Regional emissions reduction plan 2024-2030

The Wairarapa – Wellington – Horowhenua region is an extraordinary and unique part of Aotearoa.  We all want to see our region thrive environmentally, socially and culturally, now and for generations to come.

Yet currently the human-induced impacts of a warming world are being felt in our backyard. To address this we need to make actionable decisions that will inform how to most effectively reduce our emissions and pollution for the benefit of our region – for today and tomorrow.

Te Mahere ā-Rohe Whakaheke Tukunga 2024-2030 | The Regional Emissions Reduction Plan (the Plan), presents key actions necessary to transition to a zero-carbon region that meet community needs and aspirations. It will identify the key shifts and priority actions that need to happen at a regional level to reduce carbon emissions.

All voices in the region are important when planning how we reduce pollution in a targeted way – including government, iwi, sector specialists, rangatahi and community groups. The actions identified in the Plan will be delivered by a diverse range of stakeholders.

Final Plan Approved!

On Tuesday 19 March 2024, the Wellington Regional Leadership Committee formally approved Te Mahere ā-Rohe Whakaheke Tukunga 2024-2030 | The Regional Emissions Reduction Plan 2024-2030, and endorsed the Plan for action.
