NOT QUITE PERFECT

Love at first sight is easy. It’s what comes next that’s difficult.

When I met David Carstairs on the ferry to my mom’s surprise wedding, it was love at first sight. The handsome professor and I had so much in common, not the least of which was an attraction neither of us could deny. I’d given up on the idea of finding a man like him, but David was proof that good things come to those who wait.

Unfortunately, it turned out that my mom’s mystery groom was none other than David’s dad, turning our dreams of happily ever after into one long nightmare. We’ve tried to pretend our night together never happened, but you don’t forget something that felt so absolutely perfect.

Now, I'm left wondering how I'm supposed to pretend I don’t know the taste of David’s lips or the way my name sounds when he moans it in the dark. How do I sit across from him at family dinners and pretend I’m not hopelessly in love with my new stepbrother?
