When the lead singer of my rock band sets his sights on a pretty waitress, I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she doesn’t get in the way of our dreams.

Only, my plan unravels when she accidentally spills her darkest secrets to me one night, triggering a profound connection neither of us saw coming.

And when those dark secrets come back to haunt her, threatening more than just the new life she’s built for herself, I’m the one she runs to.

I know I should run the other way—I’m a single father who’s been burned before.

Not to mention, she’s my front man’s girl.

But in my crusade to drive her away, I fell for her instead, and now, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe… whether she’s mine, or not.

Jennifer Hartmann resides in northern Illinois with her own personal romance hero and three children. When she is not writing angsty love stories, she is likely pondering all the ways she can break your heart and piece it back together again. She enjoys sunsets (because mornings are hard), bike riding, traveling, bingeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns, and that time of day when coffee gets replaced by wine. She loves tacos. She also really, really wants to pet your dog.

There is a special place in h*^l for female authors that basically hate their own sex and don’t bother warning people when they decide to veer off into comets and total bs in their books. Let’s start here. Just a warning, the next book picks up over 6 years in the future with Noah who moved on and has married another woman, has not 1 but 3 children with her and is happy until his wife is murdered. We have a completely stagnant Chelsea, who is so mournful over the loss of her true love that she can’t stand to even kiss other men. Do I really need to go on? It’s been 6 years. She can’t stand to touch other men, while he is happily married with kids by someone else. I am so tired of having to pre screen and ruin every single book that I read to avoid crap like this. If you want to write complete and total crap and have couples split up for near a decade for no reason (and again the hero is happy, the heroine is miserable and lonely) then just be honest about it in your description. No one deserves to purchase this for $5, and waster their valuable time to only find out that they were hoodwinked. Be ashamed of your work and hide everything in the summery (tricking people into purchasing) or be honest and proud but possibly earn less sales... What’s more important, integrity or profit? I hope I helped! I can’t even give an opinion on this the actual plot to this novel, because I was tricked into buying it. This isn’t what I signed up for, a definite return and an author to AVOID!!!!

I am so impressed that this is Jennifer Hartmann's debut novel. I've devoured many of her books this year and I want to get to them all because I truly love her writing. Aria was captivating and unputdownable. It was also super angsty, stressful, and messy. The ending left me feeling so conflicted and I'm curious as to what will happen in the second part of this duet.

I was going to read something lighter after this, but I'm jumping straight into Coda because I absolutely HAVE to know what happens next! I think many angst lovers will love this, but it did have something I don't love in books .

2,5 🤔🤔🌟s❗️

Congratulations to the author for her debut novel!
Despite my rating, I have to acknowledge her writing was very good, the plot was multilayered, had drama and passion, was intriguing and emotional. There were so much more going on, that the blurb could not possibly reveal!

However, this story managed to frustrate me a lot and in the end I didn’t enjoy it.
To be more specific, most of my issues were about the heroine, Chelsie, and her actions/decisions. She wasn’t truthful to herself, neither to the others.
She started dating Devon, the lead singer of the band, but later during their relationship, she started having feelings for Noah, the guitarist of the band. Instead of coming forward and be honest, she kept dating Devon but she shared more with Noah because they had become friends. Her traumatic and harsh past, details from her life, she even spent more tome with him rather with Devon. Whatever problem she had, Noah was the first she would run to.

The story had a lot of turns, I will not say anything more, you might want to read it.

This book was definitely not for me, and not for you Anna Valsa, and I won’t read the last of this duet.

**Author's Note**

This duet was originally published in April and May of 2020, being my debut series as an author. These two books have since been remastered into first person point of view to match the voice of my other works, and to stay consistent with the more conventional writing style of the contemporary romance genre. While major plotlines and character arcs remain the same, many areas of the story have been fleshed out, and a few bonus scenes have been added. This is not a full rewrite. It’s more like a polishing of a preexisting story. This romance has always remained close to my heart, so I wanted to give it a second chance to shine. ♡

This book totally drew me in!

I was very invested in Chelsie and Noah's story and loved the enemies to lovers slowburn. Their interactions definitely leapt off the page.

If you love emotion-driven, intense, romantic stories, I HIGHLY recommend checking this one out.

You know when you read a book and you blink and it’s over and it’s been 4 and a half hours? Me with this book. The angst. The longing. The pining. THE DRAMA. My heart is shattered.

I adored this so much. Aria is about Chelsie and her world-wind rockstar romance with the front man…and how she falls for his best friend and band mate, Noah.

I haven’t read many best friend’s girls romances but when I tell you this delivered on the angst I mean it.

