Here again we see it: Muhammad Syed was moderate until he started killing people. He was an ordinary Muslim who became an “Islamist” when he opened fire. And while the community is shocked, no one will explain, or be asked to explain, why the Sunni-Shi’ite animus could move someone to kill. To search for the roots of these shootings in the texts and teachings of Islam would be dismissed out of hand as “Islamophobic.” And so nothing effective will be done to try to prevent this sort of thing from recurring. That is why there will certainly be more killings of this kind, someday, in the U.S.
“Fear turns to shock among Albuquerque Muslims as police say the shooter is a Muslim,” by Becky Sullivan, NPR, August 10, 2022:
The killings of four Muslim men in Albuquerque had already shaken the city’s small Muslim community, prompting businesses to close and residents to temporarily move away amid fears of a deadly spate of Islamophobic hate crimes.
Then came Tuesday’s news: The suspect, police say, is a 51-year-old man named Muhammad Syed, who is Muslim himself and whose motive may have been related to “interpersonal conflict.”
“You would expect that learning that a suspect is found and has been detained, it would feel like a breath of relief,” said Leena Aggad, the 23-year-old vice president of the University of New Mexico’s Muslim Student Association.
Instead, she said, news of the arrest felt “like another chain was placed on my heart.”
The suspect is well-known in the Muslim community
Syed is well-known to the Muslim community in Albuquerque, multiple people told NPR. He regularly came to the same mosque that the victims had attended.
“For months, this guy was praying next to other members of the community as if everything was normal,” Aggad said. “It shocks you.”
Syed has been charged in two of the four deaths, and police say he is the primary suspect in the other two killings. He was arrested during a traffic stop more than 100 miles from Albuquerque, authorities said Tuesday.
In a conversation with officers, Syed denied connection to the shootings. According to the criminal complaint, a gun recovered from his home matched bullet casings found at the crime scenes.
Police are working to determine a motive for the killings
Some reports have suggested the possibility that Syed, a Sunni Muslim, had targeted his victims over anger that his daughter had married a Shia Muslim. Authorities said Tuesday they are still working to determine the motive. (“Detectives discovered evidence that shows the offender knew the victims to some extent and an interpersonal conflict may have led to the shootings,” a police statement said.)
The suspect had lived in New Mexico for several years after immigrating from Afghanistan….

Has anybody asked him what his motive was? He may be willing to say so – after reading him his rights, of course. But I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway. The main thing is to determine whether or not he INTENDED to kill anybody. If I learned anything at all from James Comey of the FBI, it is that INTENTION is the most important factor when deciding whether or not a crime has been committed and when to bring charges of a crime.

this is a big admission, even though it is hidden in her words:
“as if everything was normal,” Aggad said.”
“Everything was normal.” mozlums harbor hatred…for anyone not like them, for anyone who *offends* them in any way, and of course, the *dishonor* thingy. He may have murdered his daughter instead, but that had recently been tried in Texas, next door to him. Might be found out right away, so murder the other offending mozlums, first. He might have gone on to his son-in-law and daughter given time.
Many serial killers who wish to murder a certain person, but know family members, husbands, ex-husbands, etc. are first to be suspected, will murder someone the cops won’t connect to them. then, after several *random* murders have been committed, will go for their *real* target.
He’s a serial killer. Likely to be charged with the other two murders.
But this mozlum msa….(msa is under the umbrella of the mozlum brotherhood)…member knows full well that there is a lot of hatred learned and heard in the barracks. And there are about 6 thousand mozlums in Alburquerque. How many terrorists among them? The msa spokesperson likely has an idea.

muslims should be ENCOURAGED, not prosecuted, for dispatching their co-religionists and fellow ackbarbarians.

With all respect, notnolib, do you *really* welcome the spectacle of Muslims slaughtering each other in our streets and possibly killing Infidels in the crossfire? Not me.
OLD GUY says
I wonder what his background in Afghanistan was. Why do we want to continue to bring these muslim/islamic people into our country. It’s been well documented their hate and violence towards non-muslims is so evident. Killing seems to be their answer to disagreements or being offended by someone else. How many more of these murders do we need? Stop the migration of islam.

