Diehard Bears fan who was shot: 'I can't die before seeing Justin Fields take the field'

If you need any indication just how much Justin Fields fever has taken over Chicago, look no further than one diehard Bears fan’s story, where he used Fields as inspiration to get through a trying time.

Scott Morrow, a 41-year-old, was shot in the back while walking to a friend’s house in Humboldt Park on June 20. Morrow was soon after taken to Mount Sinai hospital. According to 670 the Score, Morrow’s first thoughts where of his mother, family and friends. Later, his thoughts turned to the Bears, especially rookie quarterback Justin Fields, who has restored hope in this franchise and its fans.

“Within a couple moments, I thought well, I’m 41, pretty much all of Chicago has gone our whole lives without even having great prospects for a franchise quarterback, I can’t die before seeing Justin Fields take the field, man,” Morrow said on the Parkins and Spiegel Show on 670 the Score.

“I think there was maybe a little power of the Beloved coursing through the veins there. A couple two or three extra shots of adrenaline.

“I don’t plan to die before he’s a Hall of Famer.”

Morrow credits the police and doctors at Mount Sinai for helping save his life, as it was a close call, according to 670 the Score.

“They gave me a lot of blood in the OR,” Morrow said. “I lost my spleen. I lost a kidney, a small portion of my pancreas and they repaired whole to my stomach and diaphragm. You can hear I’m still a little out of breath talking to you guys. I’ve had a couple post-surgery infections that I’ve had to go back in the hospital for. Right now, I’m resting with my parents in the suburbs.”

Morrow is currently recovering from the gunshot wound, which required surgery, but he’s alive and ready to see Fields in action. Although he might have to wait a little longer, as Andy Dalton has already been named the Week 1 starter. Although, a lot can change between now and the start of the season.
