Sourav Banerjee is the Country Director of Room to Read India, an International non-profit working in the areas of early grade literacy and girl’s education. As head of the organization, Sourav provides oversight at the country level and represents the organization with governments, donors and other stakeholders. He leads a multidisciplinary team of around 500 staff across nine states of India.
Sourav has been instrumental in shaping the growth of Room to Read in India and scaling up of its programs in collaboration with governments. He brings in a high level of strategic thinking, coupled with a strong desire to bring in a systemic change in education.
Sourav has close to 25 years of experience in the elementary education sector, working for government, non-government and donor organizations. Before Room to Read, Sourav worked with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) where he led conceptualizing, designing and managing of education and skill development activities. He had also been closely associated with the initial planning, implementation and monitoring of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), a flagship Government of India program for universal elementary education, and the largest education reform program in the world.
