The specs for the Galaxy Z Fold4—Samsung's upcoming flagship foldable phone—have leaked in full, and they point to a pretty minor update over last year's model.Among the highlights are some slightly upgraded cameras and a faster processor, but other key specs like the display size and battery capacity look set to remain untouched. And there will still be a crease in the screen. Let's take a closer look.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Specs, Revealed

The details come via the leaker Yogesh Brar, who has a solid track record for these things, so it's fair to assume they're pretty accurate.

The main differences compared to the Fold3 are said to be:

  • An upgraded CPU, the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
  • An option for 16GB of RAM (although the base model will have 12GB as before)
  • The main camera jumps to 50MP from 12MP
  • The zoom camera has increased range—up from 2x to 3x
  • The under-display selfie camera gets a bump to 16MP from 4MP

But a lot of the new model looks set to be the same as before. This includes the 7.6-inch inner display and 6.2-inch outer display, both with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Perhaps most crucially, the battery looks like it will remain at 4400mAh. While we can expect greater efficiency from the new processor, battery life was a weak point of the Z Fold3 and many potential buyers would have hoped for an upgrade here.

Charging speed remains at a not particularly fast 25W, and there's no mention of wireless charging, although that's unlikely to be removed.

Will the Galaxy Z Fold4 Have a Crease?

The specs suggest that the Z Fold4 will be more of an incremental update rather than a great leap forward for Samsung's foldable range. Yet the specs aren't the most important thing here, as all eyes will be on the screen. Or, more specifically, the crease down the middle of the screen, caused by the folding mechanism.

But there's possible bad news here, too. Another renowned leaker suggests that the crease remains on the new model, albeit slightly less obvious than before.

But with other companies already selling creaseless foldables, like Oppo's Find N, Samsung risks falling behind if it can't solve the problem soon.

The Fold4 and Flip4 Are Set to Launch in August 2022

The Galaxy Z Fold4 is expected to launch alongside its sister device, the Z Flip4. We don't know much about that phone yet, other than it will have the same processor as the Fold4, and is expected to find room for a larger battery than its predecessor.

There's no word on how much either phone will cost, but we don't have long to wait. Samsung's new generation of foldable phones is expected to launch in August 2022.
