Wolf would sacrifice his life to save hers, but would he have to?
Maeve was finally free. She might be on the run, but she was not in a six-by-six cell for something she didn’t do, which was all that mattered. Small spaces and too much quiet time were never good for someone like her. Addiction was a real thing, a disease that pulled on the very fabric of her being, and she found herself once more wanting to succumb to that tantalizing desire.
Unfortunately, her turn of good fortune wouldn’t last when she realized that a U.S. Marshall was hunting her, and not just any U.S. Marshall, but the best tracker they had. A Wolf. He was one of the sexiest and most frustrating men she’d ever met.
Can Maeve avoid Wolf’s capture, or will she fall harder than she’d ever imagined?
Wolf understood all too well what it meant not to fit in. He’d spent his life trying to blend two worlds, neither of which wanted him. After a devastating loss, he decided to join the army and embark on a new chapter of his life that he thought would heal old wounds. Little did he know his greatest pain was yet to come. Back home, he was now a U.S. Marshall and divided his time between apprehending fugitives by day and burying them for The Righteous by night.
When he was given the task to bring the fugitive Maeve in, he thought it was a simple ‘dead or alive’ order, one he’d done a million times. What he hadn’t bargained for was the beautiful-storm of a woman that would test him at every turn and catapult his simple world into a life and death race from an enemy neither one of them saw coming.
Will Wolf and Maeve find the calm in the storm, or will they be swept up and carried away by it?
Writing is not just a passion for me. It is a lifeline to my sanity.
I have always loved writing but suffer from severe dyslexia and short-term memory retention issues. I struggled in school while I worked every night on re-training my brain.
I was frequently treated like I would never succeed, and I found myself putting my love for writing on a shelf.
Even at the age of six, I found it easier to communicate with animals than people, which was a big reason why I was drawn to dressage horseback riding. I remained focused on my passion for riding until I had to step away from the competition world for personal reasons.
Today, my desire for writing and storytelling has been rekindled. I have published multiple books and will never let anyone or anything hold me back again. I am a proud romance author who offers my readers morally grey heroes, a ton of spice, epic journeys, and redemption stories. -Follow Your Dreams-
I struggled with this one. It saddens me to say that because up to this book the series has been perfect. I am not a slow burn type of person and this book literally has something happening between the couple only on the 80% mark. I hated. Also I really do like Wolf and Mauve independently but not together. I didn’t feel them, I didn’t ship them, I didn’t connect with them, I didn’t like them together. Another thing I didn’t like is the lack of action, while the other books in the series was packed with the action the main characters did as the vigilantes they are and showed us the cool side of helping people, this one was solely focus on Wolf capturing Mauve and than helping her, they play house the entire book. It was literally only them cooking, eating, taking care of the ranch, horses, cows, her lashing out and been a nonsense, her trying everything to have sex with him and him rejecting her, and it was really boring. I almost DNF a thousand times. I just didn’t because since it’s a series that have a connection throughout I wanted to know what was going on. I also hated that none of the other guys were part of this book, hated that he was boring enough to not even name his Hummer, he literally called his Hummer, Hummer. Unoriginal. The most interesting part of the book was the last 10%……. Sadly! Actually the only thing I really like in this book was DUKE 🐶
Sheesh! This series keeps getting better and better! Redemption in the Dark felt so original to the series. I love where BC went with it! Except she went THERE with it... WTH, I can't wait to read book 6!! Loved all the little Righteous breadcrumbs left for us!
I was captivated from start to finish. These two were destined to meet. Their life paths had to intersect, and man did they. Maeve is a bad ass who loses herself in the unhealthy of ways. She's on the run, framed for something she had no part in. Wolf is on her tail and plans to apprehend her. Easy peasy, right.... Well this sultry woman has other plans. He isn't ready for her. She's not ready for him as well. They bring out the worst and best in each other. Both live constantly with demons who take center stage in their personal nightmares.
I loved their slow spiral into the forbidden. It was so much fun to read. Passion, dirty talk and riding on a.... oh my! Holy heck this series! And DUDE!!!! A cliffhanger - what the hell!!!
Let's start here - have you read the previous books in the this series?... No? Go back! Just stop here, go back to book 1 and then come back.
But yes? Stop! Go and get a flask of tea (probably something stronger would be better 😏) then - I wish you luck my friend!
Wolf and Maeve's story is one that will have you on edge from start to finish. He has gotten two different orders from two different bosses but for the same thing - but what's he gonna do?... I don't think he knows!
