Learning at 40 (Lakeside Cottage Book 2) Kindle Edition
Zack Weller is timely, orderly, and meticulous. Too bad his seven-year-old, twin sons are hellions. With his divorce final, a two-week vacation beckons him to his best friend’s cottage. Unfortunately, he can’t help the magnetic pull of memories from the house next door—the one that was once his childhood home—or fight the force of nature in the naked woman sunbathing in that backyard.
River Nagle is a free spirit. She understands the trials and tribulations some people face and offers the compassion to deal with them head on. When she inherits a lakeside home, she takes the blessing for what it’s worth: a gift and a new beginning. Until one day two little boys make themselves at home in the tree fort in her backyard and she meets their hot, growly dad who steals her wine, her time, and her heart.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 14, 2022A moving story about two people healing after past heartaches. Zack has had a rough year with losing a close friend and going through a divorce. He’s a single parent of twin boys who he hasn’t spent much time with because he’s been working too much trying to avoid what’s really been going on. On a friends- cation to celebrate the life of his dead friend he meets River, a wonderful woman who he feels and instant attraction to but can only promis her a fling. River has recently moved to town for a change in job and into a house she inherited. She’s had losses and now dreams of hopefully finding love and starting a family of her own.
Zack and River’s story is filled with loss and heartache. It’s a story about learning to listen to others and forgive, finding love and friendship and believing not only in ourselves, but in others. An awesome read with likeable characters. Looking forward to reading their stories too. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 31, 2022Zach, one of the Four Points, intrigued me in book one. I was looking forward to his book since the end of Logan and Autumn’s story and it didn’t disappoint. I absolutely loved Zach and River’s relationship. The way their love took flight was just the sweetest but without some hardships. It wasn’t totally angst-filled but just enough mature drama that had me rooting for a HEA for them. Bring on the next book in the series!!
- Reviewed in Canada on September 16, 2021Oh my gosh. Grab your kleenex. Right from the beginning this tugged at my heartstrings.
River and Zack are opposites but they balance each other out.
I am so happy to see that L.B Dunbar has written more mature and beautiful characters with relevant story lines.

(Lakeside Cottage #2)
Written by: L.B. Dunbar
L.B. Dunbar’s Lakeside Cottage series is poignant, evocative and thought provoking. This series brings life, real life to readers. They are emotional and it’s surprising how you can see someone you know or yourself in parts of these stories. That is where she catches readers then reels them into the story and soon enough you are invested. Invested because there is always reality woven into her writing.
Four friends have now become three friends and people are still adjusting to Ben’s loss. Definitely his family, his wife Anna and their children but also Mason, Logan and Zack, everyone deals with grief differently. In Zack’s case his real life reality has changed as well, he is now divorced and has custody of his 7-year-old twin boys Oliver and Trevor. Life changes, life evolves and in Zack’s case coming back to Lakeside Cottage also brings back the past, a past he would like to forget, a past that scared him, a past that was thrust upon fifteen-year-old Zack Weller all those years ago.
River Nagle is just trying to live a quiet life, working in the pediatric oncology unit at the local hospital. She loves living by the water it helps her keep on a forward path. She left behind rumors and innuendo when she left her last job and moved into the house she inherited. Zack Weller’s childhood home.
Sometimes it’s a complete stranger that gives you the solace that you need and opens the door to understanding what you need to give to someone to earn their love and their trust. Sometimes that person helps you figure out what a note from the man you called brother means, “Fly in love.” Can you fly in love?
Learning at 40 proves that everyone can learn at any age. Sometimes it is right there and all you have to do to learn is embrace it. Sometimes you need to deal with the past to start “flying” and sometimes coming home is what you need to be a whole family.
Dunbar shows us grown men can still be dicks and little boys can take grownups on adventures that need to be taken to heal little hearts. She is able to take damaged hearts and heal them. She shows us that letting go though often hard is the beginning of a new life and a new family and that’s when you know that “flying in love” can happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series is almost too much! Loads of love and heartfelt moments.
Verified PurchaseThis is the return to Lakeside Cottage, and the 3 returning best friends make the most of the anniversary of their dear friend Ben. Each of them gets an envelope that was written by Ben prior to his death. This is all about Zack and his mischievous 7 year old twins.
A year ago, on the night Ben died, Zack turned towards the neighbors house which happened to be the house he grew up in. In the sunset, he saw a vision of what he thought could have been an angel. A woman who was wearing an almost sheer looking summer dress but from the distance he could not see her face.
Now a year later, he hears a sound outside coming from the neighbors house and gets out of bed and walks to the window that's on the 2nd floor of Anna's house and is mesmerized by the vision of the neighbor dancing in her back yard then as she settles on her lounge chair he witnessed something he could not take his eyes from.
Now a day or so later he looks out his window again and she is actually sunbathing nude. His friends wonder what's going on as they pass by and see him staring out the window. He tries to cover their eyes just as Ben's teenage son comes in and tells them all he knew what was going on and said he was told not to work on her yard today because that was her plan.
Zack later starts looking for his boys and comes to find them at the neighbors house playing in tree house at the back of her property. Zack is quite gruff with her as he tells his boys to leave and to keep her clothes on.
This neighbor named River takes offense of his comments and tells him to lighten up.
I loved this story!! Those twins are truly endearing and I just wanted to reach out and hug them! Zack really has gone through so much with his father and ex-wife. He needed someone good for him and those boys!
Ready to learn more about Archer as he makes his first appearance in the next book. Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story of falling and flying
Verified PurchaseLearning at 40 is a beautiful story full of heartache and love. It starts out not long after Living at 40 finishes so we have all the emotions from the first book in the series. But as we learn more and more about Zach and River we see how their past decisions and experiences are affecting the lives they currently live. I love how LB Dunbar brings us such realistic characters with all their flaws and we fall in love with them anyway or maybe because of. Zach and River’s journey is full of lessons of love and friendship, trust and forgiveness, flying and falling.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Series Sophomore Slump!
Verified Purchase**No Spoilers**
The second book in the Lakeside Cottage series is a success! I held my breath while starting to read/listen to this follow-up of the first book, as I loved that one and was hoping for the same reaction in the second one. I was not disappointed. In my opinion, the overall plot of the series and, so far, each individual story for the men of Four Points, is definitely some of L.B.'s best writing to date. Zack indeed does have some learning to do as a single parent to a set of twins and in dealing with the past. What I love is that his story has depth and doesn't gloss over the parts the end up making it feel real and completely possible. She digs into the complications of relationships and takes the time to add just a little more in the believable category. One expects to hear each person's story in a series of books with a common theme, but what L.B. does to make the reader completely invested in the overall scope of the series is what sets these books apart for me. While the focus is on one particular story, she doesn't shy away from including the other characters and offering a moment for them to have the spotlight. And I want it! I crave those pieces .. of previous characters and of future ones! She's on a roll with this series and I highly recommend!
