**Final Shot was originally published as a part of the Scoring Over The Holidays Anthology. It is an OPTIONAL prequel novella to Game Changer, that does NOT have to be read first, but does help storyline.

Lizzie Winston has been my best friend for years, but it’s been a year since we last spoke and she ghosted me.

Now, we’re stuck on a plane together and I have three days to repair our friendship. This might be our final shot to save what’s left of us.

I might still want everything, but I’ll take whatever she’s willing to give me as long as she’s back in my life.

A little teaser into the world of the Las Vegas Vipers.

I think I picked this up as a freebie on Amazon.

Garrett and Lizzie are best friends, having met through their best friends! They were sort of together then not …. And both regret it but they can’t own it. Then Garrett gets traded to the Las Vegas Vipers and Lizzie won’t leave Chicago which teases us into thinking what’s up with their relationship…..

Nice to see what actually happened with Garrett and Lizzie prior to the first book. I like back stories, and this one was a great primer.

Okay prequel to start a new series but ends on a cliffhanger

This is a best friend, screwed up miscommunication, second chance prequel novella with a fair amount of angst. Garrett is a professional hockey player. Lizzie is an ad executive. They’d been best friends with some benefits until a year ago when their chance for more together ended on a miscommunication. Now they’re thrown together for a friend’s baby’s christening. Despite the shortness of the story, it was fairly well written though it needed a better edit with characters with some depth and a fairly engaging storyline. This novella ends on a cliffhanger. To get the rest of Garrett and Lizzie’s story, you’ll have to read the Game Changer.

This prequal gives us just enough info that it will leave you wanting to know more about Garrett and Lizzie. These two have a lot of history but somehow they never went too far. Now he is ready to put it all on the line for her...This little novella is such a great way to interduce a new series by the amazing Stacey Lynn and I can't wait to see how this story turns out.

Lizzie Winston is finally taking a much-needed, few days off, to see her best friend, Katie, and her husband, and, to celebrate the arrival of their new baby. Lizzie is taking a break from her demanding job, as a financial planner, and establishing and maintaining corporations’ retirement plans. This time off is, exactly what, Lizzie needs. Her best friend, Katie is married, to Jude Taylor, who is the best winger for, the Carolina Ice Kings, and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jude’s best friend, Garrett Dubiak met in college, and although they play for opposing teams, they have remained friends. Garrett played for, the Chicago Storm, as a goalie, but will be traded starting Christmas Day, to the Las Vegas Vipers. The only one that will know is the youngest Taylor brother, Joey who also plays for, the Vipers. Here’s the thing though, Garrett, along with the aid of, Katie, and, Jude helps orchestrate, him and, Lizzie. Getting them to sit down together in first class, them sharing a suite, with one room, etc... He wants their bad blood, behind them. He believes it is her that ends them, being friends, and more. And she is believing, it is him. The hurt, and pain that rolls out of them, is deep agonizing pain. He tells her the first night, the ball is in her court, but after working out thinks better of it. Coming back saying, never mind scratch that. He thinks friends will work out, better because he misses her as a friend. Yet, when they get hot, and bothered for one another, and are all into it. It's then he spills his truth, the one he omits earlier, the trade to, Vegas. When she is firmly established in Chicago, her close-knit family and her home. Shocked she sees it as him, using her, as his last goodbye. No matter if he said those three little words or not. He used her friends and their families against her, he omitted information, and he made her drop her wall for him when was finally moving on... Yes, part of this is just my speculation of course, but why would you think just this minimal amount I’ve given you, would be remotely alright? Then pull the rug out from under her. What a man! NOT!

A quick paced novella that definitely left me wanting more by this new to me author. A sports romance that had family, friends, misunderstandings, poor communication, heat and more. There were several stories being told and I loved the closeness of the Taylor family along with two of their closest friends - Garrett and Lizzie.

They do say opposites attract but when Garrett and Lizzie each keep pushing the other away for so many bad reasons it's heartbreaking. Neither is willing to speak the truth until Garrett does but of course it's couched in such a way that the ball, so to speak, is in Lizzie's court. There is some closure but so much more story to tell. I like the title and look forward to reading more of these hockey playing books.

Unintentionally funny

These books need better editing. There are good ideas and the author has an okay foundation, but there are amateurish mistakes in the writing and the emotional drama never quite kicks into high gear. As an example of the need for better editing and ridiculous mistakes in the writing, from the context of the sentence “word vomit” is the idiom that the author was trying to get to when she wrote “verbal-omitted”. Consequently, the author completely missed the mark by a country mile on that one. Not knowing the term “word vomit” and making up her own portmanteau of verbal and omit, she created a term that was the exact opposite of her intention.

