Hi, I’m David.

I’m a copywriter. And chances are, you’ve seen an ad I’ve written. You just didn’t know I wrote it.*

(And this is my dog. Aggie. She’s a prominent character in my email tomfoolery …)

*because how in deity’s name would you know that I wrote an ad you saw 😅

STEP 1: Click the button below and sign up for my emails.

… Not so sure you wanna subscribe?

You’re in the minority 👇

Email praise from “Australia’s Best Copywriter, Daniel Throssell.

“If you only do one thing today professionally, sign up to receive his regular words of wisdom.”

… learn copy without the feeling you are learning something.”

“I’m addicted to reading your emails, David … As a copywriter, subscribing to these was one of the best decisions I made.

“I’ve been loving your copywriting tips and stories so far”

“I subscribed to your newsletter because another newsletter described your landing page as ‘weird but works.’ Yes to both..”

How on earth do you find your ideas?”

“David, your daily writing works damn well! Short quick stories you give each time & I try to study the structure.”

“But those are just EmAiL tEsTiMoNiAlS …”

If that doesn’t float your goat, here are just a few of the hundreds of companies I’ve written copy for:

Okay, enough social proof.

Here’s everything else you need to know about me.

  • Lead Senior Copywriter at the world’s most oddly named company — “Launch Potato” — a 4x Inc 5000 Fastest Growing Business

  • Formerly the “go-to” freelance ad copywriter for the Hustle (2M+ subs, acquired by Hubspot)

  • I write ads for household names like Robinhood, Coinbase, Uber and NerdWallet

  • I regularly write email copy for lists totaling 500,000+ subscribers

  • Led copy strategy and content development for Worthy by FinanceBuzz, one of TIME Magazine’s 13 Personal Finance Newsletters to Subscribe to in 2023

  • The ads I write are seen by millions of people month after month (and generate millions in revenue, too)

  • Developed the “Skeptics Mechanism” copy technique, that works even with the most jaded, “seen-it-all” readers

  • They even have a special name for me … 👇

The ‘Million Ad’ Man.

Ooookay fine. Nobody calls me the “Million Ad Man.”

But … it is catchy, right?!

Well it’s also kinda true.

I write copy for ads (native, social, email) that runs in front of millions, every month …

… across Google, Meta, Snap, TikTok, MSN, Yahoo, and newsletters …

… For companies in the ecommerce, personal finance, and tech industries

… Meaning if you’re even remotely interested in those things, there’s like a 72.96% chance* you’ve read my copy at some point in the last 5 years.

(*Okay so not actually 72.96% … gotta keep this landing page compliant. But it IS reasonable that you’ve seen one of my ads before based on sheer volume and spend.)

But who cares about all that!? Show me how you write for brands like the Hustle and FinanceBuzz, damnit!

How a startup failed me into copywriting

I started my career as an over-titled, under-qualified “director of marketing” for a teeny, tiny startup selling business software to freelancers.

I learned everything here. Media buying, web design, content marketing.

But … the company failed.

They laid me off and I never saw them again.

But during my time there, I fell in love with copywriting.

I spent months learning the craft from Copyhackers and Copyblogger.

1 year later (and a few clients under my belt) I wanted my first “real” copywriting job. So I did the natural thing and …

… responded to a totally shady Craigslist ad for a travel company

By some stroke of luck, I got the job.

🙈🙊🙉

But … uh … then covid happened, and I got laid off.

Sounds bad. But it’s actually one of the best things that happened to me.

Because after I was laid off, I got my first big “copywriting break” …

I landed my first massive client, the Hustle

I became the “go-to” freelance ad writer for their 2 million+ subscriber audience. Even their clients loved my copy.

But eventually, I wanted to “level up” my skills.

So I settled down (remotely) at a little-known digital marketing company in Delray Beach, Florida — a stone’s throw from the offices of AWAI.

To this day, I’m still there — as the Senior Copywriter for Launch Potato.*

*Copy Cowboy, in fact … This is my actual Slack profile at work. Lol.

👆 Praise from the CEO, Greg van Horn, who’s launched and scaled over a dozen million dollar businesses in the last 15 years.

So yeah … they really like having me around.

WHAT

ARE

YOU

DOING

STOP!

Okay so I guess my origin story wasn’t “cool” enough for you to opt in yet.

How do I fix this?

Hmmm …

Ah, yes! MORE social proof! WE’RE GOING CRAZY ON SOCIAL PROOF, MY DEAR READER!

Here’s what some fine folks in the marketing world have said about me.

Maybe you’ll say similar things too after you sign up for my emails or decide to work with me:

Kyle Johnson, Co-Founder and Head of Marketing for Curated.com — one of the most “cutting edge” businesses in the ecommerce game right now.

Michael Shen, CEO and Founder of SkillSuccess — THE “workplace” competitor to SkillShare.

Anna Madill, CEO and Founder of Avenue Agency — one of Portland, Oregon’s top digital marketing agencies.

Bobby Durben, then senior copywriter (and my freelance manager) when I was with the Hustle.

People love my copy … and my emails. You might too. Or, you might hate ‘em.