He's this mysterious, dangerous, deep, soulful person who could bring you to your knees with one glimpse. There's something so special about him - for someone who can be surrounded by chaos and violence and sadness, he has such a calming aura about him and I absolutely adore him.
Then we have Maeve who just doesn't know what to be at! She knows what she should be doing but that girl has some big demons and she made my heart hurt. We get flashes of her past and it's not good, at all!
These two have this soul-deep connection, they truly belong together 💞 They're beautiful, sweet, s3xy, passionate people who are smokin' hot!
Has this review made any sense? Or helped you understand what the books about? Probably not! Are you looking for a series that will suck you in? For characters who you fall in love with? For a world surrounded by danger and so much angst that it will leave you dry-mouthed? Yet have humour from their quick-wit? An easy banter and the most adorable and crazy smart pup? Then this is it!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review - even though it probably doesn't help much!
Brooklyn Cross… Wolf is so… and when he just…with Maeve, mmhmm. And the way he rode that, oh boy! *fans myself* But when he wore that, and when he danced….just oh my YUM! He really knows how to handle a wild mustang. I’m just sayin’…
This is my favorite book from this series to date. Wolf and Maeve stole my heart. I laughed, I cried, and laughed and cried some more.
P.S. Wolf has just claimed all the spots on my Book Boyfriend List.
WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED?! I think my brain just exploded. I’ve been reading this series since the beginning and I was invested in Maeve & Wolf’s story just as deeply! (Possibly more?) Maeve and Wolf definitely do not have first meeting that anyone would call typical though, to be fair, their love story is not even close to typical either. Maeve is not only battling her own demons, on the run, and in the center of so many unanswered questions after being accused of something she knows she didn’t do. Wolf does not know what to make of this girl but, he sees something familiar in her and is drawn to her. He has had to deal with his own darkness and together they seem to find something in each other that they were missing. While this is a smidge of a slow burn, there is MORE than enough angst, action, and suspense to keep you on your toes! While I was really sucked in by the crazy moments, I also loved the quieter ones. Thank you, Brooklyn Cross for another Righteous book boyfriend that will occupy my brain!!!
🔥Quick Notes🔥 Dark Romance FMC has a difficult past, strong & badass AF though!!!! MMC is a veteran with demons of his own Age gap Little bit of forced proximity (sort of) Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger Dual POV There are some applicable TWs for this.
❤️🔥Ex-Military ❤️🔥Age Gap ❤️🔥Slow Burn ❤️🔥Fierce FMC ❤️🔥Opposites Attract
I loved this addition to the Righteous series! Wolf, our ex-military vigilante hero is so different from the others in the series. I loved him - period. He’s the strong steady type that only breaks for her. I loved his self control and the way he took on each new challenge without skipping a beat. His calm was so nice to read in contrast to the chaos surrounding them.
Our FMC Maeve - I loved her tenacity. She seems like this helpless woman, but is anything but 👏🏻 Her heart is so damaged but she still has this genuine kindness to her that I loved.
And I can’t not mention Duke, love when books include a dog 🐶💕
I enjoyed the little moments of them getting to know each other, and the calm understanding he has for her when she’s losing control melted me completely. There’s so much going on in this book, and I can’t wait for the next one!
Slow burns usually aren’t my jam, but there is so much sexual tension that it absolutely worked for me! The tension runs throughout the book, so it’s still a burn, and when they connect it burns hot as h€ll 🥵
As with all dark romance, do mind your triggers before diving in ❤️🩹
This series just gets better and better! All the interconnected back stories are just blowing my mind!!! I love it so much. Wolf is amazing, end of!!! Could there be a better book boyfriend? I don't think so. I really don't like slow burns but this one didn't phase me. The chemistry between Wolf and Maeve was beautiful. I loved all the indigenous inclusion as well! These characters worm their way into your heart and minds. That ending crushed me, I need answers!!! It was not ok to end this on a cliffy. I cannot wait for the next books, there is still so much we don't know! I need to start all over at the beginning now, to make sure I haven't missed any info!! I love it sooooo much.
