Love Distilled #3

Love in Secrets

Rate this book
Master distiller, Jake Dyer, is doing everything he can to keep his family-run gin distillery in business. Working seven days a week to maintain production volumes while overseeing a complex renovation of the distillery keeps him busy. There is no room for anything else in his life, especially not Cassie Cunnigham, his childhood friend, and daughter of the owner of the construction company completing the renovation.

Cassie Cunnigham hates leaving her project management job with a New York construction firm to return to Denver after a decade away. But when Jake Dyer calls to tell her about her father's accident, she has no choice but to go home for six weeks to run his small construction firm in his absence. With her New York boss threatening to fire her if she doesn't return, and her father pleading with her to stay, Cassie feels as though the men in her life are taking decisions out of her hands.

All except Jake, who is no longer the gangly-teen she left behind. And it doesn’t help that Jake can't keep his eyes, or hands, off her, either. When friendly reunions turn heated in secret, Jake and Cassie convince themselves that friends-with-benefits sounds like a whole lot of fun.

But as walls go up in the distillery and refuse to come down from around Cassie’s heart, Jake wonders if he and the woman he’s falling in love with will ever add up to anything more.

Four-time RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole, is a contemporary romantic suspense / contemporary romance author (represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency) who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

Being back in one of Scarlett Cole’s worlds is reader bliss! My love for her words holds no bounds. She has incredible talent, and she pours every drop of it in every story she weaves. I feel connected to her stories when I read them and the circumstances surrounding the characters are always so organically developed that it sometimes feels like I’m not even reading fiction.

Cassie and Jake, two peas in a pod as I like to think of them, both made me swoon like a lunatic. Their story made me swoon and their character filled my heart with joy.

Cassie, despite facing a man-centric profession, fights to be the best and is always striving for more, for better, for the best. Scarlett developed and incredible character with realistic and relatable objectives and circumstances with Cassie and paired her with a hardworking, loyal, big-hearted man who would go to the ends of the earth for someone her loved. We met Jake back in the beginning of the series and have had small snippets of his character here and there and I was excited to read about him. His story did not disappoint. Overflowing with both heart and hope, this friends to more journey had my eyes leaking quite a few times, and not always because of angst!! Happiness and joy were at the core of this story and I felt that in every interaction between Jake and Cassie.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read every story Scarlett has written for publication so I am confident in letting you know that no matter where you start, if you happen to be a new-to-her reader reading this review, you will always get a story that comes from the heart. The circumstances in all her stories are realistic, relatable, and respectfully portrayed. She’s an author who makes sure to get her subject right. The worlds that she creates could easily be ones that you and I live in and she makes sure to develop not just the storyline but also her characters organically. I cannot sing this woman’s praises louder so GO DO THE THING!

Love in Secrets is the third book in the series. It's a steamy and smart friends to lovers romance.
Jake and Cassie have known each other since childhood, they grew up together with Jake's sisters and Cassie's brother as well. Now they are adults passionate about their work who live in different cities.
Cassie lives in New York and works for a large construction company. She is extremely talented at her job, very efficient and she does not count her hours. But the construction industry is a man's world and it is difficult for a woman to be taken seriously. I loved this side of the story, the author shows us the difficulties that women encounter when they want to succeed in a professional environment where there are almost only men.
Even if you are the most qualified, the most talented, the most hardworking, you will still be confronted with prejudice and sexism. Cassie must face this painful reality and must fight against this injustice.
Cassie's father was in an accident and she must return to her hometown and run his business. Since her father married her horrible mother-in-law, she hardly sees him, but when he needs her, she is there. Here again, we are shown a very existing reality. Family problems due to remarriage, to a new person in the family who breaks ties and makes members move away.
Jake works very hard for the family business. He has an incredible gift for making Gin, he is always there to support his sisters, he fights with them to redress the complicated financial situation of the company. For the past year, his life has revolved around his work. Like Cassie, he is passionate. We have known Jake since book 1, he is exceptionally protective, loyal, generous and hardworking. He deserved to take time for himself and to find love, happiness in his personal life.
Scarlett Cole shows us brilliantly that it is important to have a job that you are passionate about but that it is just as important to have a private life that makes you happy. The two are not mutually exclusive and are essential.
You can have everything, you have to know how to fight for what you want and yes ... sometimes for a woman it's more complicated but you must not give up your dreams because of narrow-minded people.
Jake and Cassie have always been friends but their mutual attraction is impossible to deny, so they decide to give each other a chance even though they know their couple's future is in jeopardy since they live in two different cities. Jake is the one of the two who believes in their story the most, he knows from the start that what he feels for her is strong and unique. I liked the fact that they don't fight their feelings, they recognize them.
When the hour of separation arrives, the author does not offer us banalities where the woman gives up everything for her man. Our two heroes have dreams and passions, they both find compromises. From the beginning to the end of the book, Jake is extraordinary, he fights on all fronts, he is there for all the people he loves, he is respectful of Cassie's feelings and needs, he does not impose his wills ... A man who proves that respect is very manly! Cassie is a modern woman who juggles private and professional life, who fights against sexism and nepotism but who also knows how to recognize when a lovable man is perfect for her.
Scarlett Cole intelligently approaches important problems of our modern society and tells us a beautiful love story with some hot scenes. And what a pleasure to have more of Jake's sisters and their men !

