The Seasons Change #1

Falling in Reverse

Rate this book
Ronan Walsh.

Delicious Irish accent. Built like a slab of marble. Infuriatingly controlling.

My new bodyguard...

All I want is to rock hard with my band, The Seasons Change, and finally live my life exactly how I please. No one telling me what to do, no constraints, total freedom.

Too bad I’ve managed to piss someone off.

Crazed fan or bitter ex, it doesn’t really matter, since the result is the same. My wings are clipped and I’m strapped to a bodyguard with steamrolling tendencies and a disdain for celebrities.

Everyday I spend with Ronan is a battle. For control. For independence. And most unexpectedly, with my own willpower.

Because Ronan doesn’t just want to protect me. He wants me in his bed too, and ceding my control to Ronan is more tempting than I ever imagined.

But I’m Iris Adler, a fierce-to-my-bones rocker. If Ronan Walsh really wants all of me, he’d better be prepared for the fall.

dnf @ 19%💀

i couldn’t do it anymore, i tried tho✋🏻

a one star, a two star then two dnf’s in a row?? who tf torturing my voodoo doll? what did she ever do to you?

i liked Iris in the beginning, and i expected to fall in love with her... but my optimism quickly soured bcos she transformed into this whiny, petulant child all of a sudden when Ronan was assigned to protect her.
“If she insisted on being petulant, taking everything I said personally, then this wouldn’t work.”

like Ronan was professional, just doing his job by asking basic questions about the break in Iris experienced and potential suspects she had in mind. he literally was like any other bodyguard, surveying her home after the break in, assessing weaknesses and such, telling her what she needed to do in order to protect herself... and her behaviour in turn was so irritating, childish and bizarre.

she acted like the man was holding her grandmother at gunpoint after drop kicking her dog off a cliff. like she was reaching to find something to be mad about😭

okay, so just get burgled and murdered in your own home then? go ahead.

he was just doing his job to ensure your safety my gal. being a snotty little rat ain’t the way to go. she used the defence that she didn’t like being told what to do... yeah most people don’t, mate, but if it’s listen to someone’s sage advice or die then you can tell me what to do till the cows come home.

idk what it is with “stubborn” heroines... bcos there’s stubborn and headstrong which can be so fun to read. then there’s zero brain cells and a severe lack of self awareness.

Iris falls into the latter category.

i think the author was trying too hard to make Iris the “cool, mysterious girl”

like this scene was just replaying in my head over and over the whole time with Iris😭

description

(also shoutout to Mareeva for being the real MVP by showing me how to insert images on GR. look who's cool now😎)

so im out bcos i have now lost the will to live🥲

Wow, I really enjoyed that, more than I thought I would! I’m going to stop saying that I usually don’t like celebrity romance, because every single one I’ve read lately has been a hit, so I’ll just say that I continue to be taken by surprise.

Iris is a bonafide rockstar, as lead singer of The Seasons Change, so when her apartment is broken into and trashed, her manager forces her to be followed around by a bodyguard. A stunning, grumpy, Irish bodyguard named Ronan. Who doesn’t have an off switch when it comes to his protectiveness…and to her constant ire, his bossiness.

Ronan, for his part, hasn’t had many great experiences with guarding celebrities. Suffice it to say, he’s not a fan. Which means that the first few times Iris gets in a hot spot, Ronan can’t control his temper, or his mouth. Iris never backs down from him, letting him know exactly where he can shove his bad manners. So naturally, he falls for the girl, and she in return. The only problem is, her stalker hasn’t backed off, and the clock is ticking against the two of them.

So yes, I had a blast reading this! Ronan is adorably gruff and bossy, his moods didn’t scare me a bit. I LOVED Iris, loved her! She’s adorable, spunky, sexy, independent, and most importantly, she knows her own mind and heart. The two of them together are goals, meant to be. I can’t wait to keep reading about the others! Also, loved the side story about Finn and Vanessa, it was strangely sweet!

As an Irishwoman, my whole life has been spent cringing when (typically Americans) do anything even vaguely connected to Ireland and stick an 'Irish' label on it. Irish pubs, Irish accents, Irish people... even when they represent Scots too, it's something I've always been sensitive to. The over stereotyping. It can be painful.

I hate reading dialect and strongly accented language. I'm a firm believer in planting the seeds of how the character sounds in the beginning and letting the reader hear in through the book. Tell me he's Irish, demonstrate a little of how he sounds in the words and then leave it to me to impose that over the words I'm reading, rather than writing it out so heavily that it's clunky and trips me up/pulls me out of the story while I'm reading.

So when my favorite author announced she was writing an Irish hero, I admit a small piece of me died inside. I was absolutely convinced I'd have to break off my love affair with this woman's books for crimes against my country - okay, a little extreme perhaps, but it's a pet peeve.