Tropes: dark romance, forbidden, age-gap, enemies-to-lovers, vigilante romance
Maeve was accused of a crime she didn't commit. She knows never survive prison in a 6 x 6 cell. As she's on the run while fighting an addiction she would love to give in to, she realizes she's being hunted by a US Marshall named Wolf. Wolf grew up straddling two worlds but never fitting in to either. He joined the Army after experiencing a heartbreaking loss. After returning home, he became a US Marshall along with working for The Righteous. By day, he hunts down fugitives and by night, he buries them six feet under. Once given the order to track down Maeve, he approaches it like any job until he lays eyes on the hurricane of a woman that tests him on every level. Soon they are both on the run from an enemy neither expected. Will they survive the storm coming their way or be obliterated?
Without a doubt this book is my absolute favorite of the series! I don't know what to do now after living this series from the beginning to this unexpected cliffhanger. I am in love with this author's creativity! I will be grabbing everything she writes. Maeve and Wolf have definitely come out my favorite couple and I'm dying to know how she will bring their story to a close. Their story kept me perched on the edge of my seat. I loved every aspect of it and if you are reading this, go get this book now. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I say it every time, but these characters in this book are my favorite!! I was pretty excited for Maeve’s story, but boy was I not expecting most of what her past involved and who! I love that the author holds all these little secret pieces back in the story, really making you wonder what’s coming, and then at just the right moment she blindsides you with truth and leaves you shocked at what’s revealed! This book, like all the others in this series, grab ahold so quick and then you’re page turning and losing track of time.
Phenomenal world building and the characters are ever evolving even after their stories are told. There are still secrets about our characters from past books in the series coming out and changing what I thought I knew about them, and wanting more!
If you haven’t started this series, you really need to. These books will hook you in, and make you wonder why you waited so long.
This the fifth book in the Righteous series and once again absolutely loved it! Brooklyn Cross once again has written an amazing story that had me hooked right from the start and experiencing all kinds of emotions. Her characters are always fantastic and Wolf and Maeve are no exception. When they meet they are not ready to be together and it tales a while for them to grow enough and let go of their pasts for this to happen. Still their chemistry and heat is off the charts and explosive when they finally do. The book is full of action, angst, heart, heat and twists. Be prepared for a what the??? cliffhanger ending that will want you needing book six ASAP. This book and series is an absolute must read! I wish I could give it ten stars.
Redemption in the Dark is book five of The Righteous series and can’t be read as a standalone. I was not prepared for this book or that cliffhanger! It was brutal! This book kept me on the edge of my seat right from the start.
Maeve is on the run because of a crime she didn’t commit. Wolf is the one that was sent to find and catch her. She put up one heck of a fight too! The angst between these two was amazing…I love angst! I don’t want to give anything away but the chemistry between these two characters was crazy! When it heated up, it was HOT!
This book has angst in spades, suspense that will keep you guessing all through the book, betrayal, secrets, and twists that will have you asking many questions! I need answers and can’t wait for the next book!
Stellar read!!! Wow! Want a Romantic suspense that keeps you flipping the pages like a maniac?! With a ton of heat And Omg moments?! This is your book!!!! Read this in one sitting and I cannot wait for the next book!!!!!
Maeve is on the run for a crime she didn't commit and the best tracker the U.S. Marshall has is after her. Unfortunately for her, he does get her....well, maybe it's not so unfortunate.
*Check trigger warnings because they are needed*
I do not have words to accurately describe this book. I absolutely adore Brooklyn Cross and the work that she puts out. This series has been one of my all time favorites, if not my top favorite. It's dark, gritty, slightly disturbing, but oh so good. The author has perfected the art of writing semi disturbing content without making anyone think twice about it. It's just that good.
Maeve is so fiesty and tenacious you just have to love her, and Wolf is book boyfriend goals. The pair are a match made in Heaven with some VERY explosive chemistry when they get together. This is a bit of a slow burn, but it is definitely worth the wait!
OMG! What another freaking crazy and intense rollercoaster ride that was. This series just keeps getting better and better with every book. But I think this one is probably my favorite so far. It was action packed, insanely suspenseful, intense, emotional and steamy. I was continually on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anticipation over what would be thrown at us next and I know my jaw definitely kept dropping throughout. I was utterly captivated right from the start and could not put this book down.
I am absolutely in love with Wolf and Maeve. These two have this otherworldly connection that is forged on past pain and heartache, which brings them closer and closer together as their story progresses. I loved their interactions and their back-and-forth banter. They had me laughing, shocked over what is revealed from their pasts and gushing with love for them both. I kept my fingers crossed the whole way through that somehow these two would let their guards down and finally give into the desire and passion that keeps pulling them together because when they did it was going to be explosive!