5 stars!

The third and final book in the Love, Distilled series, and my favorite of the three, this is a fun, heartfelt and chemistry-filled friends-to-lovers romance that is sweet, sexy, and blessedly functional, and I absolutely loved it!

Jake Dyer is the mater distiller at his family’s gin distillery in Denver. He works constantly to keep production running to help get the company out of financial trouble, and together with his sisters, they are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, knowing that things will definitely be easier once renovations to the distillery are finished and they can increase their capacity.

Cassie is a project manager with a construction firm in New York City, and she lives for her work. She’s passionate about making a difference to the footprint of the city, and thrives on bringing order to the chaos of her projects.

Jake and Cassie grew up together. Their fathers are best friends, and Jake and his siblings were the best of friends with Cassie and her brother, and they share a lot of wonderful memories and experiences. It’s Cassie’s father that is overseeing the renovations at the distillery, and when he is injured in an accident, Cassie rushes home to see him, and ends up staying to take over his construction business while he is out of action. And while she’s in town, she moves in with her old friend, Jake.

From the first moment we see Jake and Cassie together, sparks are flying! Their friendship up until this point has been strictly platonic, but it’s been years since they’ve seen each other, and the attraction is pretty much instant. It’s all very civil and friendly for a little while, but the chemistry is sizzling, until neither of them are able to hide what they want anymore, and the tipping point becomes unavoidable.

“You know, one day you’ll have to let me know how I can pay you back for all this,” she said, putting her hard hart on.
Jake reached forward and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I already thought of a way.”
… “Yeah, what’s that?”
He leaned in close, so close she could feel his breath against her cheek. “Next time you get off in my spare bed, use my name. Not God’s.”

The sexual tension is insane, and I love the way this romance plays out! They don’t hide from anything that’s happening between them, they talk it through, they flirt and banter, and they agree to explore their mad lust for each other, even knowing that whatever they have together can only be short-lived.

“You aren’t quick fuck material to me. And I know you want to label this, but I don’t want to reduce this to the lowest common denominator of sex that means absolutely nothing when we wake up with each other the next morning. While that kind of sex has its place, it doesn’t belong between us.”

It’s all kinds of hot, and though they were aiming for friends with benefits, they immediately recognise the significance of the connection that they share, so the boundaries that they planned to keep in place are quickly squashed, and I was feeling all of that intensity with them!

He put his forehead to hers. “This is going to change everything, isn’t it?”
“It already has.”

It’s a beautifully unfolding love story. It’s easy and natural, fun and romantic, and I loved every moment of Jake and Cassie together. Their bond as friends forms a wonderful basis for their relationship, and they maintain that openness and honesty, now with a heavy dose of sexy times and emotion as they fall hard for each other, and it’s just gorgeous.

“This might be everything, and yet we still won’t be able to find a way to make it work. But I think the heartbreak is worth the risk.”

But Cassie is under pressure from her boss to return to New York, and if she wants to continue progressing her career, she knows that’s where she needs to be. Jake’s life (and his passion) is in Denver, continuing his father’s legacy and keeping the family business alive. They know their time together is limited, but neither of them are ready to let go. It’s heartwrenching for them, and there’s a lot they need to work through to work out what their future looks like, and it’s so beautifully written, and I was feeling everything along with them as they figure it all out.

“I gave you my heart, Cassie. Irrevocably, I fear. Everything has changed for me.”

