SAS files for bankruptcy protection in the US

  • Scandinavian airline SAS filed for so-called Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States today, a decision announced less than a day after the start of a SAS pilots strike.

  • The move will allow the airline to go through financial restructuring while it continues to operate.

  • SAS CEO Anko van der Werff said the filing was not linked to the strike but that it had accelerated the airline's decision.
