Gavin's grip is firm on either side of me as he ducks down to look into my eyes. Even though I lean back, I can feel his minty breath on my face.
"Clementine, I want to warn you." His voice is husky and deep. "I'm going to kiss you, and you're going to like it. A lot. But I want to be clear that I'm not going to sleep with you because I want you to respect me in the morning." His mouth lifts up in a wry smile. "This is simply one friend helping out another. Okay?"
Wait. Is he serious?
He must sense my apprehension because he rubs his thumb softly across my cheek. "It's just an exercise, to get you into your story. I promise."
I laugh, embarrassed, intrigued, and a whole lot turned on by the idea. He smiles again, but this time it's different. His eyes darken as his hands glide over my hips. My breath catches in my chest.
"Gavin, I don't think—"
He rests a finger over my lips. "I'm doing this in the name of academics. You need inspiration? You're looking at it. Now shut up and let me kiss you."

It was so good and love the characters. I never got the book boyfriend thing till now. Gavin is perfect. I always thought I liked more spicy scenes in my books but the build up and then the way they were written was amazing. Gave me all the feels. I’m on to the next book and have a feeling the next few weeks are going to be busy.
Clementine is a beautiful MC. She is a writer with one published book, attending University and looking for inspiration for her 2nd book when she meets Gavin. This is not a simple case of 'boy meets girl and they fall in love', not by any means! Clem is broken - she has been hurt by her cheating ex (caught with her supposed best friend) and then stalked and attacked by her professor who was meant to be her guide and role model in her freshman year, cut off by her parents and seemingly abandoned by her twin brother.
Gavin has admired Clem from afar for many years - since he shared a class with her in their freshman year. A random crossing of paths puts her back in his sights. He doesn't know what she's been through, but can tell she has her walls up for a reason, and works slowly to gain her trust and bring those walls down. Would be nice if it were that simple though, wouldn't it?! Instead he has a jealous ex coming after Clem, and a news article to write about a missing college student. But as his investigations progress, it appears that there may be a link back to Clem.
The story blew me away - it was so well written, I loved the writing style and I couldn't help but be pulled in. By the end of the novel, I had to remind myself that these are fictional characters and not people I know, because I felt so invested in them getting a HEA.
I look forward to reading more in this series, and other works by this author.
I liked that whilst the book deals with some serious issues, its also really quite cute and was really fun to read.
I liked that Clementine and Gavin had many layers to their personalities, and yet were still easy to relate to. Clem had her reasons for closing herself off, which I won't go into because spoilers, but the more I read, the more things were understandable.
I was really rooting for these two characters to get through their barriers and for them to get their HEA. Whilst it is a fairly long book, I couldn't stop myself from wanting to pick it back up and read for as long as I could, each and every time I was able to.
I definitely recommend, and I will also definitely be continuing this series.

Clem is a girl after my liking. I consider myself closed off too, especially when it comes to the male species in this world, although I have different reasons than her. Like Clem, I have a good friend who often tells me not to be so bitchy on a night out: "Be nice!" Yeah... No. :D Since I can identify myself with Clem really well, I had a deeper connection to the book altogether, which I really liked.
"You can't stand the heat? Then stay out of the kitchen."
Then there is Gavin Murphy... There are not enough words and expressions in the English or German language that will do his character justice. Gavin is smart, funny, kind, understanding, honest, loyal and sexy as hell. All of those qualities and more qualify him to be in my top-3-list of book boyfriends:
"I'm doing this is in the name of academics. You need inspiration? You're looking at it. Now shut up and let me kiss you."
Seriously, who doesn't want a Gavin Murphy in their life? If you know where to order one, let me know, because I'm in need of some inspiration, too. ;)
I really enjoyed the storyline of this novel, or should I rather say storylines? Dearest Clementine focuses on more than one and they are all linked together somehow within the novel. But don't let that put you off. Lex Martin has managed to find the perfect balance between all of the storylines. It doesn't feel overloaded or overwhelming at all.
The dynamic between the secondary and the main characters were great as well.
I usually don't comment on book covers but how can I not say anyhing about this one? It is utterly beautiful! The colors, the font, the picture... I absolutely love it. ♥