Looking back, I shouldn't have been at all concerned, I should have known she'd research it the same way she researches all her books. With precise intent to deliver the very best book she can write (and believe me, she writes great freakin books).

To say she's done it well wouldn't be a big enough compliment. She nailed it.

As usual, Julia has woven the most beautiful of epic love stories between two perfectly imperfect people. A story that grabs you from the first page, holds on to you with both hands and doesn't let you go until you're out the other side.

Ronan, a hulkin' brute of an overprotective, dominant (not to be confused with Dom), stoic Irishman, and his sassy, badassy, rocker heroine Iris. Both broken and fiercely independent in their own ways, come together in an employer/employee situation that causes fireworks from the get go.

Julia has never written bad sexy times. With each book she somehow manages to write better, steamier, panty-melting sex and Ronan and Iris were no different. They were gasoline on a raging fire, FIRE.

I loved this book. The only paper copies I have of Julia's books so far are her high school bully series - not cause I don't love her books (I do) but I don't have a lot of space where I currently live. But this one, this beautiful book, from the cover, to the depth of character and story, the hot as hell sexy times, great suspense, and side characters I neeeeeed stories for? It's going to be a 'purchase in all forms' kind of book.

If I haven't yet managed to convince you to read this book, then I'll tell you outright: go read this book.

I think every woman who reads it will find something to relate to in Iris. Whether it's her desire to cling to her hard-won independence, her fears and vulnerability, or something as simple as her snap back one line sassy pants dialogue - she's a deeply relatable character and I had more than a few giggles throughout this book.

TL;DR: LOVED IT.

After reading 'Built to Fall', I had to get back into this world! I loved the Claire and Dom content, and although I loved Iris and Ronan, I didn't love the suspense aspect of this one. I wanted more of the rockstar book, not a romantic suspense. Still, I'm enjoying reading this author's books and I'm looking forward to reading more!

Bodyguard rock star romance, the devotion was so well done and the steam was HOT. The heroine has a stalker so the hero is hired to protect her and they also are trying to solve who is her actual stalker. Age gap, lots of praise kink, just a good time allll around

So Much Potential

3.45/5

I think that the way TikTok portrayed this book, my expectations were skewed from the start.

While this book is not as vanilla as the second (Stone Cold Notes), it lacks something. I kept waiting for depth, but it never arrived.

Iris' past and her relationship with her parents could have been explored a lot more.

Ronan's character was decently developed, but I didn't like him as much as I thought I would.

The smut was a mixed bag. Some scenes were incredibly written, others seem half-a**ed. I think that, like with Stone Cold Notes, the smut starts up well, but the execution, middle, and end parts are rushed.

It's a good book, I guess, but nothing to write home about.

** One of my Top 20 of 2021 Picks on www.JeevesReads.com! **

Is it HOT in here, or is it just this book? WOW, that was an intense and steamy ride! This rock star/bodyguard romance had me HOOKED from the first page, and easily kept my interest until the very end. I stayed up way, way too late reading - and I have zero regrets. This couple is absolute fire together, and I loved the intensity of the story. Electric chemistry sparked the moment these two meet, and it was push/pull, tension/passion after that. Our overprotective hero is a complete caveman, but in a way that was… charming? lol, he’s a lot to handle, but so is our heroine. She’s a troublemaker who can’t stop pushing the hero’s buttons, and that makes for some seriously combustible scenes.

The story follows Iris, a rocker on the rise. With the growing popularity of her band, it’s become apparent that Iris can no longer live a normal life. Her bandmates insist that she get a bodyguard, and that’s the last thing this fiery and passionate woman wants. But Ronan isn’t such a bad guy; the protective Irishman is actually very sexy. As the two become a part of each other’s lives and discover that opposites really do attract, it’s impossible to keep the relationship purely platonic. The only problem? Ronan wants to keep Iris safe, while she has no desire to be tied down.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read anything by Wolf, but I was immediately reminded of her talent when I started reading. This will put you through your emotional paces, and there is such an intensity to the story - and I’m not just talking about those STEAMY scenes! Wowza. This is a hot slow burn, with chemistry that absolutely sizzles. I loved these two together, and the emotional connection was just as important as the physical one. Ronan is a natural protector, while Iris is wild and free. Together, they make an excellent pair. Neither one is perfect, and seeing them compromise and evolve was one of my favorite things. This promises to be a very good series, and I’m definitely looking forward to the next couple. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this rock star romance.

Wow... I thought Built to Fall was Julia's hottest rocker book, but she's outdone herself with Falling in Reverse. Iris and Ronan are straight FIRE! I loved how they were opposite in most ways, yet they complemented each other so well. Iris is strong, knows who she is, and makes no apologies, which I love in heroines. The hero, Ronan... my God, he is so alpha delicious! Throw in the accent, and it's even better! Grab this book the second it releases. You won't be sorry!