Steamy novella….

I loved this prequel for Game Changer! Told in this author’s signature style of emotion-filled writing, she took me back to the beginning and it explained so much…

Going back and seeing how Lizzie and Garrett’s story started was steamy perfection. From friends to lovers, this bite-sized read packed a huge wallop of emotion as well as steamy goodness. It was the start – and ending – of something new in their friendship that had a finite time limit. Or did it?

I read this after Game Changer so my heart didn’t hurt as much as it should have at this heartbreaking ending. Though it still packed a punch…

*I happily (tearfully) reviewed this story

This is a great novella to introduce the series and get me excited to read Garrett and Lizzie’s full story. I’m curious as to how their relationship will officially start and who will be the first to reach out after their night together. I also really appreciate how the author wrote a character who is not “traditionally attractive” (outside the muscles of course) but has a great heart. He also isn’t afraid to admit he loves Lizzie even when she hasn’t said it back yet.

Now off to read the next book to find out how their story ends.

I don't like novellas, but this one was worth reading because it really set the tone for the first book. A lot happened in it that was talked about in the characters' book and I feel like I'd be a little confused if I had skipped since the full length book doesn't go into details about their previous relationship that this one does.

It's short and I finished it in about an hour so definitely worth taking some time to jump into before kicking off the series (since it's not just about the first book MCs but at least one other as well).

This novella didn’t need to exist. The original miscommunication was dumb. They wouldn’t talk to each other. The FMC had no personality and was unlikable. Ended on a cliffhanger and I have no interest in continuing. This was the most tedious, stressful part of a third act breakup released as a book. With no reward.

Also, the word verbal-omitted doesn’t work. It’s not a cute way to say word vomit. It literally made my brain stutter and wonder why words were being left out while he was thinking. I took another star away just for that idiocy.

I read Game Changer first because it said you didn't need to read Final Shot before. The whole book, I felt I was missing half the story because it had happened off page. So, I decided to real Final Shot after finishing Game Changer to get more context of the relationship between Garrett and Lizzie.

Well, this story also begins after a long established relationship/dynamic between the two. Again, I feel like I'm starting in the middle of the story. I would have liked to read how they met, fell for each other, etc. We're already halfway into their love story on page 1.

A little sneak peek of Garrett and Lizzie. Friends with benefits that turns to love. Neither one of them ready to admit how they feel. Just when they try the other says something to put them off.
They hadn't seen each other in a few years and they just keep missing their chance for a HEA.
What will Garrett's move to Vegas do to their budding relationship. Will Lizzie be able to put her life in Chicago on hold to take a chance with him? I can't wait to find out.

"If this is our last night together, I want to spend it with you."

Lizzie and Garrett's story (Game Changer) is one of my favorite hockey romances. Because I already knew their backstory/drama situation I knew what to expect from this prequel. But actually reading it?!

This novella hurt my heart (in the best way possible).

actually opening chapters of Game Changer

Game Changer makes a lot less sense with out this novella. These 2 are frustrating people to say the least. Why can supposedly level headed, intelligent people be so inept at basic communication. They individually know they love other person, won’t tell the other. And when they don’t get the reaction expedited they shut down.

Oh my heart! What a beautiful story of friendship, love, a misunderstanding and hopefully repairing it. This story has you rooting and wanting more and guess what it's just the prequel to Game Changer so read on.

Gave up on these two

Talk about wishy washy people. Best friends that can’t talk to each other. A miscommunication (which was stupid) and they both walk away. A conversation would have been nice. Gave up at 43%

Great story, great heart rendering story! I am hustling to buy Ms. Lynn's next book because I have to know the next leg of their journey and read more of the beauty of their relationship!

This is just the beginning of Lizzie and Garrett’s story except we don’t see them from their very beginning. In this prequel to Game Changer, we meet them as they repair their friendship after a year of not speaking. They once again slip into friends with benefits despite both wanting more.

This is a prequel to the Las Vegas Vipers series. Lizzie and Garrett have known each other for a long time. But for some reason things just never seemed to work out for them. Will they ever get together and stay together? A novella for adult readers. Recommended.

It was ok. Ends on a cliff hanger which wasn't clear. Quite a few editing issues but decent story. However it didn't leave me gagging for the next installment. Left me 50/50 unbothered either way.

Looking forward to more

Mozzie and Garrett screwed up their friendship over things not said and misunderstandings. They have one weekend to gain their friendship maybe more back. Once again they omit things to one another. This is a prequel so I look forward to their story.

I received a copy of this book for free.

I liked this a lot. I’m currently in a hockey romance phase so this was good but I read the blurb for book 2 and there’s a pregnancy trope in it so sadly I won’t be continuing the story.