I loved getting to know Cassie. She’s a great character, and her journey in this book is interesting and really well written. And Jake stole my heart as the funny, sweet, loyal and caring man who bravely and honestly follows his heart. The characters from the first two books in the series all appear, and I particularly loved seeing the dynamics between the boys. They have such a great relationship, and I love how Connor and Anders have Jake’s back. And, of course, his relationships with his sisters is beautiful. This group is fantastic, and I loved the scenes with them all together.

This is such a gorgeous story. Written with heat, humour, and a whole lot of feels, it’s a beautiful friends-to-lovers romance that had me smiling, swooning, and feeling it all. I loved it!

The hero was sweet and I liked how committed and competent the heroine was but they had such zero chemistry that the entire romance just felt meh to me.

Love In Secrets is another winner in the Love Distilled series! I absolutely loved both Jake and Cassie. So much. I especially loved that they had known each other their whole life, but they'd never seen each other as romantic material for themselves in the past. Then, after an accident brought Cassie back home to Morrison from New York for a time, suddenly, there were sparks. And oh my, Ms. Cole sure does know how to make sparks :D

Another thing I adored was that Cassie was in a career where women are not all that common. As an engineer working on high rises in New York, she not only had to work hard like the guys did, she had to always be better and smarter than them. And unfortunately for her, sometimes, nepotism got in the way of her overall goals. Of course, sometimes, the fact that she was a woman got in the way, too. And I could SO relate to that.

At the same time, Cassie really wanted to work on her career, and that's something that I respected so much. She fell hard for Jake while she was home, but she still didn't want to give up on her dream. And that takes a very strong woman - and it's uncanny how often a choice has to be made, and it's sort of expected that the woman should move for love. That was not the case here, and I loved the story even more for that.

Of course, there were sightings of Jake's siblings and their significant others, too, which was also lovely and made me a very happy reader.

Talk about a way to grab hold of my attention from the beginning because that first chapter was one hell of a doozy, lemme tell you, but it kept me turning the pages to see how everything would work out between Jake and Maddie. For the most part, this book had me all kinds of swoony and twitterpatted, but I gotta be honest and my frustration with certain situations had me growling ~ even up to almost the very end. But, overall, it was a great read.

I ADORED Jake. OMG. This man. Talented, sweet, hard working, charming and just a really, really good man. It didn’t take long for me to fall for the man. He wasn’t perfect, but there was a honesty in all he did that made it hard not to love him. Maddie is a force. She has her future set out in front of her and she will do what it takes to achieve it. I’ll admit that as much as I admired her, I did want to reach through the Kindle and shake her a time or two, even if I did understand where she was coming from. But, when everything was said and done, I loved the woman.

Their journey to their HEA was a journey, a good one, a fun one and a smexy one, but a journey as they not only dealt with all the pressures the world put on them as individuals, but also as a couple who may or may not have a future. The chemistry between them was intense from the start and I loved how they fell into being each other's safe place to land, even before things got physical. As for the physical...the build up was a lot fun, there were definitely some great moments between them that had me chuckling, and once they got together? Well...lets just say it was HAWT. The bumps in their road were numerous and frustrating at times, but I loved how everything ended up for them.

This was a great read. There are some situations that raise your hackles while reading, but I wouldn’t put them into the ‘trigger’ category, just know that you may or may not end up tossing your ereader against the wall or into the freezer. But outside of that, I loved catching up with Emerson and Conner & Olivia and Anders and how they all banded together behind Jake and even Cassie when it was needed. I know that this is the last book in the series, but I’m crossing my toes that we’ll get to catch up with them in way or another and see how everything is going with their lives.

Love in Secrets is book #3 in Scarlett Cole’s Love Distilled series. It can be read standalone but I recommend reading the previous two books in the series for the best reading experience. Jake Dyer is a master distiller for the Dyer family’s gin distillery. He is confident, smart and sexy. He is protective over his sisters and loves his job.

Cassie is a hard working, strong woman, working in a mans world, for her fathers construction company. She can hold her own and I loved this about her.

This was such a great friends to lovers story. Jake and Cassie have known each other since they were children. They are passionate about their jobs and had amazing chemistry together. There are some bumps along the way with the fact that they live in different cities but they figure it out together. They make compromises where they need to and they mutually respect each others goals and dreams without the drama we sometimes see in romance novels. This was refreshing.