Julia is my ultimate go to when I need a badass heroine who knocks her hero off his aas, and we got all of that and more in this book!! I haven't read too many bodyguard romances, but now they are at the top of my list!! Good gravy, for such an intense man, Ronan was so freaking HOOOTTTTT in the sack. Holy crap.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Iris is a Rockstar, who loves what she does and feels so deeply. When a scary incident takes place, the random man she picked up in the doggy park now turns into her protector, and she can't help but poke at his cloeed off nature. They are opposites in every single way, but those subtle moments when Ronan would lose control in the beginning was EVERYTHING. And I loved how sassy our girl was! She just wanted her independence free of this nightmare, and just wants her and her band to reach all their dreams -- she just never expected to fall for an uptight, closed off bodyguard. But you can't deny how perfect these two are for each other! I can't wait until we get the other bandmates stories, especially Callum!!

Do yourselves a favor and put this book on the top of your must read list. Julia is absolutely KILLING it this year!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

I most definitely loved the whole rocker and bodyguard aspect of this story as well!

Julia Wolf's Falling in Reverse is book 2 in The Seasons Change series featuring a metal rock band with a big difference- their lead singer is a woman with a sultry, haunting voice and personna that are both sexy and badass as hell!  Iris Adler is the real deal, a rocker queen who wears the passion she has for her brand of music like a glittering crown.  She's unashamed to be exactly who she appears to be- beautiful, talented and bright as the sun- exuding confidence, strength and independence...at least until a someone desecrates her home and with that, her peace of mind.

Enter Ronan Walsh.  On the surface he appears to be just a buttoned up, intense powerhouse of an Irishman who needs to be in control of any situation, as an excellent bodyguard should be, but underneath all that muscle is a sensual, smoldering man who could melt any woman with a mere steely glance in her direction.  His security company is now charged with protecting Iris, much to her very vocal dismay, so she makes a point to give Ronan a run for his money every chance she gets...very funny, but also unwise.  She values the life she's created for herself way too much- controlling men need to stay in the past where they belong for her own sanity and happiness. These two are battling it out for her safety and to her, freedom, opposites in every way, BUT, you know what happens when opposites attract??? Fireworks and in this case, they light up the sky and every surface around them!!

Wooowee, Julia Wolf has upped her game again with Falling in Reverse, with this sizzling couple whose explosive chemisty is hot, sexy as can be, also wild and beautiful when they finally give in to all that yummy attraction that's been brewing!! Iris is one special lady and I just loved her very sassy, quirky personality, outlook on life and her one of a kind style. So, of course she's been added to my list of all time fav Julia Wolf leading ladies, what else can a girl do??  I'm loving The Seasons Change-the series, the band and their fun dynamic.  Between Adam, rowdy and playful to the mysteriously silent Callum, there are more stories to look forward to in this series for sure!  My thanks to the author for providing this early copy for me to read and review.

I've decided that my initial comment is perfect for this review! This is one of those books that when you finish you have no regrets! Iris and Ronan are perfect for each other, even if they don't initially see it. They are fire and all things good ❤️🔥

This author knocks it out of the park with yet another enthralling and tantalizing rockstar romance! I adore this author’s style of writing and how she weaves together a story that is interesting and titillating with captivating and relatable characters. Falling In Reverse is a definite must read if you love rocker romances with a strong leading lady and a swoon worthy hero.

Iris definitely one of my favorite characters. She is the saucy lead singer of The Season’s Change and ends up in a situation where she needs a bodyguard. She is a spunky, headstrong, and an all around fun heroine that I would love to know in real life. Iris doesn’t want anything to hinder her independence so you can imagine how reluctant she was to have Ronan as a body guard. Stubborn to a fault, it was entertaining to witness this rocker pushing all of Ronan’s buttons.

Ronan is positively scrumptious. Smoldering with a fierce protective nature, this fine Irishman possesses a commanding presence that both frustrates and attracts Iris. He occasionally seemed a bit too controlling but his heart was in the right place.

Ronan and Iris have definitely met each others’s matches and boundaries are pushed as the sparks are flying between these two. Seriously, my kindle was smoking from their sizzling chemistry! I like how there is a little bit of a forbidden element because the professional lines are blurring between a rockstar and her body guard.

Falling In Reverse is a standalone and is book 1 in this author’s The Seasons Change series. It was fun to be introduced to all of the new band members. I always love to see the camaraderie and family dynamic that this author creates between her characters. I cannot wait to get all of their stories! If you are looking for an engaging read with an entertaining storyline and lovable characters set within a rocker-bodyguard world, then you do not want to miss out on this book!

