Things are looking up for returned Islamic State bride Lisa Smith, who betrayed her country after converting to Islam and traveling to Syria to be with her Islamic State jihadist husband.
Smith is a former member of the Irish Defence Forces. She is now seeking to have terror-related charges against her dropped. Her case “will be heard by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin next week.” In May, Smith won her appeal against a ban on entering Britain, one she should not have won. Her legal team argued that she was “‘entitled’ to the rights of a dual citizen as a consequence of her father’s birthplace, Belfast in Northern Ireland” (national security considerations be damned).
Smith travelled to Syria in 2015 and married British Islamic State fighter Sajid Aslam, who was later killed in the way of Allah. “She escaped the Ain Issa camp in Syria before being deported from Turkey,” and “was arrested at Dublin Airport after returning from Turkey in December 2019 with her two-year-old daughter.” Smith was subsequently charged for being a member of the Islamic State terror group and for funding terrorism, but now she’s claiming innocence. She is denying charges “on the grounds there is not sufficient evidence to convict her on any of the charges.” Almost any jihadist associated with the Islamic State can do the same, since detailed evidence about the atrocities committed by Islamic State jihadists is difficult to acquire. Her application is still being considered anyway. Here’s the kicker: The details of Tuesday’s hearing cannot be reported by the media. What is there to hide? After all, no one wants an “Islamophobic” public uproar, do they?
Smith, along with all other Islamic State returnees, is a grave danger to Ireland. She betrayed her country and likely used (and will continue to) her Defence Forces training (paid for by Irish taxpayers) to aid the Islamic State to spread the Sharia. Now she is back. The public deserves full transparency and won’t be getting it.
“Ex-Defence Forces soldier makes bid to have terror charges dropped,” by James Ward, Independent, January 11, 2022:
A legal bid by former Irish Defence Forces member Lisa Smith to have terror-related charges against her dropped will be heard by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin next week.
Co Louth woman Smith, 39, is accused of being a member of so-called Islamic State (IS) and financing terrorism.
Her trial before the non-jury court was due to start this week.
At a hearing on Tuesday, lawyers for Smith sought to make an application for the case to be dismissed on the grounds there is not sufficient evidence to convict her on any of the charges.
The three judges presiding over the case agreed to consider the application next Monday.
Ms Smith appeared in court while her senior counsel Michael O’Higgins, outlined the basis of the application, under Section 4(e) of the Criminal Justice Act.
The details of Tuesday’s hearing cannot be reported by the media.
Ms Smith, wearing a dark coat, grey hat and black face covering, is currently on bail.
Her lawyers have claimed that there is not sufficient evidence against Ms Smith, however this was rejected by prosecution.
If the application is not successful, the trial will go ahead and is likely to last for 12 weeks.
The case received widespread attention in 2019 when it emerged that Smith, a former Air Corps soldier who had worked on the Government jet, had been detained in Syria over alleged links to IS.
Smith was arrested at Dublin Airport in 2019 on suspicion of terrorist offences after returning from Turkey in November with her young daughter.
She had travelled to Syria a number of years ago after she converted to Islam.
Smith is charged under Section Six of the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act …

There can be no bigger loser on Earth than an adult who converts to Islam.
PRCS says
Joey, baby. And he hasn’t even converted–as far as we know.
John says
If she’s freed, maybe the IRA can ‘knock’ her off.
Keith O says
Hold that thought!
Infidel says
Is the IRA still a Catholic theocratic terror group?
Keith O says
Basically, yup.
Still preferable to mudslimes.
Hoi Polloi says
Well, Ms. Smith certainly looks to have re-assimilated, what with all that heavy islamic garb. So is it in with the cover so they’ll rape someone else, out with kill the infidel? Or what? It’s a little confusing.
PRCS says
So, has she renounced Islam?
Ecosse1314 says
They never were theocratic. They fought for an Irish Republic which would include the Irish protestants.
In fact many of the leading lights of the Irish cause were protestants ..Wolfe Tone and Charles Stuart Parnell to name but two.
In fact if they are anything the IRA are more likely to be Marxist though they mainly draw support from the RC community.
OLD GUY says
I guess once her hero husband was killed, living in a muslim country wasn’t so great, so now she wants to come home and spread her islamic religion and live off the non-believers. Send her back.
raja says
Yeah , send her bacj

I would like to hear the testimony of Lisa Smith pertaining to her conversion to Islam. It is possible she was not, as a child, raised into any religion and as an adult saw Islam as the “guiding spiritual light@ she had been missing. But if she was raised as a Christian, it is very difficult for me to understand how any person can give up Jesus Christ God Incarnate for Allah. Please take note that Allah was already being worshipped by pagan Arabs before the so-called “prophet” Muhammad came along. ?
Carol the 1st says
What is there in Islam that is any kind of a “guiding spiritual light”? Hobbling along in lockstep and having a mutual enemy to simulate ‘brotherhood”? Does their kingdom of heaven “lie within”? It doesn’t seem so.
