Day six featured a Roundtable Conversation with Jochen Sokoly, Associate Professor of Islamic Art at VCUarts Qatar, and artists Camille Zakharia and Tarek Al-Ghoussein.
It was moderated by Holiday Powers and Monica Merlin, Assistant Professors of Art History at VCUarts Qatar.
The artists’ work was the subject of an exhibition at VCUarts Qatar titled, “Landscapes of Arabia: Camille Zakharia and Tarek Al-Ghoussein”, which was curated by Jochen Sokoly.
The exhibition “Landscapes of Arabia” took its title from a seemingly romantic notion of a landscape that was shaped by European scholars and travelers as far back as the 18th century up to the mid-20th century.
