Russia outpaces world’s advanced armies in new weapon development, says security chief

According to Nikolay Patrushev, advanced armaments and military hardware are arriving for the Russian troops in a planned manner

MOSCOW, June 2. /TASS/. Russia frequently outpaces many advanced armies of the world in developing new weapons, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolay Patrushev said in an interview with the government’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily on Thursday.

"In developing new weapon systems, we frequently outpace many advanced armies of the world that have far greater spending potential," the security chief said on the occasion of the Russian Security Council’s 30th anniversary.

Advanced armaments and military hardware are arriving for the Russian troops in a planned manner. State-of-the-art strategic missile systems are on combat alert and the number of strike aircraft platforms is on the rise along with ships carrying long-range precision weapons, Patrushev stressed.

The issues of running, reforming and developing the defense industry are in the focus of the Security Council’s attention, he pointed out.

"First of all, this applies to rocket and missile engineering, ship- and aircraft-building, radio-electronics, the industry of conventional armaments, ammunition, technical retooling and upgrade of production capacities," the top security official said.

The defense industry cannot operate in a stable and efficient manner without the development of domestic machine-tool building, materials engineering, the electronic components base, the substitution of imported hi-tech products, the introduction of digital technologies and the expansion of civil and dual-purpose output, Patrushev emphasized.
