From the Author

Is he actively trying to ruinmy life?
Okay, he's hot, I get it. Tall,mind-blowing body and handsome. And he isn't a soulless, rich demon likeCharlie made him out to be.
But does he have to be funny?
Why can't he be a boring,awkward nerd?
The fact that he can listen tome talking with attention is making it ridiculously hard to breathe sometimes. Ifnot every second I'm with him. Sorting through my thoughts is close toimpossible.
We're organizing a wedding. Asmuch as I'm trying to suppress romantic thoughts for this guy I barely know, they keep popping up, like weeds during the rainy season. It's so damnimpossible to cut them all. And they keep appearing out of nowhere.
I try to keep the mood light, but now it's up to auditioning bands. What am I going to do if they play aslow, cheesy song?
Where did he even get bands andDJs to audition?
"What do you do for a living?"I ask as he parks in front of the hotel.
"Does it matter?" he asksbefore opening his door.
No, but where do the luxurycars come from? Last Saturday was a Ferrari. Then, on Sunday a Bugatti, andtoday we're riding in a fancy Audi which model I've never seen before. Now hehas this place set within short notice.
Who are you?
The valet opens my door andhelps me down, but in seconds Jason is next to him taking away my hand from theman. Great, now he's going to see what a sweaty idiot I can be.
"Not really," I answer. "Justasking because you somehow have a place ready with bands who are willing toaudition for you."
"For
us," he clarifies."Plus, DJs too."
"Okay, but bands and DJs onsuch short notice?"
He shrugs. "I wish I could takecredit for the setup, but it was Emmeline."
Well, that's new. That littlepiece of information takes care of any romantic thoughts I might be harboring. He has a significant other.
I flash him a questioning look."Your girlfriend?"
Wife, partner... thisproves that all the good ones are taken.
"No, my oldest brother'sgirlfriend," he says emphatically.
Somehow the revelation easesthe tension from my back. Why do I care if he's otherwise occupied by abeautiful woman? It's none of my business.
But he's so funny, and thoughtful, and smart. That goofy personality that he keeps hidden underneath theserious guy is breathtaking.
Easy there, girl. He's just an acquaintance helping me withCharlie's latest 'emergency'.
"So, I assume we don't likeEmmeline."
"She's... good for
Jack," he states a little thoughtfully."Kind of a busy body, but she gets shit done and doesn't take shit from him."
I snort. "You don't knowanything about her."
"Do too," he says.
"Name one thing you like abouther personally."
"Easy, she makes a meanespresso," he says. "But she's a pain in my ass, and her cats are demons."
"What's wrong with cats?" I saydefensively.
"Nothing, I love cats," hesays. "Hers just ruined my brother's sweet decor."
"Ah, personal vendetta," I joke, but glance at him wondering how this relation affected his own. "Let me guess, she took away your brother's attention."
He bumps my hip lightly withhis, giving me a tight smile. Ding, ding. I hit the jackpot. "The spot for bestfriend is open, in case..." he goes silent, and I love his bashfulness.
I think about Camilla and howit'd be to lose our time together because she finds love. That brings me tothinking about Jason and how much I enjoy being with him. I glance at him again, wondering if in another life where there are no shotgun weddings and I was alittle more put together, we could've been something else.
Thankfully he doesn't look myway, or he'd see how hard I'm blushing.
As we enter the ballroom, there's a small stage where instruments are already set up. In front of thestage, there are two chairs with a small table between them.
"We'll have dinner served fortwo while we enjoy the music," he says.

    Then He Happened
    By: Claudia Burgoa
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Emma Wilder

Claudia Burgoa penned another winner of a novel set in her “Spearman Family” series, a fabulous romantic comedy that will captivate your attention, tug on your heartstrings and have you gaining ear to ear, too. I adored the two lead characters, Jason Spearman and Eileen McBean, brought together by some unusual circumstances to help coordinate a shotgun wedding for her irresponsible sister Charlie and his equally irresponsible cousin, Marek. Jason, who is well off, agreed to foot the bill for it, though Eileen does not want him to go overboard despite her demanding, turned Bridezilla, sister. As much as I adored the two lead characters I despised how Eileen’s parents and sister treated her, like a doormat and I was not a fan that Eileen enabled them to, she had her reasons though and that aspect of her life worked out in the end and her sister redeems herself too. Thankfully, the McBean antics did not take away from the best part of this story, Jason and Eileen’s story. It was great to watch these two get to know each other as they worked together to make the wedding happen. Jason was a great sounding board, was easygoing and just went along with it everything, put out fires when needed and saved the day several times too. I thought the two were perfect together and for each other, I was secretly hoping it would be their wedding in the end and not Charlie and Marek, but Jason had a thing about weddings as you will see. Though a lot happen on that wedding day and it was all good, especially for Eileen, and it would be the last time any of them stole her thunder ever again. I loved how everything played out in his book, it is a wonderfully plotted story with the perfect balance of drama, humor and witty dialogue, just a touch of angst, lots of heartfelt emotions and a slow burn, but so worth the wait, romance. Claudia Burgoa, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride. Thanks for the blast in the past too, I am still humming “Come on Eileen”.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Claudia Burgoa always casts the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. The mega talented Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder did a fabulous job portraying these characters and did so with a complete understanding of who they were and gave them voices that suited them perfectly. I loved how they took each role, ran with it and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I pictured that character would sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, handled the witty dialogue effortlessly and landed the humor naturally. They also captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These entertaining storytellers are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.

