Chicago Fire players hang with Shedd animals to promote new Primeblue jerseys

Chicago Fire defender Carlos Terán had never been to an aquarium.

So when the club’s media team reached out and asked if he wanted to take part in a photo shoot at the Shedd Aquarium to promote the team’s new adidas Primeblue kits, he jumped at the chance.

“It was super cool,” Terán said via a translator. “It was a lot of fun. The craziest thing was getting to touch the sea lion, that was the craziest.”

Terán, and his teammates Elliot Collier, Miguel Navarro, and Chinonso Offor got to hang out with sea lions, seals, macaws and beluga whales during the shoot.

Collier spent some quality time with Biff, one of the Shedd’s sea lions. The Kiwi and the sea lion shared a kick around.

“He only has one speed, and it’s all out!” Collier said. “He was shooting it more than passing it. I was passing it and he was smacking it back at me. It was good fun.”

The Primeblue kits are made with 50 percent “Parley Ocean Plastic”—basically, plastic trash pulled out of oceans is recycled and converted into the fabric. So, while the photos in this story are ridiculous and fun, the jerseys really do bring awareness to a major, very serious issue.

“The shirts are really nice,” Terán said. “And it becomes more important when you realize they’re made with the trash that we throw away into the oceans. It’s really nice to see all the different ways you can help the animals out there.”