This story was phenomenal. It was filled with so many twists and turns that I had no idea what the hell was going to happen next. And then that ending WTF! It has left me shocked and reeling with anger over how it all ended. It was one hell of a cliffhanger ending and now I am left waiting on bated breath for the next book to come out!
When Wolf was given an assignment from both of the organizations he worked for, US Marshals and The Righteous, for one woman he thought it would be a piece of cake. Maeve proved him wrong at every corner. Maeve has already been sentenced to prison but escaped before being transported. She’s a wily woman and proves to be a tricky capture. Once Wolf comes into contact with Maeve he knows that she isn’t guilty of the crime she’s accused of. He can sense that there is more to this then what is being said by both organizations. One wants her captured and the other says dead or alive. Wolf makes the decision to help Maeve prove her innocence.
This was a rapid paced read that kept me at the edge of my seat while reading it. Danger, suspense and a chemistry that can’t be denied had me turning the page until the very end! And what an end!!!! We get left with one heck of a cliffhanger! I love this series and it continues to get better with each book that’s in it! I’m ready for the next one… now please lol
OH MY EVER LOVIN' HELL! I DID NOT SEE THIS BOOK COMING AT ALL! Gah, I'm not sure how I came to The Righteous series so late, but I'm going to fix it immediately because I'm absolutely 100% addicted. Meave is a heroine filled with #GIRLPOWER, and she's tough, but she has real demons that dog her steps, and while I'm not going to come off what they are, I will say it's no joke. The whole time I was experiencing her journey in all its chaotic glory, I was feeling so much for her as each little breadcrumb was revealed. Oh, and there's that whole being set up for something she didn't do & what follows is even more pure chaos. Wolf is the guy who is tasked to bring her in, but she outsmarts him a time or two so she leads him on a merry chase, and when he finally gets the upper hand, he realizes there's something super shady going on about this so he ends up trying to help her instead. There are so many twists with both of their past, and their current situation, so I have a ton of questions, probably because the diabolical Brooklyn Cross seriously kicked me off the side of a cliff leaving me dying inside for more. So yeah, that's all from me, now I'm going to end with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!
I am öbşessed with The Righteous Series and this book is another example of why. I usually avoid slow burn romances but not only did Redemption in the Dark pack a surprising amount of heat, the storyline was so dämn compelling. Wolf and Maeve quickly became one of my favorite couples in the series (please don't tell the others 🤫). What both of them have been through, especially Maeve broke my heart, but it only made them coming together so much sweeter (and hotter 🔥). There's a build up to their relationship that not only felt right but given their pasts, was needed and I loved every minute of it.
If you've read the other books in the series you've already seen a bit of Maeve's wild side. But Redemption in the Dark really peels back the layers of who Maeve is and shows us a side of her I wasn't expecting. Wolf was more of the calm and steady type, so I loved watching the effect that Maeve has on him. She definitely turns his world upside down but it's in the best of way.
I absolutely loved their story. It's more than just an opposites attract read. These two really bring out the best parts of each other and their story is definitely one of my favorites.
But that ending though...😳🤯😵💫. Be prepared for a cliffhanger and if you're the type who avoids them, please don't let that stop you from reading this, because this book was amazing!
This book was amazing from the very first page right through to the last. An edge of your seat, angsty, twisty and turny, melt your kindle hot read that had me pulling an all nighter to get to that last page.... And now I need the next book like yesterday....that cliffy!!!!!!!
This story was hot, full of suspense, and kept you mesmerized the entire time. Maeve was alittle troubled but she did not let that hinder her, I loved that she was strong-willed. And, there's Wolf, he is the Marshall who is set out to capture her. Well, well, well, we get whole full-course meal when it concerns him and Maeve, and yes he has dimensions to himself too but having Maeve around works out so well. Trust me, fanning and cold beverages may be required, just FYI. They are made for each, honestly, where one slips up the other is right there to support. The storyline was amazing, it flowed easily and the world building is great. Overall, this was a fantastic read and one I recommend!
Twisted Game was a phenomenal read! I absolutely adore Willow! This book was so emotional and so freaking good. I just can't get enough of Willow. Once I started reading I was hooked! I'm left completely wanting more. That cliffhanger was a doozy!
Wow! As a lover of romance with an edge, how Brooklyn Cross has flown under my radar this long is a mystery to me! This book, and I feel certain the entire series, is on another level. I have to catch up on all the suspense and swoon that is the Righteous!