I love Scarlett Cole’s writing. This series has been a top favourite and I have loved every moment with the Dyer family. The part of this story that really resonated with me is the importance of balancing a healthy work and home life. Scarlett outlines that is is possible to have both and Jake and Cassie’s passion for their work and each other is really beautiful.

Scarlett is a new to me author, but one I will be reading again.

I loved Cassie & Jake’s story.
It was sweet, saucy, fun, and—at times—sad.

Her passion for her work, her loyalty, her drive & strong will were all attributes that I liked about Cass. Her dismissal of gender stereotypes, her fire for equality were admirable.
Jake was respectful, loving, charming and an all around good guy. His heart is so big.

If friends to lovers is your thing, this is definitely one you want to pick up.

Read.This.Book. You will fall in love with Jake; we all have. Just look at the cover! Have not read the previous two? Not a problem, go back when you can. They all stand alone but best read in order. The strength and bond the siblings have, make it worth your time.

Cassie has her heart and head in conflict over what to do. The push-pull relationship between Cassie and Jake had me turning the pages. At the same time, I respect acknowledging real life struggles, being overworked, stressed, family drama, and gender discrimination in the workplace.

It was AMAZING! I can't believe Ms. Cole finished the series, I would love an update with all 3 couples a few years down the way.

This story was a role reversal and friends to lovers romance. Cassie has a job in a male dominated field: construction. Her boss treats her differently then her male colleagues and besides this, her family expects her to be the one to drop everything and help out in an emergency. And she does! She also loses her job because of it. Our hero, Jake, is the only one who doesn't try to impose his will on her and I loved that! He's understanding, supporting and

The characters from books 1 and 2 have pretty big roles in the book and I love that they were in it and they were organically part of the story, not just thrown in as fan service. The scene with Jake, Connor and Andres was one of my favorites from the whole book btw.

I loved the book and I am a faithful Scarlett Cole fan. I can't wait to read the next book!

There is no better way to end a triology like this. WOW! I started the book the minute it laded on my kindle and I read it in one night. I couldn't put it down. Love In Secrets (Love Distilled, #3) by Scarlett Cole reminded me why I fell in love with her style. It is full of emotions and her writing style is on point. I had to sit down a minute, just to remind me where I am..... Because you get the feeling of living in the story. You just have to feel everything the characters feel. With a story from Scarlett Cole, you never get disappointed.

I knew right from the beginning, that Scarlett Cole had something in mind, while she wrote Jake as a side character. After all... he too deserves hapiness and love in his life, like his sisters. So I was really excited for his story. Then there is Cassie. What a strong woman, who knows what she wants..... Does she?! Well, as a feminist I really loved it how she worked all the mans in her life to make her dream come true. She is so clever and she burns for her job... but she also burns for Jake.

What else is there to say, except that I cried.... again..... Well, crying is guaranteed, when you read storys from Scarlett Cole. There are just perfect in every way. I'm so excited for her new hot steamy rock star series.

Thank You Scarlett Cole for all your amazing storys that you share with us!

Scarlett Cole brings the Love Distilled series to a close on a very high note with Love In Secrets. We’ve gotten to know the Dyer siblings during this series and watch the two women fall in love while their brother toils away 7 days a week to keep the distillery moving. He does it for his family, as tribute to his dad, and to make sure he secures their future, but when a freak accident brings home his sister’s best friend, he suddenly realizes he wants more in his life than work.

You’ll let me just say Jake Dyer is a good guy hero and I flat out loved him. He’s one of those people that always puts others first and does the right thing and we’ve seen him throughout this series not only working hard but being there to rally behind his sisters when they need it and to welcome their men into the fold. It’s no wonder when Cassie returns to Colorado to take care of things while her dad heals that he begins to realize how small his life has become. Cassie makes him remember the carefree times they had as kids and teens and he can’t deny his intense attraction to the woman she’s become. I loved how intuitive Jake was which wasn’t all the surprising given what we’ve seen of him in the previous books, but he understood Cassie’s drive, her willingness to make her dreams come true, and the love she has for her work.

Just when the rug is pulled out of her by her boss in New York City, Cassie Cunningham must return to Colorado to be there for her dad. While they haven’t been all that close since his marriage to her stepmom, his condition is serious enough that she knows she’ll have to step in to help out at his construction company. When Jake picks her up she can’t believe how much he’s changed over the years or the fact that he makes her body hum. She dismisses it as being tired and stresses, but staying in his home she soon realizes she can’t deny the attraction.