In addition to the romance, there is also a suspense subplot that had me in a chokehold.

I need book 2 immediately because I’m so angry and heartbroken!!!!

The original was an awesome storyline but this updated one makes it so much better. Of course Jennifer Hartmann just seems to get better with every book she writes. Aria & Coda update is no different. Didnt think this series could get any better but omgoodness was I wrong. Think I will be rereading this series again at some point.

If you want a page turner, this is the one! Once you start reading this book, you won't be able to put it down! I carried it around in my purse, read it while doing laundry and in the passenger seat of my car. I love that the author opened up about Chelsie's past. For me, that is one of the most important things that an author can do. Making the reader feel a connection to the main character is the key to creating a great love story. This author nailed it! I may have slammed the book shut and tossed it onto the table a few times, frustrated with Chelsie and Noah, but of course, this only lasted a few minutes before I was nose deep back into their story again. Tears were shed, happy and sad and I am pretty sure that my husband thought that I had lost my ever loving mind, when he would catch me talking out loud, "No, that did not just happen!" The ending of this book had me upset and frustrated. No, it just couldn't be? Jennifer Hartmann knows what she is doing. She breathes life into the characters that she creates and pours her heart and soul into their story, that before you started reading it, didn't exist. I downloaded Coda before even shutting this book. Chelsie and Noah's love story will always hold a special place in my heart.

I don't do a lot of reviews. But when I read gems like this, I have to. To start with, its hard to believe that this is Mrs. Hartmann's debut novel. That she's never written before. I'm usually hesitant to read debuts without more books behind them. But I feel she will go far.

This book is about Chelsea Combs, a waitress trying to forget her dark and horrible past. My heart went out to Chelsea because I too have been there. Jennifer handles the subject matter in a very respectful and delicate manner too. I didn't exactly agree with some of Chelsea's decisions, but they didnt make me dislike her character. I really want her to have her HEA, she deserves it.

Noah, at first I did not like him. What he did to try and sabotage his band mate and Chelsea's budding relationship was so wrong for me. But then we get to know Noah. And the way he bonds with Chelsea and becomes a good friend for her melts my cold heart towards him. Noah with his father was always good scenes to read. I loved little Sam too. I loved how protective Noah became over Chelsea.

I can't say much more without spoiling the book. This book had me in tears. Yes, it does have a duet to it and I cannot wait to read the rest of Chelsea's life. I'm also impressed with how quickly Jennifer got the 2nd book out. Many authors make fans wait a year or so for the continuation novels, but she got the 2nd one out fairly quickly. If you want romance without the constant sex details, suspense, some comedy, a cute child, hot men then i highly recommend reading this book. I finished it in 3 days. If I didn't have to work, it would have been sooner. I am now a fan.

I’m actually struggling to write this review. While I absolutely loved the book the last couple of chapters drove me up a wall and made me want to cry and set my book on fire at the same time. From the very start I was pulled in and I finished it as fast as I could. I’m very impatiently waiting on the second book to be released so that I can hopefully get the ending I need. All in all this book has completely emotionally destroyed me and I recommend it.

Summary
Chelsie Combs is a young woman with attitude to spare and a job she hates. At least her waitressing gig allows her to be self-sufficient. She values her independence because she has fought for it. After the trauma she suffered she does not want to be reliant on men. Yet it is hard to resist the rock god, Devon Sawyer, when he sets his sights on her.

Noah Hayes, Freeze Frame’s guitarist, despises Chelsie at first sight. It could have been the star struck expression she wore when she met the band’s lead singer, Devon. Or perhaps it was the look in Devon’s eyes whenever they landed on Chelsie’s gorgeous body and stunning face. Either way, Chelsie Combs is a distraction the band does not need, and Noah is determined to sabotage all prospects of romance for Devon and Chelsie.

But neither Chelsie nor Noah are prepared for the chemistry that develops between them as their own friendship sparks to life. And matters are further complicated when Chelsie’s abusive ex shows up.

Note: this description applies to book 1, while the review relates to both books. I have not included a summary of book 2 in the interest of avoiding spoilers.

Review
Jennifer Hartmann has done an exceptional job of delving into the psyche of a broken woman and the challenges she overcomes to find love again. It took a little while for the characters to develop, but by the time s**t got real they were all believable, three-dimensional people, although not all of them were likeable, but that’s life yeah?

The story was well paced and filled with good doses of tension. I was impressed by how well Hartmann employs foreshadowing while still throwing in some great plot twists. These books are so much more than a romance. In addition to all the action and drama, they explore friendship and family as well as the relationship we have with ourselves.

I loved Hartmann’s descriptive writing style with added wit and humour. The few erotic scenes she included were beautiful and touching in all the right ways. For a romance novel to get five stars from me, it needs to connect with me emotionally. The Duet series did just that. I laughed, I swooned, and I most definitely cried.
The Duet Series is a slow-burn romance full of suspense and intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books and would highly recommend them to all lovers of romance and suspense. That said, it is worth noting Hartmann’s trigger warnings: “Talk of past rape and on-page assault.”

Absolutely beautiful! Jennifer Hartmann knows how to write a book that tugs at your heart strings and make you feel ever single emotion that the characters are feeling.

Aria follows a girl named Chelsie who was working at a waitress at an establishment where a very well known band was playing. There is a connection between her and the singer, and she is invited to a party with the band, where she meets the other members, including Noah, who is rude and obnoxious, and will do anything to make sure Chelsie doesn't screw up what the band has going. That is until one night, Chelsie accidentally spills her heart out to Noah, and tells him her darkest secret, that only a few people know. Now, he is the only one she can turn to when her darkest secret comes back to haunt her.

When I say I couldn't put this book down, I mean it! It was so good and it made me stay up all night to finish it! Even after I finished it, I couldn't sleep because I couldn't stop thinking about the story and the characters in it. Aria was written so beautifully and with so much emotion, that I could feel every thing that the characters were feeling. I laughed with them. I cried with them. My heart ached for them. I also wanted to smack Chelsie a few times, and then turn around and hug her. To say it was a roller coast of emotions is an understatement. Even though this is a romance, it is so much more than that. It is about being who you are, and learning to love yourself, even if that means, losing everything.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone, even if you don't think that you enjoy romance. I can not wait to read Coda, and get back into the world of Chelsie and Noah.

**Trigger warning: There is mention of past abuse and rape. There is also a scene where an assault is actively happening. **

Aria

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I love bad boy band members and how each guy has a distinct persona. Devon was the sexy frontman with Noah on the sidelines. Chelsie and Devon have a hot and heavy relationship from the get go. And she and Noah have a loathing for one another. But you know what they say about love and hate. This ending caught me by surprise. That rarely happens. Curious about the next book in this series.

Honestly, I feel so conflicted and don’t really know what to rate this book. I loved Noah and Chelsie though ~ starcrossed lovers.

”Maybe love was clearing snow off someone’s car in the middle of the night, just to make their life easier.”

I adored Noah the most in this book. He is one of the best male love interests to date and everything he did for Chelsie melted my heart. He was just trying to do his best and learning to let down his walls for her and i loved him. Plus, him & Sam!!! Single dad musicians FTW.

I liked Chelsie a lot but I had a hard time with her because of how wishy-washy her character was with communication — she was the main reason why the story dragged on and on. The problem is…you can’t fault her for that because she never had the chance to process her trauma from her abusive relationship and so her insecurities and dependencies are all traced back to that, which makes total sense.

I think, at the end of the day, the pacing became a big issue for me…sigh

I’m also a smidge frustrated at the massive time jump for the next book but…once again…Chelsie needed the time to step back and heal and love herself so. AHHH THE CONFLICT.

I know a LOT of people will love this duet.

BIG TWs for abusive relationships (ex-BF - on page attack and mentions of past attacks/rape), drugs, and an off-page OD

Final note: so happy for Rosa & Paco

I was able to snag this book because the author joined my facebook group that I manage. And she will be doing a live soon so I wanted to make sure to get it read by then.

Well I can tell you I'm glad I was able to (sorta) meet her. Haha I loved this book. I've even lost sleep because I didnt want to stop reading it. I caught myself yelling at my kindle because Chelsie was making me mad for her decisions. But then you understood her reasons. That made me understand.

This book was written beautifully. And it's not your average romance story. It was more than that. I felt their feelings. Their sadness, their longing, and their compassion. I just absolutely adored this book and I can not wait till the last book. And I look forward to more books from this lovely beautiful woman!

I can’t read a book where one of the main characters are dating another person and the main characters spend the majority of the book apart. It just makes no sense reading a romance novel where I have to read romantic scenes between the heroine with another dude. As I hate seeing their love growing while they’re with other people.

I don't know where to start. I'm at a loss for words. I think this may be the best book I've read all year. And it's a debut novel, so it has me stoked to read the rest of her work.

For right now this is all I'm writing as I work on a longer, more thorough review because Aria deserves more than a few sentences.

Stayed tuned.

Slow burn like you've never burned before. I'm talking about hearts being roasted alive on a smouldering pit of sentiments till all turns to dust.
Readers & characters alike. Hartmann is infamous for writing stories that blow a hole in your heart, but this one simply takes the cake.

"You said we were a duet, and I wish I could be your second half. I wish I could be a part of your perfect duet. But I’m an aria. I am meant to fly alone. "

Chelsie. Combs is a down and depressed waitress who meets handsome Devin Sawyer on one of those days in the club.
She hands him water when his band Freeze Frames is playing and he steals her heart. but their romantic fairy tale has a big Thorn right in the middle that pierces deep into their side.

"Noah Hayes. The tattooed, foul-mouthed, cigarette-smoking Freeze Frame guitarist".

Oh boy. This love hurts so bad. It burns like tip of the cigarette scalding into the skin.
It smoulders like lava does just beneath the hardened surface in a volcano.
It threatens to blow apart their world.
Pure and simple annihilation is what ensues.

"My rock star boyfriend was still a star, but he was no longer my rock. What if I just needed to try harder to bring him back to life? What if there was still hope for him to change?"

Aria flies solo and I weep like a motherfecker !!
It's not for the faint of the heart, this story will make you ugly cry and bawl your eyes out

This was not what expected and I’m not sure what to say. I wish all of the good in the world to first time authors, I just wished that I had had some warning about what this book was really about? I love new author novels and I took this books premise to heart when I read it. I am used to honest authors and thought I knew what I was buying. This book is not what was described. It turns from one thing into something completely different in less than 300 pages. This author seems to think that she did something raw and creative, but in all actuality it is a fake and “romance novel trope” as you can get. It’s not even the cute sweet kind that you can at least take at face value. No, this combines all of the cliche drama filled tropes that we all may chose as a guilty pleasure (or barely tolerate) but in a completely pathetic, sad, over the top, this could never actually be any kind of real life type of way. We have “single dad”, “rockstar”, ”second chance”, “dead wife”, “who donit?” “celibate /pining heroine”, “ex’s best friend”, “martyr” And probably a few others that I just can’t keep up with... it’s all just so over the top, that there was no way to actually enjoy this series. Pick something and stick with it, please? I was just exhausted trying to remember the cliched tropes, let alone anything else. The poor heroine is devastated and confused at the end of this book. The heroine tried to be strong and give the hero permission to replace her, while begging in her mind to actually be deserving of being irreplaceable. Unfortunately the “hero” just didn’t love her enough. I tried so hard, but this booknis just impossible. If nothing else after become almost semi-attached to our heroine, I had to read the last few chapters where over and over again he professed his love for the woman that he replaced her with. He was completely in love with this new woman. He ran into the heroine pretty quickly after she had tried to give him a little time because she loved him so much that she had to put him first, (if I did the math correctly it was maybe a few months between the heroine and when he met his true love) but anyway, he had already replaced her with a new wife (his true love) and child. She was so in love with him that she was loyal to him for many many years. She just couldn’t even bare to have another man even kiss her. Then his true love is murdered and he is left with his children needed a new mother and decides that she is good enough to come second to his true love and he decides to settle for her. Her self esteem is so low that that she actually thinks this is all that she deserves in this world. Such a tragedy all around! I just wish the author understood that throwing a bunch of sexist, cliches with impossible over the top drama doesn’t make a decent novel. Do better if you want to actually consider yourself an author, and not just someone who paid Amazon to publish her book. Anyone can get a few reads these days on Amazon these days. It take more than this sloppy writing. Have some self worth, and maybe don’t sell out your characters?

Gosh Jennifer Hartmann knows how to rip your heart out… and Aria (the first book in this amazing duet did.) what I though was going to be your typical Rockstar romance, with a single dad was so much more.

This story has my heart in a vice grip, my emotions were all over the place. This is a totally different feeling then the ones I’ve had from any of her other books.

This is the story of Chelsie and Noah. It’s enemy to love to best friends, rock star romance. These two will put you through the ringer, and by the end you won’t even know what to think. After finishing this one I needed to collect my emotions, I am so happy for the fact there is a second book, because I was a literal mess by the end.

Chelsie and Noah are the type of characters that their love is endless and one of a kind. The type of love that whoever comes before them will never compare and whoever comes after them won’t either. It’s infinite and beautiful. Their road isn’t an easy one, you will want to shake our two main characters multiple times throughout, but you will love them either way… they were truly selfless.

This story I think hit me so hard because I didn’t see any of it coming. I won’t be giving any spoilers, but I was about to throw my kindle by the end of book one. About to contemplate what the meaning of everything is. I’m so happy there is a second book because I’m ready to be whole again.

I did struggle with my star rating on this one due to various personal reasons, but the story itself is the reason for my rating… it’s no secret that this author can write and make us feel things no one else can.