Wolf is an expert tracker. As an US Marshall, he always gets his mark. He's also a member of the Righteous, a secret organization who rids the world of the evil that lurks in the dark. When he receives a kill order from both organizations at once, his spidey senses go up but once he meets the spitfire of a girl he's tracking, some altogether other senses kick in. He's desperately attracted to her but his code won't allow him to think of her that way. In addition, he's always had a bit of a 6th sense about people and his gut is telling him her loud proclamation of innocence is true. Well, she's innocent of the murder she's been convicted of, at least. Too many demons haunt her for her to truly be innocent in this world. Helping her costs him heavily but he couldn't walk away from her if he tried. There's something about her that pulls him to her without his permission.
Maeve had been running most of her life; running from the people who should've kept her safe, running from the demons they left in her psyche and the scars they left body and soul. Now she's running from the law. She's an escaped felon and she's being tracked by the best US Marshall in the business. She's far from innocent in this world but she didn't do what they said. She's prepared to fight for her life, even against the only man who has ever calmed the storm in her soul.
The connection they share is downright other worldy and it beckons to the two of them, even while the monsters hunt them. They're on the run, despite not knowing the bad guys from the good guys.
I wasn't prepared for this story At. All. Having never read Brooklyn Cross, I didn't expect the depth of emotion I'd feel for these broken characters (and the beautiful dog that is practically man). It will never cease to amaze me (in the worst possible way) the horrible damage humans can inflict on one another. Thankfully the author was able to take all the broken pieces and make something beautiful from them. My only issue with the story overall was they didn't do much to try to prove her innocence. It was swept away under the guise that he was shackled by being off grid but it just felt like a lot of time was lost. Obviously they made good use of the time in other ways (wink wink). I definitely wasn't prepared for the cliffhanger and I'm already jonesing for more from this exciting and tumultuous series.
Note: While this a beautiful, wonderfully crafted story, it isn't for the faint of heart or those triggered by sexual violence.

Maeve and Wolf have been background characters in the series and we only got the tip of the iceberg with them. Their backstories alone were so haunting and traumatizing to say the least. These two are thrust together after he is sent by two different organizations to hunt her down.
Well Wolf got more then he bargained for with this feisty young woman who has survival skills honed from years of abuse and turmoil. Your heart will break for Maeve as you dive into the story.
There are some big and not so big surprises that will leave scratching your head.
And the steam level is in the stratosphere.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Maeve and Wolfe’s story is truly unique! Sent to capture here and bring her in dead or alive Wolfe sets out to capture Maeve, but he didn’t expect the warrior he found! Maeve with her dark past and trauma has learned how to survive in the worst of cases and this time is no different. The Righteous series just keeps getting better and better and I have no idea how Brooklyn tops herself each time! Heads up the book ends on quite the cliffhanger that will leave you begging for Book 6! I just can’t get enough!!!!
Redemption in the Dark is the first book of Brooklyn Cross' I have read, and I'm not really sure how I didn't know about this author sooner! This is an amazing read!
I went in on this one blind not knowing that it is book 5 in the series so I definitely have to go back and read the other books in this series! Although this is an interconnected standalone, I would recommend reading these in order to get the bigger picture, but you can still read this as a standalone as I did & LOVED it!
Redemption in the Dark ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared if you are the type that hates them. I usually do; however, that did not deter from the entirety of this book. Wolf and Maeve are phenomenal! Brooklyn's writing style is easy to follow and all-consuming. I am absolutely impressed and can't wait to dive into the other books in this series!
Age Gap Forced Proximity Slow Burn 🔥🔥🔥 Angst, Suspense, Heartache, Action and Tears Cliffhanger
Redemption In The Dark is another great addition to The Righteous. This book is a tear jerker but it will also warm your heart. Maeve is on the run and they have the best tracker in the US Marshall Service tracking her down Wolf. He also happens to be a member of The Righteous. Maeve gives Wolf a run for his money before he captures her. Wolf can tell just by looking at Maeve that she is innocent of her crime and he intends to help her by finding out why she is being framed. Maeve has had a rough life and she has a lot of demons, Wolf is the man that will help her get rid of them. This book has on the edge of your seat action and an explosive cliffhanger. We are patiently awaiting for the next book to see what exactly is going on in The Righteous and where Maeve's story will take us next.
