Apple has been lagging behind both Google and Amazon with a slower pace of smart home product introductions.

But that could soon change. We’ll take a closer look at the latest Apple rumors.

A New Full-Sized HomePod Is in the Works

HomePod mini between two mini statues

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman ran down all the Apple smart home rumors in his Power On newsletter.

Gurman says that Apple is preparing at least four new smart home devices in its labs. But not all of them will be released.

First up is a familiar name and form factor. Apple is apparently planning to bring the full-sized HomePod back from the dead.

As you probably remember, the HomePod was discontinued in early 2021. Apple made the decision to discontinue to HomePod and instead focus on the HomePod mini.

Things have definitely changed. The new HomePod will reportedly feature the same S8 chip as the Apple Watch Series 8 and sport some type of multi-touch display on the top.

The smaller HomePod mini is also in line to receive some type of update, but nothing impressive.

We could see both of the new smart speakers in early 2023.

Two More Exciting Smart Home Products

That’s not all Apple is considering releasing. Gurman says that Apple is developing a device that features an Apple TV, camera, and HomePod.

Another product in development is Apple’s take on the Amazon Echo Show which fuses an iPad, speaker, and robotic arm that is made for use in the kitchen.

The timeline for those products is less clear. Gurman says probably only one will arrive in late 2023 or early 2024.

Capitalizing on the New Matter Smart Home Standard?

The smart home sector is poised to grow with the introduction of the Matter standard in late 2022.

Apple and a number of other tech giants are supporting the standard, which is designed to make smart home interoperability easier.

With the expected increase in interest in the smart home, Apple technology could convert new users.

Apple Could Be Making a Bigger Play for the Smart Home

The reported return of the full-sized HomePod and an improved HomePod mini is good news for Apple fans.

But the two new rumored smart home products could truly spark more users into Apple’s vision of a smart home and put it on the same footing as its competitors.
