Make a Wish Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,042 ratings

With her signature charm and sense of humor, bestselling author Helena Hunting creates a novel about love, family, and second chances in Make a Wish.

Ever have a defining life moment you wish you could do over? Harley Spark has one. The time she almost kissed the widowed father of the toddler she nannied for. It was so bad they moved across the state and she never saw them again.

Fast forward seven years and she’s totally over it. At least she thinks she is. Until Gavin Rhodes and his adorable now nine-year-old daughter, Peyton, reappear at a princess-themed birthday party hosted by Spark House, Harley’s family’s event hotel. Despite trying to avoid the awkwardness of the situation, she can’t help but notice how unbearably sexy he looks in a tutu. Add to that a spontaneous hives breakout, and it’s clear she’s not even remotely over the mortification of her egregious error all those years ago.

Except Gavin seems oblivious to her inner turmoil. So much so that he suggests they get together for lunch. For Peyton’s sake, of course. It’s the perfect opportunity to heal old wounds. Or it could just reopen them. This is one of those times Harley wishes she could see the future…

The third and final instalment in the Spark House series focuses on the youngest Spark sister, Harley. This story weaves a complicated mix of the past and the present, memories and guilt, friendship, chemistry and attraction which shows that Helena Hunting sure knows how to write one hell of an emotional contemporary romance.

What starts out as any normal day for Harley quickly changes… One moment she’s hosting a princess-themed birthday party at Spark house, the next she’s reunited with her former boss, Gavin, and his now nine year old daughter, Peyton. She worked for Gavin as Peyton’s nanny after his wife died in childbirth, until Peyton was about eighteen months old and the family unexpectedly moved out of town. After being away for so long they all reconnect and after some initial awkwardness between Harley and Gavin an easy friendship forms. Gavin starts to feel a little less alone, starts to feel like maybe happiness isn’t out of reach for him anymore. Harley obviously feels confused about it all but the truth is that there were feelings that existed before that have re-emerged. They have a uniquely shared bond. They have a history together but does this mean that they will have a future?

Yay for the final Spark sister, Harley.

This is I think my favourite of the series, full of emotion and glitter.

From an almost-thing to years down the track, Harley and Gavin will have your heart soaring - add in his daughter and you won't be able to stop smiling.

I liked how Harley finally stood up to her sisters about things (it irked me before how they dismissed her so much) and also goes for the guy she always liked. It just with Gavin didn't take so long to tell some Karen's to shove it hahah.

Good to see the rest of the guys and gals from the series and where their relationships are at, and some time with some people from other series by Helena Hunting,

I really just liked this one. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy

This was a great story. Peyton really steals the show, but I really liked Harley and Gavin too. This kind of story makes you realise the grief that many families face from unexpected tragedies. There were lots of fun and cute moments in this one, and while it was maybe a little bit too long, the story played out well. I enjoyed this and would recommend.

It was nice to go back to Spark House and visit with these girls again. London is married with a daughter of her own and Avery is expecting her first. But this story is all about Harley and the man that never left her thoughts for long, the single dad whom she was a nanny for his daughter Peyton. The story centres mostly on the friendship to relationship and also the happenings at Stark House and the new franchise that the sisters are building together.

After Gavin lost his wife giving birth to Peyton, he thought his world had collapsed, he was devastated losing the love of this love. His emotions were all over the place because that was also the day when his precious little girl came into his life, and now it's mainly just the two of them. It was why he hired a nanny to help him navigate those first years. Then things changed and he and Peyton moved to be closer to his in laws. In the years he was gone, Harley matured and went to work with her sisters at Spark House and this is where they bump into each other again after seven years.

If you are worried that this story will be super sad and overly dramatic with part of the storyline, don't fear. It is not an angsty book at all. I would say it is a slow and steady romance, building trust to an everlasting relationship. Yes they have to navigate the sad loss of his wife and how do they move forward from that as well as having a nine year old daughter. Not that Peyton is a handful, she's adorable, it's more that they don't get as much alone time as other new couples would. This book probably took way longer than I normally read, and that's on me, but it was the perfect book for me to read over these holidays. I could pick it up at any time and not feel like I was lost or had to go back and re read a chapter to remember where I was. It's what I would classify a good vacation novel.

Make a Wish is just so amazing. I loved this one so much. It is my favorite of the Spark House books. This is a nanny romance with a twist. This is Harley's book and you are going to love it. Harley feels left out on everything as things are changing and her role keeps changing in the Spark House business. Harley is fantastic with kids and super creative. I adore her to pieces. Gavin is a widowed single father who has moved back in town with his now nine year old daughter Peyton. Gavin is trying to do everything he can for Peyton. I love the reconnection of Gavin, Peyton and Harley so much. Harley and Peyton are adorable together. Gavin and Harley have this beautiful love that is not without struggle. This one will make you laugh and will bring you to tears at times. I love the emotional side of this one. I love how patient Harley is with Gavin when it comes to how he fights his ghosts. This is such an amazingly beautiful read that I could not put down. I loved every moment of this one. You need to read this one now.

