It was only a matter of time before the woke clashed with Islam. The trend will increase. The Left has turned a blind eye to the suffering of victims under Sharia, even joining Islamic supremacists to beat up critics of Islam, all the while claiming to be the stalwart defenders of human rights and feminism. But can Leftists turn a similar blind eye to the demands of their putative allies?
Wokeness has become a religion unto itself. Its acolytes are in for a surprise if they continue to advance their cause and test the depth of their Muslim allies’ commitment to Islam. In light of the aggressiveness of the woke and the rigidity of Islam, the fractures will almost certainly continue to grow in the Leftist-Islamic alliance.
Buzz Lightyear, “based on the Toy Story franchise, was reportedly banned in the United Arab Emirates this year over a same-sex kiss,” and “another video on Saudi state media accused Netflix of “focussing excessively on homosexuals.”
Hungary recently launched an investigation into the Netflix cartoon Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, which features lesbian girls kissing. Hungary’s investigation, however, is proceeding for reasons that are completely different from the concerns that have led these Islamic countries to make demands upon Netflix. Hungary’s investigation was to protect children, as the show is geared to youngsters. The Hungarian government has implemented measures for the all-encompassing protection of children — from anti-pedophilia legislation to banning LGBT content from its school curriculum. Hungary is not anti-LGBTQ; it also showcases its Budapest frolic for the gay community. The LGBTQ community has full rights in Hungary, but not to indoctrinate young children. Under Islamic law, however (including in “reforming” Saudi Arabia), “homosexuality can be punished by either flogging or death, while sexual relations outside marriage are banned.”
Gulf states are now threatening Netflix with legal action.
“Netflix must remove ‘un-Islamic content’, demand Gulf states,” by James Rothwell, Telegraph, September 7, 2022:
The Gulf states have demanded Netflix removes “un-Islamic” content, accusing the streaming service of “focusing excessively on homosexuals”.
The order was an apparent reference to a same-sex kiss in the cartoon Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.
The Gulf Cooperation Council [GCC] and the Saudi media regulator said in a joint statement that Netflix had been asked to take down such content, “including content directed to children”.
It added that the authorities “will follow up on the platform’s compliance with the directives, and in the event that the infringing content continues to be broadcast, the necessary legal measures will be taken”.
The GCC statement did not specify the content which had caused offence, but Saudi media reports cited a scene in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous in which two female characters kiss. One TV report showed an extract of the kiss in question but blurred out the characters’ heads….
State broadcaster Al Ekhbariya TV condemned the content as a “cinematic cover for immoral messages that threaten the healthy upbringing of children” in a report it posted on Twitter.
State TV also cited the French film Cuties, which has caused controversy in the West over claims it sexualises young girls.Another video on Saudi state media accused Netflix of “focussing excessively on homosexuals”….
Under Saudi Arabia’s interpretation of Islamic law, homosexuality can be punished by either flogging or death, while sexual relations outside marriage are banned…..

For once, I agree w/ the Saudis: Netflix has no business showing such material to kids. Yeah, yeah, I know that muslims treat their kids horribly, but that’s no reason to give Netflix’s grooming a pass
CogitoErgoSum says
They should just cancel their subscriptions to Netflix. I did.
Infidel says
Yeah, but the Saudi rulers can’t cancel the Netflix subscriptions of their citizens, therefore…
As for me, I never had Netflix. I was never a frequent movie watcher, so never saw the need
CogitoErgoSum says
If the Saudis could make it illegal to bring a Bible into the country they could make it illegal to watch Netflix or somehow block its transmission over the internet into their country. But, yes, some people would still find a way to watch it so the Saudi rulers want to go straight to the source of their problem. I don’t like censorship and I don’t like Islam so I would prefer to let the free market solve this sort of problem. If people are good and decent they will support good and decent entertainment and other forms of entertainment will not make money. Getting the people to like what is good and decent is indeed a big problem though.

This “protecting the children” argument is absolute nonsense. It’s just the religious imposing their bigoted beliefs on the secular marketplace.
The reason we had the “free the tit” campaigns and bra burnings is to battle against prudishness and the sexualization of the female body and also male chauvinism and it worked.
It’s about desensitizing the masses to seeing breasts only as sexual objects (to please men) and simply as a human body part, it’s a fight for reframing the semiotics around these types of issues.
The LGBT community is doing the same thing through the normalization of acts of affection between same sex individuals.
What’s worse, two (mutually consenting of legal age) people showing their care for one another through a kiss, or to incite hate, bigotry, violence and killing of such people simply because they happen to be of the same sex? If you think its the former, you need your head examined or move to Saudi Arabia.
Has exposure to gay sexuality made anyone gay? Obviously not, the same applies to young people. Nobody says a peep about two hetero teenagers kissing, why is it a problem if it’s two girls or guys?
The West needs to tell Islamic nations to go to hell. We are a far superior civilization because of our freedoms. If we gave them up, we’ll turn into fascist totalitarian hellholes like theirs where people are routinely jailed, tortured and killed simply for thinking freely, nevermind all the other reasons like being LGBT.
The most sickening part is that this anti-gay hatred is founded upon insane mythologies claiming some god opposes it-a god who’s never made himself known to anyone in history.
Just people pretending (lying/claiming) they spoke to this god and he gave them the ‘rules’ of living which just happen to coincide with their own prejudices, biases, hatreds and bigotry.
Let’s also not forget that Netflix and smart TVs come with parental controls. So obviously this is a BS argument, the Muslims just want to impose Sharia law on us and sadly some Christians are happy to go along with that slippery slope, until it’s too late for them to realize it’s not the world they wanted to live in. Stand up for secular-democracy and our freedoms (even if you oppose LGBT) or you will lose them.

I agree. There is plenty of stuff on cable and even network TV that is inappropriate for children. It is up to parents to police what their kids are watching.

Netflix should tell them to take a hike.