I absolutely loved these two together, they were similar enough to have things in common that no one else seemed to understand yet different enough to keep things interesting. The fact they’d been friends for most of their lives, gave them a foundation on which to build and it was easy to see them falling for one another with each passing day even though they knew she would be returning to New York within a month.

There were quite a few touching and emotional moments in this book including one between Jake and his sisters Ev and Liv that left me a bit teary eyed. It also became quite clear how close Jake had become with Connor and Anders when they helped him through a pretty difficult time. It’s scenes like this that make a good romance a great story.

Love in Secrets is a well written, emotional, and sexy story that I found impossible to put down and ends this series on a very high note.

Love in Secrets is book three of the Love Distilled Series and focuses on Jake Dyer and Cassie Cunningham. This is a friends to lovers romance. The story is original with a well developed plot and you can appreciate the authors use of real life problems people face; such as family drama, being overworked and stressed, sexism and gender discrimination in the workplace, making personal sacrifices, ETC.

Jake is a hard worker, supportive, caring and selfless. He'd made many sacrifices to help keep the family business afloat and to ensure his sister's happiness, putting his own happiness on hold. I also loved how close to his sister's he was and the bond he created with his future brother in-laws. They're the definition of tight knit family.

Cassie is ambitious, driven, independent, and a lot of times stubborn. She seemed to let pride get the best of her. Sometimes she was frustrating and I just wanted to shake some sense into her. She had a lot of personal expectations that at times seemed unreasonable for herself, but lucky for her she has a patient and passionate man who would go to the ends of the earth for her.

Relationships are hard to navigate, but living in the moment can only last so long. They have to reevaluate the present and determine their wants and needs for their futures. They have to steer through change, family drama, work issues, and so much more. They are very supportive of each other and once they work through these hurdles there's no doubt they will live a lifetime of happiness.

I was curious about Cassie and her dad's relationship. I felt it was left unsettled and I would have liked to see how they navigated their relationship and addressed past issues. Also, what happened to Carter? We never see or hear about him again. Did he ever come to help out? This seemed to be the last book in the series, but maybe there are plans for him in the future?

Romantic love between old friends can be hard to transition to but Scarlett Cole made it seem like the easiest thing in the world in Love in Secrets. Jake and Cassie knew the friendship they had as children had changed after not seeing each other for a number of years. The once easy going camaraderie of people who grew up together was now infused with an intense physical attraction that set them off on an unavoidable path to owning each other's hearts. What always stands out with this author is how she goes about addressing her characters' attraction. This story carried on Ms. Cole's tradition of thoughtful interactions displaying feelings in a mature and caring way yet at the same time keeping readers experiencing all the highs and lows of love with liberal doses of drama.

Jake and Cassie's relationship was full of moments of mutual understanding and respect as well as including all the fun of people who knew how to tease each other without misunderstandings. The ease of their connection was wonderful to watch. Jake's confidence was extremely appealing and well placed, making him the perfect partner for a woman like Cassie who made her career in a male dominated world. His lack of intimidation and insecurity where Cassie's ambitions laid, without diminishing his own strengths, was inspiring. There were lots of emotional moments in this work that moved it quickly.

Ms. Cole has such a deep devotion to her portrayals, there is never any wavering in her commitment to telling their stories and finding their HEA's no matter how difficult the road to finding them is. This author's sensitivity to her characters issues and her intuitive writing leads to some of the most interesting romances out there. Love in Secrets adds another reason why reading Scarlett Cole romances is a must!

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

Love in Secrets is a friends to lovers romance and the third book in the Love Distilled series by Scarlett Cole.

This book is about Jake Dyer and Cassie Cunnigham. They have known each other since they were kids. Cassie is now a successful project manager at a well known construction firm in New York. She was tied to two projects when her father had an accident. She is going back to Denver to be there for her father. Which also means she is helping out his firm for a few weeks. She is staying with Jake who is also super busy with the family gin distillery. But still he always takes time to be there for Cassie. They start to see each other in a totally different light and they can’t fight the attraction they have towards each other for long.

This was such an amazing book Scarlett wrote!! I must admit I haven’t read the other two books in the series but now I am super curious about the siblings and how they found their love. This book is a slow burn and which keeps you on the edge! It has everything a good romance story needs! Jake is like the sweetest guy EVER! He literally does everything for Cassie and it makes you swoon so hard!
Somehow I would have loved to read more about the relationship of Cassie and her dad and also about her brother Carter. Such an amazing read which you don’t want to miss out!

