Make a Wish Kindle Edition
With her signature charm and sense of humor, bestselling author Helena Hunting creates a novel about love, family, and second chances in Make a Wish.
Ever have a defining life moment you wish you could do over? Harley Spark has one. The time she almost kissed the widowed father of the toddler she nannied for. It was so bad they moved across the state and she never saw them again.
Fast forward seven years and she’s totally over it. At least she thinks she is. Until Gavin Rhodes and his adorable now nine-year-old daughter, Peyton, reappear at a princess-themed birthday party hosted by Spark House, Harley’s family’s event hotel. Despite trying to avoid the awkwardness of the situation, she can’t help but notice how unbearably sexy he looks in a tutu. Add to that a spontaneous hives breakout, and it’s clear she’s not even remotely over the mortification of her egregious error all those years ago.
Except Gavin seems oblivious to her inner turmoil. So much so that he suggests they get together for lunch. For Peyton’s sake, of course. It’s the perfect opportunity to heal old wounds. Or it could just reopen them. This is one of those times Harley wishes she could see the future…

This is I think my favourite of the series, full of emotion and glitter.
From an almost-thing to years down the track, Harley and Gavin will have your heart soaring - add in his daughter and you won't be able to stop smiling.
I liked how Harley finally stood up to her sisters about things (it irked me before how they dismissed her so much) and also goes for the guy she always liked. It just with Gavin didn't take so long to tell some Karen's to shove it hahah.
Good to see the rest of the guys and gals from the series and where their relationships are at, and some time with some people from other series by Helena Hunting,
I really just liked this one. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy
What starts out as any normal day for Harley quickly changes… One moment she’s hosting a princess-themed birthday party at Spark house, the next she’s reunited with her former boss, Gavin, and his now nine year old daughter, Peyton. She worked for Gavin as Peyton’s nanny after his wife died in childbirth, until Peyton was about eighteen months old and the family unexpectedly moved out of town. After being away for so long they all reconnect and after some initial awkwardness between Harley and Gavin an easy friendship forms. Gavin starts to feel a little less alone, starts to feel like maybe happiness isn’t out of reach for him anymore. Harley obviously feels confused about it all but the truth is that there were feelings that existed before that have re-emerged. They have a uniquely shared bond. They have a history together but does this mean that they will have a future?
After Gavin lost his wife giving birth to Peyton, he thought his world had collapsed, he was devastated losing the love of this love. His emotions were all over the place because that was also the day when his precious little girl came into his life, and now it's mainly just the two of them. It was why he hired a nanny to help him navigate those first years. Then things changed and he and Peyton moved to be closer to his in laws. In the years he was gone, Harley matured and went to work with her sisters at Spark House and this is where they bump into each other again after seven years.
If you are worried that this story will be super sad and overly dramatic with part of the storyline, don't fear. It is not an angsty book at all. I would say it is a slow and steady romance, building trust to an everlasting relationship. Yes they have to navigate the sad loss of his wife and how do they move forward from that as well as having a nine year old daughter. Not that Peyton is a handful, she's adorable, it's more that they don't get as much alone time as other new couples would. This book probably took way longer than I normally read, and that's on me, but it was the perfect book for me to read over these holidays. I could pick it up at any time and not feel like I was lost or had to go back and re read a chapter to remember where I was. It's what I would classify a good vacation novel.

I really enjoyed the final instalment of the series. Harley was such an interesting character, and I really related to her being small and looking younger than her age. I loved her connection with Peyton, though occasionally Peyton read as younger than nine to me. I really enjoyed the progression of the romance, once it got going, and the emotional hurdles were well written. I've said this before about Helena Hunting's writing, and it applies again here. I love that she makes the characters do the work when there’s conflict. The same applies here, and I loved the open dialogue about therapy. It was also lovely to catch up with the older Spark sisters and their partners again, plus meet new characters. I loved Ian's voice of reason to Gavin, and appreciated the emotional layers beneath Karen's antics, even though she was infuriating at times. The final chapter had me sobbing happy tears, and that epilogue was just beautiful. A fitting end to the series.

Fast forward 8 years and Gavin and his daughter return to town. It takes a while but Harley and Gavin discover that it’s not only Peyton that is causing them to want to spend more and more time together. They have an obvious connection.
There’s a lot of grief not being dealt with very well in this story and that unfolds slowly but effectively. Harley is a wise-beyond-her-years young woman. I like how she pointed out things Gavin needed to recognize and deal with including his overbearing ex-mother in law. I loved her relationship with young Peyton. I also enjoyed Harley’s 2 sisters always being there for her and was glad their husbands were part of this story too. Family is very prevalent in this book. All of these characters are interesting and well thought out - as usual with Helena’s writing.
I suggest reading the first two books in this series to truly enjoy this one but it’s not absolutely necessary. An enjoyable read, a great set of characters and sweet, family centric, emotional, romantic stories to be sure.
I don't have kids so never quite know how accurate the portrayal of them is in books. The relationships between Harley and Peyton and Gavin and Peyton were super sweet, but were they realistic? Not sure... As ever there was a lot going on with the relationships in this and within Spark House. There were some frustrations with Harley and how she wouldn't tell her sisters her feelings. And how very understanding she was. All. The. Time. The woman was a saint. And of course there was the whole thing with Karen and how Gavin wouldn't deal with that nightmare situation. Urgh. But that's the whole point, we need that drama and no one is going to deal with or talk about these kinds of things until they're good and ready. And that's what makes the story interesting to read.
It pulled me in instantly and kept me engaged throughout. I just love this author's writing so much, and it's always so easy to read. I've also never read a book of hers I didn't like. I'm sad this is the final book in the series though. But it's been a while since I read the earlier books so I can look forward to a series re-read I guess.
