Gurufish to bring Atlanta funk to Metamorphosis party at Alys Beach

SANTA ROSA BEACH — Atlanta funk band and 30A Songwriters Festival favorite Gurufish will bring back their signature “pharmaceutical grade funk” to South Walton County to headline the Metamorphosis party to raise funds and awareness for the Point Washington Medical Clinic (PWMC). 

Metamorphosis marks the PWMC’s fifth birthday and celebrates the transformation in progress from a pop-up clinic to a new stand-alone facility. The event, scheduled for 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, on Kelly Green at Alys Beach, is presented by Emerald Coast Title Services with support from The Alys Foundation, Fishers Flowers & Events, York Developments and Ophelia.   

Gurufish will perform Friday, April 1, at the Metamorphosis  party at Alys Beach to benefit the Point Washington Medical Clinic.

General admission tickets are $50 per person in advance and $60 at the door (if available). Tickets are on sale now at thepwmc.org.

The event will be outdoor and socially distanced. As they do in the clinic, PWMC’s staff and volunteers will follow all medically approved best practices to protect the health and safety of everyone. As guidelines continue to evolve, PWMC will provide updates to attendees via our pre-event emails.

Electrifying audiences everywhere with their own provocative blend of pop, funk and soul, Atlanta's Gurufish is best known for its high-octane live show fueled by irresistible melodies wrapped around hypnotic, gritty, funky grooves.

Gurufish performed at the Alzheimer's Music Fest in Atlanta earlier this year. The band will headline the Metamorphosis party at Alys Beach on Friday, April 1. Proceeds will benefit the Point Washington Medical Clinic.

After a great start to the year with a sold-out showcase at SXSW, Gurufish was listed by PASTE Magazine as one of the top 25 Georgia Bands. They were also honored with the distinction of being recognized by the GA Music Awards as Georgia's Best R 'n' B/Funk Band and recently appeared as featured performers on the WB network's "The Originals." 

Gurufish has shared the bill with such prestigious acts as Meaghan Trainor, Boyz II Men, Parliament-Funkadelic, The Brand New Heavies, Mother's Finest, Nikka Costa, Derek Trucks, The Flaming Lips, Galactic, Cypress Hill, Ghostland Observatory, P.M. Dawn, The Spin Doctors, Colbie Caillat, The White Stripes, LMFAO, KC & the Sunshine Band, The Isley Brothers and Foreigner, just to name a few.

Attire is as funky as you feel! Wigs are encouraged. Bring your own chair and don’t forget the dancing shoes.  

Tickets to see Gurufish on Friday, April 1, at Alys Beach are on sale at thepwmc.org for $50. Admission is $60 at the door.

There will be a cash bar and food trucks, including Taco 30A, Café Rico and Holi on Wheels with delicious offerings available for purchase.

Funds raised will be used toward the clinic’s planned stand-alone facility. The new 4,750-square-foot building includes space for six examination rooms, a conference area, teaching kitchen, meeting room, dental suite with a separate entrance/exit, dispensary, and a lobby with an educational library.

New services and programming planned will include preventative education, primary care, dental care, and more. That will transform the clinic into a "one-stop-shop" for comprehensive patient care and continue its mission to provide quality primary care, while expanding to include specialty services, dentistry, and wellness education.