Okay Mrs. Cole… I mean geez. Your talented at making me fall in love and making me cry. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Jake as a leading man but boy oh boy did he NOT disappoint. This book was so different because it really reversed the roles of the relationship and that is what makes you fall for Jake. I loved the friendship and family from this series but in this story I felt the connection to his sisters so much. I found myself crying because I have two older brothers and it was written in such a way that I felt everything the characters did.
Cassie was such an inspiring and awesome female heroine. She was determined and worked hard and I think every woman has had those jobs where you have to work even harder to barely be given respect. I loved her stories progression and her progression. It was awesome and inspiring and totally relatable.
One thing I truly loved was seeing our previous characters happy and genuinely themselves and it made this last book of the series incredibly enjoyable. Seeing all of them and their interactions was everything. I the bromance with Connor, Anders and Jake was EVERYTHING I NEEDED.
Easily 5 stars! Scarlett Cole writes relatable characters, relatable romance but in a way that still feels all swoony and fairytale-ish. I absolutely loved this series!!

What a fantastic last book in this even better series!!
All three books can be read as stand-alones, but personally I prefer to read in order!

This book is about Jack, the distiller, the rock who keeps the company running. Even tho Em is called the glue.
And Cass. Childhood friend. Awesome constructor. But in NY! Due to an accident she’s needed at home, so she travels back to Denver to help out her dad and his firm. Living together with her old best friend Jack, they do realize that their feelings are not only friendly anymore.
But what happens when Cass needs to go back to NY??

What an emotional book altogether! I must admit I shed a tear or two, but loved every minute of this book.

I kindly received an arc and voluntarily left a review

Love in Secrets confirmed how fond I’ve grown of the Dyer siblings. I have absolutely loved reading each of their stories and I knew during a certain scene in this book, when I couldn’t hold back my tears, that Em, Liv and Jake have cemented themselves permanently in my heart.

All three books in this series have been fantastic reads. It has been wonderful getting to know the siblings and witnessing their journeys through heartache, love, health issues and any difficulties they faced. Em, Liv and Jake have not only proven what an incredible team they make, but also that their sibling bonds are unbreakable. Love in Secrets is Jake’s story, and I must warn you that this guy will steal your heart.

It truly was a pleasure to learn more about Jake. He gives 110% of his time and effort to the distillery he runs with his sisters, and I loved seeing more of his caring side and how willing he is to make personal sacrifices for those he loves. He is my perfect man, and Cassie is a very lucky lady indeed to have won his heart.

I absolutely adore Cassie. I wish I was half the person she reveals herself to be. Her strength and determination are two of the qualities I admire about her. I loved watching her in action at work, and I thought the author did a fabulous job of showing the struggles she faces as a woman in a predominantly male dominated career.

There is so much I loved about this story. I adored witnessing Jake and Cassie together. Their chemistry is off the charts and they have a fabulous connection that many would be jealous of. I enjoyed the times that Jake, his sisters and their partners spent together, as it was lovely to catch up with Em & Connor and Liv & Anders and see them all together as a family unit too. I loved the emotions that this story brought out in me, and I must admit that being unable to anticipate how Jake and Cassie’s journey was going to unfold had me unable to put my kindle down until I reached the conclusion.

I am sad that my time with the Dyer family has ended. Love in Secrets is the perfect closure to this must-read series. All three books can be read as standalones but I do recommend that you read them in release order, and I am certain that you’ll enjoy reading each individual story just as much as I have.

One more thing..... that cover pic 🔥 I must say it was lovely to have the perfect visual of Jake whist reading his story 😉

