Jennifer Lewis has curated and produced more than 100 Red Light Lit reading events, at which an array of performers present works on love, sexuality, and gender identity that span the emotional gamut, from titillating to hilarious to heartbreaking. Lewis joins Alta Journal contributor Anita Felicelli to discuss sexuality in literature, describe the expansion of Red Light Lit into a journal and small press, and read a bit of something that might make us blush.

About the guests:

Jennifer Lewis is a writer and the editor of Red Light Lit. She was the 2020 winner of the Los Angeles Review Literary Award for Flash Fiction. Her short story “New Low” was a winner of Nomadic Press’s Bindle Award in 2018, and Nomadic Press is publishing her debut short story collection, The New Low, in January 2022. Her fiction has been published by Fourteen Hills Press and the Los Angeles Press and in Cosmonauts Avenue, Entropy, Midnight Breakfast, Sparkle & Blink, and X-Ray Literary Magazine. She received her MFA in creative writing from San Francisco State University. She teaches at the Writing Salon in San Francisco.

Anita Felicelli is the author of the award-winning short story collection Love Songs for a Lost Continent and the novel Chimerica. Her essays and criticism have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and the New York Times’ Modern Love column.•