The final book in this wonderful series about the Sparks girls. We learn more about Avery and Declan. London and Jackson develop, but the main characters are Harley the youngest sister and Gavin. A single widower with a daughter that came into the world the day his wife Marcie died. The story is obviously emotional and covers a lot of relationship feelings, and the process of grief, loss and life. However it is very delicately and sensitively written, with enough cover not to get morkish or over sensitive. Harley starts out as Gavin’s nanny for Peyton hugs daughter. Unfortunately a moment occurs and to say Gavin has the ostrich moment is an understatement, as this is repeated by all in the book who have lost their wife and daughter Marcie. Without ruining it anymore for the reader I shall stop. It is well written. Peyton is a delightful character and at times possible a little young for her 9 years but still adorable. All children at that age develop at different levels. A great series with a fabulous HEA , for all.

Harley Spark is an adult-kid. Oxymoronic? Maybe. Let me clarify. Harley is a grown-up who not only understands kids, she thinks like one. She gets inside their heads and they instinctively trust her. Her attitude says, it's okay to be you and act your age. No one will make fun of you. In fact, Harley is more likely to join in the fun. And her free-wheeling attitude is infectious, affecting even the most staid and proper in her orbit.

It all began several years ago when Harley, at age nineteen, took on the role of nanny for Gavin Rhodes' infant daughter Peyton, whose her mother died in childbirth. But when Peyton was almost two, Gavin abruptly took his baby girl and moved them to Boulder, ostensibly to be closer to his in-laws. They just up and left with no explanation. Not even a goodbye. But Harley knew the real reason they left. She never hear a word from Gavin and she knew it was all her fault.

It's now seven years later and Harley is trying to figure out where she fits in the family business with her two sisters as they finalize plans to franchise the Spark House brand and open new locations. Her forte has been children's birthday parties which is where she runs into Gavin and now nine year old Peyton.

Harley is stunned at the memories and regrets Gavin's  reappearance evokes and conversely the strong connection with Peyton that remains. Yet Gavin appears to have no qualms about asking her to join them for lunch. Harley grabs the opportunity to make amends for her slip up and put it to bed in her mind so that she can let go of her regrets. Considering her expectations, it's a good thing that Harley doesn't have a crystal ball.

Helena Hunting is high on my list of favorite authors and her fresh approach to the single father dedicated to his child's happiness trope is one of the many reasons. Thorough character development and quirky twists to what would otherwise be just another romance novel are two more reasons I am so fond of Hunting's writing. "Make a Wish" is full of warmth and maybe a bit heavy on the angst but still an all around fun read as the final book in her 'Spark House' trilogy. Four stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Urgh, you made me cry again...

For some reason I hadn't gotten around to reading this even though I'd had it in my kindle for a while so I finally started reading it last night. And stayed up til 3 or 4am reading. Then read more on my lunch break and throughout the afternoon... finally finishing it tonight with full on tears and sniffles thanks to that damn epilogue.

I don't have kids so never quite know how accurate the portrayal of them is in books. The relationships between Harley and Peyton and Gavin and Peyton were super sweet, but were they realistic? Not sure... As ever there was a lot going on with the relationships in this and within Spark House. There were some frustrations with Harley and how she wouldn't tell her sisters her feelings. And how very understanding she was. All. The. Time. The woman was a saint. And of course there was the whole thing with Karen and how Gavin wouldn't deal with that nightmare situation. Urgh. But that's the whole point, we need that drama and no one is going to deal with or talk about these kinds of things until they're good and ready. And that's what makes the story interesting to read.

It pulled me in instantly and kept me engaged throughout. I just love this author's writing so much, and it's always so easy to read. I've also never read a book of hers I didn't like. I'm sad this is the final book in the series though. But it's been a while since I read the earlier books so I can look forward to a series re-read I guess.

Make a Wish was the book I was most excited for in this series so I was excited to finally get to it. While I did enjoy a lot about this one, I would say that it was not my favorite of the series like I expected. It started off strong and I did enjoy a lot about this book, but the non communication between Gavin and his in-laws, they way that Harley's sisters dismissed her regarding the business, and the instalove was too much for me. I really liked Harley as the FMC, I've really liked her throughout the series and overall I am happy to see her get her HEA , and I love that she found that with a single dad. I enjoy the single dad trope, but I did not really care for Gavin. Between him not setting boundaries for his mother in law, and being so uncompromising in his relationship with Harley he was just not it for me. I enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous books, and was happy to see how this series came to an end. I've read several books from this author and I will be reading more.