No timeline consistency ... You have to pay attention to realize they switched back and forth in time. This is supposed to be a comedy, I think, but it is just two people coping with some of the most dysfunctional relatives believable. Her parents are totally awful and I cannot see how she has as many degrees as she has and yet she is still a slave to their and her sister’s total self-absorption. I struggled continuing to read for that reason. Her love interest (the groom’s brotherly cousin) apparently made a fortune, but lacks the brains to be in a relationship. Gun shy from dumped at the altar, he totally breaks all his self-imposed defense rules in letting her close. Sex happens around chapter 14 and it can be skimmed or skipped thereafter. Not well written enough for me to read, so I skimmed/skipped.

I love Mrs. Burgoa's writing and how all her characters from different books pop up in other stories. This story is funny, heartwarming and crazy. Eileen is going to be turning 30 and is getting her master's degree while working as a therapist and being the one that seems to have to always do things for her family. She is the middle child and even her younger brother gets ignored by the family because their parents are always trying to help their oldest sister out of whatever situation or trouble she gets herself into...pretty much they focus on their oldest child and blames the middle child (Eileen) for whatever goes wrong and expects her to fix things and just ignores their youngest child.

Jason Spearman doesn't believe in marriage anymore but he loves his family and would do anything for them. Which is how he ends up helping his cousin, Marek, try to find a job, a place to live, and help pay for Marek's wedding because his cousin got the girlfriend pregnant!

So this is how Eileen and Jason ended up meeting - she was somehow "assigned" to help plan her sister's wedding and Jason got roped into not only pay for the wedding but to plan it too. The things these 2 get into while planning the wedding is funny and they interacted like they knew each other for a long time. They understand each other since they are both middle children and have gone through similar situations. When Charlie, Eileen's sister, expects to have an extravagant wedding, honeymoon, and a nice place to live, Jason puts his foot down. Plus he's buying the wedding dress!

At least Eileen and Jason starts to build a relationship while putting together a wedding for a couple of ungrateful and spoiled individuals. I enjoyed how well Eileen and Jason understand each other therefore is able to support each other through all the stress put upon them. Jason "teaches" Eileen that she doesn't have to make everyone happy, especially when it is costing her what she wants. Eileen shows Jason that being in a relationship is not bad at all when it is someone that you care about and understands you.

I enjoyed this book since there are so many laugh out loud moments throughout the whole book. Plus Jason and Eileen are 2 great characters that deserved any happiness that they can find!

Decent read. However, the book jumps around in the later chapters and I'm not sure if that was intentional on the authors part or someone put the chapters in the wrong order before sending it to print.

It makes the story hard to follow and up to that point it was a decent read. The jumping around was unnecessary and confusing to keep up where the characters were in their developing relationship.

Note to author: You blew it if this was intentional. You made it more difficult for a reader to follow the plot. I won't be reading anything else written by you. I want to enjoy the development of the relationship between the characters without having to try and figure out where they are regarding the timeline.

I'm not a reviewer that gives a big explanation of the storyline, otherwise there'd be no need for you to read it!
This is only the third book that I've read that has evoked so many long forgotten memories and even emotions for me...... And I've read a lot of them!
The accuracy in its description was so emotive.... I have to give my hats off to the author!
I'm one of those that has been fortunate, or blessed, enough to have found their soul mate.
The wonder of getting to my age and still being married to my best friend is something I obviously take for granted on occasion after so many years.
In my opinion, the roller coaster of the angst and uncertainty when their friendship begins developing into something potentially one-sided was incredible.
Whilst reading, in my heart, I found myself reverting back to that twenty three year old again.
Add to that the sheer joy when it's discovered that it's reciprocated, is all encompassing.
From personal experience, the way in which the author has so expertly laid it down in print is amazing.
So much so, this 50 🤫 something woman is off to cuddle up to her best friend/soul mate for some reminiscing.
If you want a thoroughly believable storyline, with a little added "spice", this is DEFINITELY the book to read! ❤️

I loved the first book of the Spearman family series "Maybe Later". It was funny and the banter/emails were hilarious I was laughing a lot.
The sequel was a great let-down, boring with two main characters being doormats. I kept skipping with hope to read a twist that would amuse me. But no, Eileen's sister is bridezilla and the groom a demanding lazy bum.
Eileen is a complete doormat and her memories are the same, her birthday is always forgotten and she gets the blame for her sisters failures. I got really angry because she never reacts but is a dutiful daughter.
Jason is the same always placates and fulfills all the outrages demands of the penniless couple.

Then He Happened is a slow burning, fun and quirky read. I read it all in an afternoon. The characters were likeable, and they had smoking hot chemistry. But they also had amusing dialogue that had me laughing and smiling. Secondary characters were great too. I liked how the Spearman family interact with eachother. I enjoyed reading Jackson and Eileen's story!
