No, Islamic law does not permit a man to murder his wife.
The Qur’an does, however, say “When you meet the unbelievers, strike the necks…” (47:4)
Sajjad Heidarnava may have considered his wife Mona Heidari to have become an unbeliever by rejecting something he considered Islamic. “And it is not fitting for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and his messenger have settled a matter, that they should claim any say in the matter, and whoever is rebellious to Allah and his messenger, he indeed goes astray in obvious error.” (Qur’an 33:36)
And now he has been sentenced to eight years in prison. That’s all. Eight years, or “more than eight years,” as the story below says: “seven and a half years in prison for murder and eight months for assault.” That’s all. That’s how much this woman’s life was worth.
“Iranian man gets eight years for beheading teen wife,” AFP, January 18, 2023 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
An Iranian man has been jailed for more than eight years after decapitating his wife and displaying her head in public, in a case that shocked the country, the judiciary said Wednesday.
Mona Heidari, 17, was killed in February 2022 by her husband and brother-in-law in Ahwaz, capital of the southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Video that emerged later of her smiling husband parading her decapitated head in the street sparked an outpouring of grief and outrage in the Islamic Republic.
Sajjad Heidarnava was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for murder and eight months for assault, judiciary spokesman Massoud Setayeshi told reporters.
The family of Heidari had pardoned the killer rather than demanding qesas — Iran’s Islamic law of retribution…
At the time of the murder, media outlets in Iran said Heidari had been married at the age of 12 and was the mother of a three-year-old son when she was killed….

The government puts Christians and others to death for going against the eils of islam; but they give this murdering mozlum a few years in prison. Such things are not “justice.”
Keith O says
This would never happen in a civilised nation. IE: a non mudslime nation.
Islam has no respect for life, it a death cult, nothing more, nothing less.
Fitna says
Indeed Keith, that’s because most of us in the West are sane, rational and generally caring people. Our values and most of our religions generally value human life. Ofc Christianity takes this idea to extreme, absurd and ludicrous levels which is a problem on its own-on abortion and euthanasia for example, but that’s an aside.
If anything Islam just proves the power of brainwashing…that you can take normal humans, fill their heads with insane ideas and then you have a population of crazy people committing atrocities.
Irrational people don’t know they’re crazy. Ask any mental patient who talks to their dead parents or Elvis if they think they’re nuts, they’ll tell you they’re totally fine.
Unfortunately the danger of religion is that it can convince normal people that evil, dangerous ideas are good, healthy and moral. The trick is that you have get them when they’re children and are unable to think for themselves. Grown adults don’t fall for this BS unless they were crazy to begin with, like converts to Islam.
I’m sure not one single Muslim man who blew himself up, beheaded his wife or others, ran over non-Muslims, and so forth, thought he was a bad person. In fact they think they’re following the will of Allah, and who wouldn’t want to please the god of the universe to secure your place in paradise?
Now every religion has their own moral code like Islam and I guess we’re pretty lucky that most religions are not as violent and extreme as Islam is or we’d all probably be at each other’s throats all the time. Just more evidence that we’re all better off without religions.
While 8 yrs is a light sentence, I’m surprised they jailed him at all, since usually with honor killings in Islamic countries, they let them walk free…from what I’ve seen in the past. Perhaps the regime is trying to show it’s responsible so people don’t overthrow them, hopefully they don’t fall for that trick.
One day, assuming our idiotic leaders don’t deal with Islam, I think we’ll have to take care of the problem ourselves, the way that Iranian people are trying to do.
Keith O says
Yeah, Fitna, you pretty much nailed the whole shitty human experience.
OLD GUY says
Not sure I agree with we would be better off without religion. Other than ISLAM the major religions of the world are the reason we are civilized and caring individuals because we teach our children how to live and get along in society.
Fitna says
I know it’s a difficult idea for most people to get their heads around…but one can easily see how dangerous religions are just by looking at Islam.
Islam is obviously an inversion of all that most humans value, things like family, freedom, equality and so forth.
The trouble is that all religions are founded on erroneous thinking. For example the belief in the idea of “higher powers” when there is no evidence at all to hold such views.
Then from that basis people tack on all kinds of bizarre ideas…like worshipping cows, monkeys, and other animals and thus becoming vegetarians.
Or the idea I mentioned above that “life is sacred” but then depriving women of the right to autonomy over their own bodies, or refusing to let people end a life of suffering by using medical technology that we have today.
Then religion wages war against science, because of the idea that we come from two humans made from dirt and that the Earth was created in 6 days…all of this is false and nonsensical and already disproven by science.
That’s just some of the problems with religion-and I’m just scratching the surface. Those of you who were brainwashed into your beliefs will probably never give them up. But fortunately thanks to the internet, the younger generations are becoming more secular and leaving religion.
Actually another benefit is that we’ll have an authentic morality, that we help one another because we feel it’s the right thing to do, not because some ancient mythology book (written by goat-herders) that tell you what is right or wrong.
Once you realize all religions are founded on lies and superstitions, then they all fall apart like a house of cards.
