The world can’t stop listening to BTS’s new song “Permission to Dance,” but it’s possible that it is most popular in the band’s home country of South Korea, especially when looking at the daily Spotify charts. It’s not shocking that the latest release from the biggest vocal group in the world has ended up at No. 1, but that one placement only tells a small part of the story regarding the septet’s domination.
“Permission to Dance” debuted at No. 1 on the daily chart of the most-streamed songs on Spotify South Korea when it was first released (Friday, July 9), and one day later, it is steady atop the tally. As the seven-member band’s latest launch keeps atop the list, they also fill the next two spaces, giving them control over the top three rungs simultaneously.
It’s certainly not impossible for any act to dominate like BTS currently are when it comes to Spotify, but it still speaks to their incredible popularity, especially in the Asian nation.
In its second day of availability, “Permission to Dance” racked up almost 53,000 streams in South Korea alone (and only on Spotify). Steady in second place is “Butter,” which brought in another 34,000 plays. Up from where it ranked on Friday (July 9) to No. 3 is the group’s previous English-language tune “Dynamite,” which only managed 15,000 listens, though that’s apparently enough for it to rank as the third-most-played tune in the country.
“Permission to Dance” is turning out to be a very stable hit for BTS, at least in the first two days, as it earned almost the same number of streams in its second day on Spotify in South Korea as it did in its first. Usually, even big hits see a sizable decrease, as fans rush to listen to a new cut when its first available, and then interest then begins to wane.
Amazingly, when looking at the entire list of the 200 most-streamed songs on Spotify in South Korea, BTS occupy an incredible 40 spaces. That means the septet claim 20% of the ranking for themselves, which is an absolutely astounding show of popularity.
