Belgium pioneering with very first Hydrogen Law

The Federal Parliament has given the go-ahead for Belgium's first hydrogen law. This should regulate the transport of hydrogen through pipelines in our country. According to the cabinet of Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Green), Belgium would be the first country worldwide with such a law.

The law regulates the transportation of renewable hydrogen through a network of pipelines and introduces the function of grid operator, similar to what the company Elia does for the Belgian high-voltage grid. The system operator, yet to be appointed, must guarantee free and non-discriminatory access to the hydrogen network and ensure the quality of hydrogen.