He was one of those Afghan ‘refugees’ who arrived last year. So when they say he’s well known in the ‘muslim community’, are they implying that he’s well known among the few local muslims who were already there – including these shi’a muslims? Or do they mean that he is well known among the muslims who were brought from Afghanistan and settled in Albuquerque? What is the definition of ‘muslim community’ in this case?
somehistory says
One report I read, said that he had been known to LE for domestic abuse. And the “friend” who helped him get settled said that he was at the barracks with the rest of the terrorists in training. My guess: he was well-known to the LE due to the abuse against his wife and daughter and muzlums knew him from the barracks and were familiar with his hatred for shi’ites.

Help me folks. I’n wondering why Americans can commit mass murders, which they seem to do every week or so, without arousing your concern, but when a Muslim in America does something similar, you’re outraged at such horrific, wicked behaviour.
It’s almost as if you believe Americans have the right to engage in such savagery (and the gun lobby seems to support this view), but that others should butt out and leave the country if they want to do such things themselves.
Or is it just that any crime a Muslim commits is especially wicked, simply because he’s a Muslim? Are your moral standards really so deformed that this makes sense to you?
I know that insults and abuse are the usual reflex responses to such a question, but it deserves an answer.
Infidel says
Main place where mass murders happen regularly is Chicago, and the reason it goes unnoticed in such places is that there is a Democrat regime there that in the name of social justice turns its back on that crime. You have George Soros prosecutors in several cities – Los Angeles, Manhattan, Philadelphia, Chicago, St Louis, Austin and until recently, San Francisco
So therein lies your answer. Reason it doesn’t get much response is that it’s ignored by most of the media, and is par for the course. And the reason it’s ignored by much of the media is that it exposes the indulgence of the Dems towards criminals
Rod says
Hello Infidel
A few comments on your post.
First, the main place where mass murders happen is not Chicago. They’re happening all over the USA, as we observers outside know full well. It’s not hard to keep up if you want to. Here is one source, but there are others https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2022#Statistics.
Second, it doesn’t go unnoticed or ignored. The world (where I live) watches these events with mounting concern, as I’m sure do many Americans.
Third, in pretending to reply to me, you’ve not answered my question. Which was –
– why Americans can commit mass murders, which they seem to do every week or so, without arousing your concern, but when a Muslim in America does something similar, you’re outraged at such horrific, wicked behaviour.
– is it just that any crime a Muslim commits is especially wicked, simply because he’s a Muslim? Are your moral standards really so deformed that this makes sense to you?
PS In advanced democracies the justice system is completely independent of Politics, as of course it must be if it is to function properly. The idea of “democrat” or “Soros” prosecutors is ludicrous, (as is a bunch of Trumpist appointees dominating the highest court in the land, and ensuring decisions favourable to the party which appointed them).

This series of killings of Muslims was regularly characterized as “Islamophobia”–but the actual murderer was a Muslim who reportedly hates Shi’ites.
Of course “Rod” would prefer that Infidels not be allowed to know this.

A lie as usual. And my question (which I’ve put to you twice now)? Too complex for brainless bigots to even comprehend, let alone answer or discuss.

“Rod” has always reacted with rage whenever Jihad terror is exposed–as here. So his claim that I am lying when I note this is absurd.
And I have answered his questions many times here (he does realize that he asked more than one?).
Let’s go through this again:
Murder is *illegal* in the United States. Murderers are regularly stopped by the police and sometimes private citizens. Murderers are prosecuted by the United States courts and imprisoned in US prisons. In some states they receive the death penalty. So the idea that Americans are fine with murder not only makes no sense, it is calumny.
Then, this is Jihad Watch–“Rod’s” constant demands that JW drop its focus on Jihad is just bizarre.
JW also does not focus on art, education, or animal rescue–all things I have a particular interest in. The difference is that I do not expect it to. There are other outlets for this.
But of course, this is not a real concern of “Rod’s”–he just hopes to distract from the Issue of Jihad terror, by falsely implying that if Anti-Jihadists care about Jihad that they ergo care nothing about violence in general. Utterly false–but he’s got nothing else.
Then, the implication that Anti-Jihadists only care about the threat of Jihad terror because it is committed by Muslims makes no sense. Most of us grew up knowing next to nothing about Islam and not caring any more about it than we would any other religion that is largely fringe here. It is the mushrooming threat of Jihad terror here that has caused the concern.
Finally, the claim that countering “Rod’s” vicious claptrap is “abuse” is absurd. But like all apologists for Islamic savagery, he likes to play the victim.