The story is told in the POV of our heroine, Clem. She's awesome. Intelligent, funny, independent and strong-minded. She's an indie author who published one hit book under a pen name during her freshman year. With a history of uncaring parents, a cheating ex and stalker problems, Clem doesn't trust others easily and constantly avoids the dating scene. While trying to find inspiration for a new novel, she meets sexy RA, Gavin Murphy. He's a complete gentleman and plays the guitar (I'm a sucker for musicians!). Oh, and he has a nerdy sense of humor which I loved! When Clem mistakenly signs up for a romance writing course, Gavin offers his assistance in helping with her writing assignments. All I can say is that I have a new appreciation for the stacks at the university library! Aside from our awesome hero and heroine, we also have quite a few wonderful secondaries.
Overall, Dearest Clementine is a fantastic read, highly recommended! There was just the right amount of a "slow burn" in Clem and Gavin's relationship and the mystery/suspense aspect of the story was well written too. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Right away, author Lex Martin created a living, breathing college atmosphere. I could imagine myself walking through Boston University's campus and dorms, and picture myself hanging out with Clementine and her circle of friends. I adored all of their quirks, interactions, and every second of each conversation--sometimes funny and sometimes tender. All of the little things added up to give the book a unique personality. For example...I think, in real life, every girl deserves a fiery best friend like Jenna, Clementine's roommate-slash-BFF.
Jenna writes back: Wanted you to meet...the new guitarist. Very cute.
Laughing, I respond: Stop trying to set me up!
Jenna: Your vagina is going to close up, and you'll need surgical assistance to use it again.
That's not even the best texting convo in the book. They only get better...*cough* and dirtier *cough*...and you'll just have to read this book to find out what I mean. ;)
You see, at first, Clementine is a girl starting out her senior year and trying hard to maintain a protective shell. She is smart-mouthed and shuts down any idea of dating...But instead of being irritated, I felt for her! She had good reason for that hardened exterior! More and more details about her past came to light as the story progressed, helping me to understand how she ended up that way. (There's a scene with her brother that just broke my heart.)
That's where Gavin comes in handy, though. Gavin Murphy, the sexy RA extraordinaire. Clementine is having trouble with an assignment for her romance-writing class...not to mention, in a bit of a life-limbo...so this "Henry Cavill doppelganger" (*shrieks*) steps up to the plate. ;)
“Clementine, I want to warn you” His voice is husky and deep. “I’m going to kiss you, and you’re going to like it. A lot. But I want to be clear that I’m not going to sleep with you, because I want you to respect me in the morning.”
“I’m doing this in the name of academics. You need inspiration? You’re looking at it. Now shut up and let me kiss you.”
The cheeky banter is the best. The flirting is. The. Best. They have the kind of banter that you want to smirk and roll your eyes at, but internally, you’re melting into a big fat puddle on the floor and squeeing the whole way down. The *kisses* alone were scorching, and the sweeter moments made me happy-sigh. (I mean, seriously...HOLY FIRST DATE, BATMAN.)
As with all great New Adult novels, though, there was so much more than the highs of the romance. I spent a lot of time abusing my vowel sounds...like OOOH, GAAAH, and EEEEEP...and it wasn't always because of Gavin! I got to see Clementine slowly break out of the walls that she built around herself, overcome the most painful parts of her past, and deal with the angst and doubt that comes with falling in love.
While there were a couple of aspects that I wished were explored a little more, and although there was an occasional, tiny detail that didn't quite click for me, I just enjoyed Clementine and Gavin too much. I enjoyed all of the other details and surprises *so much more*.
Dearest Clementine had personality, humor, and heart, and I was thoroughly captivated. *Wooed.* Satisfied. This book had a great cast of characters. And, as it turned out...not everyone was exactly what they seemed. I loved most, I loathed some, and I even switched sides for a couple of them. With just enough twists, the story was fresh and interesting. 4.5 stars for Dearest Clementine, and I can't wait to see what Lex Martin will give us next! :)
