.
The Dainik Amar Habiganj office, its editor, and journalists were hounded after the news daily published stories exposing the politicians and leaders of the Awami League and Jubo League, alleging that they had occupied Hindu temple lands and leveling other serious accusations of corruption against them.
Enraged by the explosive content of the reports published in the Dainik Amar Habibjung, a local outfit named “Sachetan Nagarik Samaj” staged a protest against the news daily, demanding to bring the shutters down on it for good. The protest gained strength with members of the Jubo League and Chhatra League joining in large numbers. Led by one Ataur Rahman Selim, the crowd formed human chains and began a procession toward the newspaper office to tear it down. They were armed with sticks and country weapons. However, unable to enter the office, they hurled numerous brickbats at the building, leading to extensive destruction of the property and valuables. According to reports, four or five journalists have sustained serious injuries after being struck by these soaring brickbats.
The violence didn’t conclude without the Muslims targeting Hindu homes in the area. Again, with their improvised weapons, the human chain ransacked and raided 10 to 15 Hindu homes in the area, including the house of the father-in-law of Sushant Das Gupta, the editor and publisher of the Dainik Amar Habibgunj.
The mob broke into these houses, destroyed doors, windows and other furniture, plundered bedrooms, living areas and kitchens, and robbed jewelery, cash, bank cheques, and other expensive articles. The outbreak lasted for two and a half hours without showing any signs of subsiding.
Consequentially, the Rapid Action Battalion, an anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police, had to be deployed in the area to restore normalcy and avoid further violence. An assault case has been filed against the riotous mob by the local police which includes names of 22 accused, including prominent politicians and civil leaders: Muhibur Rahman Mahi, general secretary of the Habiganj district Chhatra League, Farhad Hossain Koli, joint secretary of the municipal Awami League and Fazle Rabbi Russell, office secretary of the municipal Awami League. Others who formed human chains and aided the violence remain unknown. Among these accused, two have been detained and sent to jail by orders of the Habiganj court. Police picked up Jubo League activist Russell Bin and President of the Municipal Sechchasebak League, Mahibur Rahman Sunny, from their respective residences.
Shaken and tormented Hindus have taken to social media to express serious concerns over the incident that underscores the lack of security and assurance for minority communities in the Islamic state. There is also an evident effort to block the flow of information. Barring a few private bloggers, most of the popular media platforms have shied away from covering this severe story of unrest and persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh. This selective show of morality and biased reporting of media outlets is not only alarming, but also emboldens injustice against minorities in Muslim-dominated regions.

I’ll say this once again. Trying to establish a good relationship with this country is futile. This may sound like an exaggeration but this country is exactly the same as Pakistan. The only difference is that Pakistani people and government hate India. But in Bangladesh, the people hate India (and Hindus) but the PM doesn’t since the Indian Army saved her from being murdered during the 1970s. The day she ceases to be the PM of Bangladesh is the day India’s hopes of having a co-operative and peaceful neighbour will be dashed.
It’s the same with Afghanistan. The Indian PM has done so much for Afghanistan and it’s completely useless. So many Muslims in India have anti-Hindu and anti-India sentiments and our government expects established Muslim nations to have pro-india sentiments.

You are spot on! I do think that Sheikh Hasina is the last pro-India leader that Bangladesh will have. As it is, her son waffles on the issue of jihad, if he’s the one who succeeds her. At any rate, I think future Bangladesh leaders will be more like Imran Khan is
I happen to think that Modi decided to be very friendly w/ Bangladesh b’cos a good portion of the Left Bengal electorate is treacherous and consider themselves Bengalis first and then Indians, and have secret fantasies about a united Bengal, w/ no relevance to India. That would include their chief minister and a whole bunch of their ‘intellectuals’. So a part of his support is earned by warming up to them. I do think that once the election results are out in May 2nd, and if his party wins, then they’ll be free to implement the NRC, at which point relations w/ Bangladesh are bound to sour once they’re forced to take back their illegal immigrants
You are right about India’s unrealistic expectations from muslim countries, and it’s bizarre coming from a party like the BJP. I understand that the reason they are befriending Afghanistan is to prevent them from being a backbone to Pakistan that they were during the Taliban regime, but they’re not gonna get their support b’cos Afghanistan and Pakistan are culturally one country, albeit several different ethnic groups. Similarly, while India still seems to support ‘Palestine’ in some key ways, like not moving their embassy to Jerusalem, they’ve not gotten the PA’s support on things like Kashmir, and likely won’t, since the PA has its allegiance to Turkey, which is Pakistan’s ally on this issue
I do think India has done well in supporting the Saudis against the Turks: that has resulted in the Saudis completely cutting off Pakistan. But the Saudis did turn on India in oil pricing, so India should keep its supply options from the US and Russia very strong

Like two loaded pistols pointed to the head of India from both sides… Pak and Bangla.. What more does a Khafir country want?? What an enviable position to be in?

Seems Bangladesh is a other Pakistan just a hell for non Muslim this is shocking it’s a progrom against Hindus but nothing about this on the mainstream we will only hear about the uighars Ukraine but nothing about persecution of non Muslims
Infidel says
You’re right: Bangladesh is little more than another Pakistan, and for India, which doesn’t recognize it as an adversary b’cos of the gratitude of their prime minister, it’s even more lethal, as Mohini pointed out above
serialthinker2003 says
no wonders why such atrocities are committed without punishment or even hearing since America is having a “diplomacy war” against Al-Qaida and Taliban, And this is really one of the last nails in the coffin of humanity
what do you expect!?

Actually, the US destroyed the Islamic State as a territorial entity. How is this a bad thning?

YES, Biden-Harris want to bring these Islamic/Muslim migrants to your neighborhood. WOW! isn’t that going to be wonderful, they will bring the cost of housing down in your area of town, crime will soar, you and I will get to show our charitable side by supporting them for life and our daughters and sons won’t be safe out of the house. Sounds like utopia for us. How sad it is that these Islamic/muslim migrants won’t get to bring these benefits to the gated communities of the do-gooders and political leaders.
But they love them because they don’t have to deal or live with them.
infidel says
I’ve never heard of PM Modi or any1 in his so called pro-Hindu Govt make even a token protests at these kinds of incidents. The Hindus of Bangladesh are now left high and dry like their brothers in Kashmir and Sindh… The cowardice that Hindus show is sickening.