As usual, I couldn’t wait to read this new Scarlett Cole’s book, even more since I loved the previous book in the series “Love in Moments” and really wanted to find more about Jake. I found him quite intriguing since the first book. We also focus on Cassie, a Dyer’s childhood friend.
Jake is the only boy of the Dyers siblings and the master distiller of the family distillery. He has big responsibilities and work seven days a week to try to keep the production going while keeping an eye on the distillery renovations. He doesn’t have time for anything else. Especially not Cassie. She is back in Denver after ten years of being away to take over her dad’s construction company while he’s healing after an accident. But her boss in New York wants her back as soon as possible or he’ll fired her while her dad wants her to stay in Denver and work with him. Cassie has enough of men in her life wanting to make decisions for her. So, when her friendship with Jake catches fire, they both think that being friends with benefits is a good idea and would help them forget their trouble. Though when Jake starts falling for Cassie he can’t help but wonder if they could have more or if Cassie’s walls would never fall…
I really liked this third book. The characters are quite interesting, and we finally find more about Jake and how he feels about everything his family had been through. I really like him. He’s focus, loyal and generous to a fault. He often put other people needs and dreams before his own and sometimes it can be a problem… I liked Cassie as well. She is strong and determined and she really wants to make a place for herself in the manly world of construction. And that’s not easy. I really enjoyed how she stands her ground and doesn’t let men rule her life. Though sometimes she is so stubborn she refused to listen to people and can be a bit selfish. I understand where she is coming from but sometimes her decisions can hurt people she is close too without letting them a choice in the matter…
However, I found her relationship with Jake strong and interesting. They are both workaholics, but they still have a strong and unexpected bond. There are very emotional moments between them as well as fun and sexy times.
I had a great time reading this book which is the perfect ending for the “Love Distilled” series. I loved this series. Maybe not as much as “Second Circle Tattoos” and “Preload” because I think it’s not as intense as those and I was quite used to that when I was reading Scarlett Cole’s books but it’s still a great series that I strongly recommend. Now I can’t wait to read Scarlett Cole’s next series which is going to be published in August 2021!

4.5 Stars
Jake can't believe that it has been over a year since him dad died. The distillery is finally starting to get back on track but it has had him working everyday to get production caught up. Construction has started on the new distillery although it has fallen a little behind. Jake is tired and can't wait for the extra stills to help production. After taking to Chris the contractor about the timeline of the new distillery, Chris leaves for the day. Jake is halted in his tracks when he hears the crunching of metal on metal. Someone has t-boned Chris' car. Jake rushes to the scene. It doesn't look good.

Cassie receives an unexpected phone call from Jake, the brother of one of her best friends from Denver. Bad news that her father has been in a car accident. He was not sure how bad it was but recommend get home as soon as possible. She leaves New York without even talking to her boss, desperate to find out if her dad is ok. Jake picks her up from the airport and things are different the she remembers. Jake is not just her friends little brother anymore. He is a very good looking man and Cassie can't figure out why she is drawn to him so much.

Jake offers for Cassie to stay with him while in town. Her dad needs surgery but he will be ok. When her dad asks her to stay and help fix some scheduling problems with his construction company she is reluctant. She left Denver to make a name for herself by building skyscrapers and large office buildings. She had worked so hard to get to where she was in her career and this would affect her job. But she could not just leave her dad when he needed her.

Working at her dad's company was more rewarding than she thought as was living with Jake. Things between them keep progressing bit should they pursue this when they both know she will be going back to New York?

I have read all 3 books in this series. Very well written. Keeps your attention. Great story lines.

Love Distilled has been an amazing series so far. Each book has had its own wonderful deep strong storyline and none more so than Love in Secrets. Jake and Cassie's relationship is a complex one, not one made by them, but by the circumstance of their past that now make up their present. Scarlett Cole has done a brilliant job of honing in on how the past can impact the future.

From the moment her father remarried when Cassie was a teenager, her fate was sealed, and the more her dad took his wife's side the more Cassie's mind was made up to move away from home. Although Cassie followed in her father's footsteps working in construction, she does that for a large corporate New York Firm. However, being only one of a few women working in a male-dominated work sector, Cassie's boss is making it increasingly difficult for her to get the recognition that she deserves. But what alternative does Cassie have? she is adamant that returning home is not an option.

One call from Cassies best friend's brother and childhood friend Jake, and it is time, at least for a while, to return home. With the sudden death of his dad last year Jake and his sisters have taken over the family Gin Distillery and that has become his life, He works long hours, and doesn't have much time for a social life, but Jake, for the most part, loves his life.

Two people both dealing with family issues, Jake out of love and Cassie out of obligation are thrown together, both now all grown up, friendship feelings are turning into something more, but Cassie is determined to return to NY as soon as possible, she still has deep-rooted hurts and painful memories of her childhood one's that even Jake can't fully take away. As the time draws nearer for her to leave, sacrifices will need to be made that will change everyone's lives.

I cannot recommend Love In Secrets highly enough!

Just when I think I can't love a series any more, Scarlett Cole introduces me to Jake freaking Dyer!

