Huawei’s HarmonyOS 3 is finally here after several months of the company teasing its release. HarmonyOS is Huawei’s in-house operating system aiming to tackle Android, especially in the Chinese market. HarmonyOS provides cross-platform functionality for other Huawei IoT, tablet, and wearable devices.

Huawei announced the latest upgrade in October 2021, but the company delayed the scheduled rollout. We now have confirmation that HarmonyOS 3 is finally available. Read on as we detail all you need to know about the brand-new Huawei HarmonyOS 3.

What to Expect In HarmonyOS 3

HarmonyOS is the unified operating system that allows different Huawei devices to work together seamlessly. The third generation of HarmonyOS provides developers with over 6,000 available APIs to facilitate dynamic well-developed applications.

It also features the all-new Huawei ArkUI development framework, making life easier for developers. This also means HarmonyOS users can expect a significant UI upgrade when they eventually transition to HarmonyOS 3.

Another significant change in HarmonyOS 3 will be the increased performance of the system kernel, allowing lower battery consumption and an enhanced overall user experience.

Additionally, bloatware apps that hampered device performance in HarmonyOS 2 are expected to be removed. HarmonyOS 3 will also revamp the popular Super Device feature to provide better functionality.

When Is HarmonyOS 3 Getting Released?

While Huawei HarmonyOS 3 was announced at the Huawei Developer Conference towards the end of 2021, the beta version has only just been released. At the time of writing, the closed beta version of HarmonyOS 3 is currently available to developers only. The stable release of HarmonyOS 3 is expected around September 2022.

While there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Huawei with a confirmed list of compatible devices, we expect the major flagship devices to receive the update. The Huawei Mate Xs, P50, and P40 series, along with the Mate 40 series, should all be compatible with HarmonyOS 3.

Will HarmonyOS 3 Be Available for Global Consumers?

HarmonyOS is Huawei’s primary smartphone OS in China, but it continues to focus on EMUI as its primary smartphone operating system globally. As such, Huawei could still change its distribution strategy for HarmonyOS 3 once we get closer to the release of the stable version.
