FAQ’s your fellow students asked before getting the course

What level is this for?

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn to read harp music, including complete beginners. You can start learning from the day your harp is delivered!

If you play by ear or learn through videos and now want to learn to read music, this course will be a perfect choice.

Many of our students had experience with other instruments reading only 1 line of music (violin, cello, trumpet) and they confirm this course helped them to get fluent in reading 2 lines and clefs!

Do I need a harp or can I take the course before I get one?

The course is highly practical and from Day 1 you learn to make the connections between the notes and the strings while playing your harp.

If you haven't got a harp yet, consider hiring an instrument before taking the course so you can make the most of it!

I've only got a small-size non-lever harp, will this work for everything I will need to play during the course?

You will need 7 strings below your middle C (reaching to low C) and 7 strings above (reaching to high C).

You will need to be able to play in the key of C major, so non-lever harp is fine as long as you're happy to tune it to the key of C major (and I will show you how to do this in the course!).

How is Reading Music different from other music theory resources?

Reading Music for Harp is not like any music theory books or websites you have come across... because it's all about putting things in PRACTICE

Every week you will receive a set of carefully curated, practical exercises designed specifically for harp (no more confusing tips that are only relevant to other instruments!).

The method used in this course has been designed through my experience of teaching harpists how to read music in a 1-1 setting and you will find it a lot more similar to a harp lesson rather than a dry  exercise from a music theory book or app.

We connect learning and playing, and you are guaranteed to learn exactly what you need to PLAY the harp (hands together from day 1)!

Why this program costs more than other online harp courses?

In this course you learn skills that will give you freedom to read music and to access a whole world of harp resources on your own.

You won't need a teacher to play for you or show you which strings to pluck, as you will have the confidence to work out the notes and rhythms by yourself. You will have in place proven strategies for learning a new piece and will not need to depend on step-by-step instructions.

To put it differently: instead of being given a fish, you will learn HOW to fish... and the skills you'll gain will allow you to learn more pieces (and more new skills!) through any other resources you will find!

I'm already taking 1-1 lessons, do I need the course?

The course is designed to work both alongside any existing training that you're already taking as well as for self-taught harpists.

In the course you work on universal skills that will serve you for a lifetime of harp playing. Learning them will help you progress more quickly and make the most of 1-1 lessons or any other training that you're working through at the moment.

The exercises in Reading Music for Harp are unique to this course and you won't get them anywhere else - so no risk you end up working on the same material for the second time elsewhere!

How much time do I need?

The course is designed to be taken over 4 weeks, with each of 4 Modules becoming available at the beginning of each week.

Each Module consists of 4-5 videos lessons. You will get best results if you set aside some time to practice every day, and you will need about 20-30 minutes a day to work your way through all the lessons in a given week.

However you can make progress even with as little as 10 minutes a day in which case you will probably spend a little longer than a week per Module. Once released, all Modules are available to watch for a full year, so you can learn at a pace that works best for you.

Are the lessons live or prerecorded?

The lessons are prerecorded so you can start learning anytime, regardless of your time zone or schedule.

The learning content is organised into 4 Modules across 4 weeks, with Modules released weekly, so you can gradually build foundations and feel at ease with the basics before progressing to more advanced skills.

Is there a time limit for completing the lessons?

You get access to the course videos for a full year (365 days from the date Module 4 is released).

All the additional materials (checklists, transcripts, scores for the exercises) are downloadable so you can keep using them for as long as you like!

Are you still thinking about it?

I personally cannot wait to guide you through the next 4 weeks.

Being able to read the music opens so many doors to play with more confidence and picking new pieces with real freedom.

Should you choose to accept my invitation, I promise that the next 4 weeks will truly transform your playing and give you the spark that you need to keep going on your journey with the harp.

I look forward to meeting you personally inside Reading Music for Harp.