I always love this author's heroes, but Jake has claimed a piece of my heart. He's embedded in there and I'm never letting go of him.

Honestly, I'm getting kind of tired of the asshole hero. The guy who thinks of no one but himself. Jake is a breath of fresh air. He's dedicated to his legacy as a master distiller at his family owned business, and he's determined to be a success even if he has no social life to speak of. He's a family man, through and through. The best brother to his sisters, but he also dreams of having a family of his own one day. He has the kindest soul, and is super supportive of the people he loves. He's also down right sexy, and his dirty talk game is strong.

Then there's Cassie. Who I also adore. She's in New York, living her dream as a project manager with a construction firm. But it's a dog eat dog world out there, especially for females in that industry. She's tired of the men in her life making all the big decisions for her. Her boss is looking for anyway to screw her over, and her father expects her to come back and work for him.

No one seems to care what she wants.

Except Jake. He sees her. Even though deep down he wants her to choose him. Choose them.

I won't go into any details because I don't want to spoil it for anyone else, so I'll just say this...Love In Secrets is the perfect conclusion to this series. It has everything I enjoy in a romance. Great characters. All the feels your heart can take. There were times that I was choked with emotion, it was so brilliantly written. You could feel everything the characters were feeling, you don't just read it. And the steam...good lord the steam. There's plenty.

This story can be read as a stand-alone, but I would highly recommend you read the other books first so you are well acquainted with the other characters. I promise you won't be disappointed.

This is a Friends-to-Lovers romance about Cassie & Jake, who grew up together and have now reunited as adults. When an accident takes Cassie's father out of commission for a time, she must come home to care for him and keep her dad's business afloat, but she can’t even do that until she steps in to get it back on track! And while the gangly & awkward guy she left years ago is still a close friend and provides that feeling of “home,” the hot man he has become is stirring other feelings that are definitely not friendly.

What I Liked:
-Cassie is a strong (almost bullheadedly stubborn!) woman, fighting her way in the predominantly male career world of construction, but she is d@mn good at what she does.
-Jake is also career-driven, but also sweet & caring & everything a woman would want in a guy
-The chemistry between these two sparks almost immediately, though it takes a while for them to get *there* and the journey is just as good as the destination
-SWEET JUSTICE (that’s all I can say since I’m trying to keep this spoiler-free)

What I Didn’t Like (fair warning, some of these things you aren’t SUPPOSED to like!):
-The men in NYC are misogynistic and manipulative and just awful
-The situation in NYC is just as awful—why would anyone want to return to that??
-Poor Cassie has one awful stepmother

Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall, I really enjoyed the story! I took one star off the perfect score for a couple reasons: I wanted to know more about how Cassie’s relationship with her dad resolves, I was left wondering about her brother Carter, her awful stepmother is a bit two-dimensional, and finally, I wasn’t able to write this review until a full week after finishing it, and though I remembered reading it, I could remember the story and had to refresh my memory with synopses and other reviews. If you liked this series, you’ll love this book! If I find time, I’ll go back to read the rest!

A friends-to-lover storyline is my go-to lately. Jake and Cassie do not disappoint. This story has so many elements I love. Jake is all heart and about family. Cassie is amazing. I keep routing for her and her attempts at breaking the glass ceiling. She is tacking a male dominated industry with dedicated and intelligence. GOOO GIRL!

Plan for a read with unique events and even some gender role reversal. In the end everyone gains clarity and sees what is truly important. Ugh bumps and bruises happen along the way. My heart breaks a bit for Cassie. As someone that has experienced her own disappointment with her father, well I felt some kindred emotions. It is confusing when it feels as if a parent doesn’t pick you or defend you.

Jake’s family is the opposite of Cassie's. They have experienced loss and try to hold onto each other tighter. LOVE IT!

Sooo Jake and Cassie spice up the page in a nummy kind of way. SEXY! The whole time limit thing keeps me in knots cause I don’t want Cassie to leave. Did I mention her boss is an “a” hole. Well he is and she deserves better. She gets a little retribution. Fist bump girl.

This ending has a realism to it that feels enlightened. One woman can not tackle generation’s of suppression but it was a start. Wink. With Jake by her side she kept her identity but still has an opportunity to go places in a sexist world. Did I mention “GO GIRL,”? Let me say it again.

Ugh I want to discuss this book in detail. I won’t cause you need to read it spoiler free. Yikes. This book is romance at its finest but then even more. Eek. So Good!

Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO
