Lucky Chance

Second Chance Harbor Series, Book 3

He's grumpy and I radiate sunshine. But I can't get him out of my head.

Colton Castle and I are nothing alike. He's a gruff police officer who only seems to see the worst in people. I'm the free spirit who believes there's good in everyone.

When there’s trouble in my neighborhood, he’s everywhere I turn, looking sexy in his uniform. I start to see a different side of him. He's protective and caring. And makes my heart race.

There's a problem: he's my sister's ex, which means he's completely off limits. He seems just as determined as me to ignore the connection. Yet the back-and-forth banter between us feels a lot like foreplay, and I’ve become addicted to the rush.

Except I want love and a family. Why am I drawn to someone who doesn't want the same thing?

The irritation I felt for him over the past few years had morphed into something far more dangerous—attraction. I told myself it was a silly crush, leftover from childhood when my older sister was dating him. But it felt like more.

His fingers massaging the muscles of my shoulders awakened my body. I wanted his hands everywhere.

Colton was too serious and uptight for me. He wouldn’t agree to something purely physical, would he? But since he left for college, I didn’t know anything about him.

I didn’t know why he dropped out of college to enlist or why he broke things off with my sister. As much time as he spent at my house growing up, he was a mystery to me.

Remembering how intense he’d been massaging my shoulders, how hard his body felt under mine, my core clenched at the idea of him focusing all his intense energy on pleasing me.

On Friday, I gave in and called him.

“Officer Castle.” His voice was crisp.

“So formal. Is that how you always answer the phone?” I practically purred.

Who was this sex kitten, and where had she come from?

There was silence on the other end of the call, and I worried I’d pushed Colton too far.

“Depends on who’s calling,” he said.

I hadn’t expected Colton to play along. “I was thinking I need some help with my recipes, and you could use some help relaxing.”

I wanted him here, but the offer to help him in return? I didn’t know where that came from. Other than I wanted to see him lose that carefully tethered control. I shivered at the idea of him unleashing it on me.

Before he could respond, I added, “I was having trouble coming up with the winning combination of whey protein and fruit.”

“I can help you with that.”

I smiled. “That’s what I was hoping.”

“And you’ll help me relax?”

Excited at the prospect, I said, “You need to let loose. Have some fun.

“And you’re the woman to help me do that?” His voice was lighter than usual.

“I can be a lot of fun, Officer Castle.”

I was thinking about taking him out, maybe even introducing him to yoga and a little meditation, but I wouldn’t be averse to some action in the bedroom—or on my juice counter. Too bad my storefront was one large window facing the street.

Standing behind the counter, I ran a hand over the cool surface. If we’d kissed the other night, would it have gone further? Would Colton have dropped to his knees, slid my panties to the side, and put his mouth on my pussy?

“I need your assistance drinking my juices.” I tipped my head back so I was staring at the ceiling. Well, that had an unintended double entendre. I was so bad. Very, very bad.

There was silence, then a booming laugh.

A smiled curved over my lips. I felt lighter than when I finished a good session of meditation. My mind felt clear, and I was one-hundred percent focused on Colton. When the sound of his laugh died down, I said, “Who knew Colton Castle had a sense of humor?”

“Only when it comes to you.” His response was quick and full of affection.

“I can work with that.” I liked that I might be different for him. Someone special.

Delilah always got the good guys, the ones who stuck around. Why couldn’t I have a guy like that for me, even if it were only for a short time?

“What did you have in mind, Remi?”

I loved the smooth, velvet sound of my name on his lips. “There’s a yoga class I’d love to check out. It’s at a rose farm. I might see if they want to partner together. See if they want my juice.”

My face heated. I couldn’t say juice anymore without thinking of Colton licking mine.

“Yoga?”

“You’ve done yoga before, right?”

He cleared his throat. “Yeah, no.”

Of course not. The growly cop wouldn’t do anything that would make him appear less manly, would he?

“I’m not very flexible.”

“It’s all those tight muscles.” Those who ran or lifted heavy weights usually weren’t as bendy.

“You took notice of my body, Rem?” His voice was a low rumble in my chest.

I liked it a little too much. My fingers tapped a rhythm on the counter. “It’s hard to miss.”

He made a sound that sounded like he was choking. When he recovered, he asked, “When is this class?”

“Tomorrow at ten. I’ll pick you up?” I loved the idea of the burly cop folding himself into my tiny car.

“Yeah, no. I’ll pick you up in my truck. There’s more space.”

“You don’t think you’ll fit in my car?” The thought of Colton in my tiny bug was laughable.

“Oh, I’ll fit.” His voice was low and rumbly.

And I knew he wasn’t talking about my car.  “I didn’t know you were capable of sexual innuendos.”

“There’s a lot you don’t know about me.”

I squeezed my thighs together at his insinuation that I might find out. “I look forward to getting to know the man under the badge—and that tight uniform.”

Did he let go with his bed partners, or did he retain control? Would he play my body until I was strung tight, Unraveling me at the perfect moment? Or would he savor every response, memorizing it for later?

I barely restrained the groan that wanted to erupt from my throat. I was so far gone, I couldn’t remember why I’d called him in the first place.

“I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”

I’d almost hung up when he added, “And Remi? Please don’t wear that lace top.”

“You liked it?” I thought so, but I wanted him to admit it.

“If you wear it in public, I won’t be able to control myself.”

“What if I want you out of control?” I couldn’t help but tease him. I loved this new side he was showing. A little relaxed, a lot worked up—for me—and willing to step outside of his comfort zone.

“We’re in trouble, then.”

“You did say I was trouble.”

“That you are, Remi Lennox.”

“See you tomorrow, Officer Castle.” I drew out his name before ending the call. Bracing my hands on the counter, I gave myself over to the fantasy of Colton exploring my body, maybe even licking juice off it.

Relaxing Colton was a new goal of mine. One I didn’t even know I had. I’d enjoy forcing him outside of his comfort. Opening him up to the idea of letting go and clearing his mind.

When I climbed into bed that night, the image of Colton on his knees behind the counter of my juice shop, licking my pussy, returned. Grabbing my vibrator, I was screaming his name within thirty seconds. If the thought of him going down on me rung an orgasm out of me at a record pace, what would the reality be like? I didn’t think I’d survive it.
