Exactly the same scenario staring the Australians in their faces. They follow U.S. dictates vilifying China and hurting their own economy as a result, believing the U.S. will pull their butts from the fire when the proverbial hits the fan. BUT, there is no obligation whatever, on the Americans to do so. One of our previous Prime Ministers tried to get that verbal agreement in writing from Nixon way back. To this very day, no such WRITTEN agreement exists, so Australia is, to put it mildly, pissing into the wind just like the Ukrainians.
Brilliantly put. Could not agree more. We lost out in beef, wine (we had 40% of the Chinese market), barley, wheat, sea food, table grapes look like they are going to go (300 million annually). If the Chinese students dont come to our universities then $10 billion goes out the window.
Now what does out government and the opposition say? Look to other markets.
Here is the problem; Australia got the highest prices for all our exports to China. For example a lobster sold in China for $100. Now they are selling them in supermarkets for $20.
Right now, there are 10 reader-comments here, and none of them even makes any reference to the brilliance of Mercouris’s analysis, nor to the indisputable logic that it displays, and which, in effect, establishes his opinions in it as being virtually equivalent to being established as being facts, even when they are referring to the future — i.e., are predictive. You simply don’t get it. The US is calling nothing off. Ukraine is like Kosovo; its there to serve US interests at any cost but the US will not start something they cant finish so let the Ukraine stalemate continue. This whole venture was given the green light from Washington to see how quickly the Russians could muster their troops and to their horror they saw the Moscow moved in 100,000 plus equipment in a very short time. Its a big lesson for NATO.
NATO is incapable of learning from such lessons. It’s in a ‘special class’ of its own.
Take a flight from Istambul to Kyiv and you’ll get all the evidence you want. Hint: those guys with funny fur hats and curly hair are no U.S. hipsters.
As for Mr. mercouris’ brilliant analysis, he has been hunting phantoms for months like all western media, namely the idea of war between russia and ukraine. That was never on the table. The whole sham was an attempt by a desperate clown to get a job in NATO or the EU by making a mess which failed miserably.
And of course part of one of the “grand strategies” of the west to weaken russia. As with all those western grand strategies, they completely backfired.

Ukraine was a natural choice since Kyiv used to be the center of jewish life in Europe. Lots of people with funny hats and curly hair in the flights from Istambul to Kyiv these days.