I read an early version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

This author never ceases to impress me. Sure, we’re back in the world of rock and roll, but I’m okay with that. First, I already loved a few of these characters. Second, I loved Iris and Ronan. I mean, this time we went full on angry alpha man who gets his rear handed to him by the woman he absolutely shouldn’t want, but has to have. Add in the danger and twists I didn’t see coming and I was hooked from the first chapter.

Iris was a tad of a free spirit, and she dealt with a mostly unearned reputation with class and grace. She didn’t much care what strangers thought of her, as long as those close to her heart knew the real her. And she thought maybe Ronan could be one of those close people until he opened his mouth and judgment rolled out. From there, it became a game of push and pull to see who might bend first. And holy wow, what a game it was.

Ronan knew he was being stupid. He knew his mouth ran away with him. But he also knew he was unable to stop it. Because if he did, he’d break all of his rules. But some rules really are meant to be broken. It just took him a little while to figure that out. And once he did, it was full speed ahead to make Iris want to stay and be his forever. Because he was definitely ready to be hers.

This book had it all. Friends like family, some serious heat, big dumb man moments, an angry woman who wasn’t about to simply obey because the manly man (or anyone) demanded that she do so, humor, and a very real reason for some worry in the end. Since this author manages to surprise me with her talent each time she decides to add something unexpected to her stories, I look forward to whatever may come from her mind next.

I thought this book was terrific. The author created two fierce, stubborn characters with chemistry that was incendiary and an attraction that was as obvious as it was electric. Then storyline is smart and skillfully crafted. It will give you mega feels, major swoon and have your temperature on the rise; while also keeping you guessing and firmly planted on the edge of your seat. I guess what I'm really trying to convey is that she skillfully constructed an irresistible powerhouse of a read with a couple that is going to steal your heart. Iris and Ronin are complete opposites that are perfect for each other. These two really give your heart a serious workout as scorching desire, mixes with raw emotion, taut drama, angst, tension, suspense, heart, humor, danger and twists into a captivating and consuming tale that was sinfully delicious!! This is my objective review that I am posting of my own accord.

What is it about this author that she consistantly just really BRINGS IT and has me addicted in every book? Ronan and Iris are pure fire 🔥🔥 I loved every word and was fully invested by the first chapter. First off they are both dog lovers so you KNOW they are good people lol.
Ronan is my kind of hero, softie for his girl but growly to everyone else.
And Iris! I love her free spirit and independence (and at times, her bull headed stubborness). Together there is nothing they can't conquer but boy do they get to test that theory out!
In the end I think they each grew and evolved in their own way and as a couple. Their chemistry was ridiculous so be warned and be sure to have a fan handy because MY, MY do these two bring the heat! This is the perfect book for a cozy fall afternoon and I can't wait to see what this author gives us next!

When the opportunity presented itself to recieve an ARC of Julia Wolf’s newest book I jumped at it- and I was not disappointed.

Falling in reverse brought everything I could want in Spicy Romance Story: slightly forbidden love, opposites attracting each other, with hints of darker elements, and just a tad bit of mystery with a twist that was not shoved in my face.

Ronan and Iris were the perfect balance of a love story that wasn’t overly predicable and played out, even though it’s heading towards a HEA.

I’m so thrilled I got to experience this great live story a bit sooner then planed!

As if evidenced by the TikTok video playing my embarrassing gushy voice memo about this book I can admit that I don't want to say this is my favorite book by Julia, but it probably is...at least until I read the next one lol.

The character development in this book is top-notch and the alpha, stubborn, broody steam she brings with will require you to read with a fire extinguisher nearby.

The way these two push and challenge each other just adds to their tension, their swoon, and their explosive heat between them.

I dare you to read this book without fanning yourself or wiggling on the edge of your seat.

Eternally impressed with each and every new book Julia Wolf comes out with! Falling in reverse pulled me in and hooked me fast. Iris didn't do relationships and she didn't want to be a cliché lead singer hooking up her body guard...she wouldn't be that...but her tough, Irish, sexy suit wearing, ex military, bossy as hell body guard was always there. This was different though...because of how they met...

This book for me was a slow burn and so worth it. Neither Ronan nor Iris like to be told what to do for very different reasons Ronan's job is to protect his clients in order to do that they have to listen to him.

Iris had a parent who demanded things and when they weren't done it never ended well. Iris since 18 had been doing things her way, on her own and she had always been fine. After a situation arises and the CEO of her record label insists she have security. Now there is someone else who expects her to do what he says...Iris however won't just let that happen.

The chemistry between Iris and Ronan is instant and so strong. They are also super sweet and so similar in ways that aren't always obvious in to them. This book was another gem! I always look forward to the next book in line this one did not disappoint. I received an ARC copy of this book however, the opinions here are my own.

Great twist on a Rock Star romance

A great twist in the rock star romance genre. Ronan and Iris are fabulous together when they finally get together after some delicious push/pull. Low angst with some suspense, great characters and plenty of steam. Eager for more from this band.
