Michael Boone has just one goal: to get traded to his hometown team so he can be closer to his family. But when a runaway bride who happens to be his coach’s daughter jumps into his car to escape Mr. Wrong, the heat is on ... in more ways than one.

Boone
I’m supposed to be a guest at my coach’s daughter’s wedding to a player from another team, but instead I find myself helping her escape it. The timing couldn’t be worse—I have to stay in Coach’s good graces to secure the trade I need. But when the sexy, newly single redhead with legs for days shows up in my life again, I can’t say no.

Jolie
After escaping marriage to a man who made me feel like I was never enough, I plan to focus entirely on completing my dissertation. Science has never let me down—I can avoid emotional entanglements by focusing on cold, hard data. But when I’m powerfully drawn to a man who is warm and, okay, I’ll admit it— also hard —all bets are off. Mr. Right Now is exactly what I need, until both of us find ourselves wanting the one thing we can’t have—more.

The opening to this one had me laughing! It was funny how Boone was so reluctant to help Jolie in her desperate bid to run because he was afraid of her dad, who was basically his boss. Jolie really had to play hardball to get his help. I felt bad for Jolie and all that was happening to her, but better to realize when she did, than after the ceremony.

It was fun to see how these 2 kept bumping into each other afterwards during the hockey camp and later when Boone has a problem dropped at his door, Jolie finds herself helping him, spending more time together and sparks fly! These 2 were good together, just wished they could have talked more honestly about their feelings and the future, it would have stopped so much drama at the end. Boone did man up and let Jolie know what he really wanted, which let to a very sweet bookend of an ending.

This book had me at “runaway bride and coach’s daughter” LOL and it did not disappoint. I’m not sure I’ve ever read that combination, and even if I have, it would have been long enough that this just sounded fresh and unique, and I couldn’t wait to dive in! :) Not that I wouldn’t have read a book written by these ladies any which way lol I’m not crazy :) But I digress …

The thing I love most about this story, and quite frankly just about anything Kat Mizera writes, is that no matter the circumstances in the story, they’re never heavy with that circumstances. They’re well written stories that are realistic and relatable and make you feel like you could be part of the world she’s created with just the right amount of emotion. They’re easy to read and easy to love.

Hard Hit might just be my favorite St Louis Mavericks story. Boone and Jolie both were characters you can’t help but root for from the very beginning. The meet-cute/beginning will grab you and you won’t want to stop reading. The story never drags and the characters are never repetitive or full of inner monologue (there’s nothing more I dislike than this lol); it is constantly moving forward. It’s a story full of entertainment and also heart. SO MUCH HEART! Again, possibly my favorite in this series!

I really enjoyed this fast paced, steamy story. It had an interesting premise (hockey star wants to get traded to the town where his brother is battling a serious illness…but as he awaits a trade, he starts a relationship with his coach’s ’off-limits’ daughter). I thought Michael ‘Boone’ was a mostly ok guy. Responsible, family oriented, charitable, and good boyfriend material. How he treated his girlfriend, Phd candidate Jolie, was wonderful too. Very supportive and loving. Except for one thing…I wanted him to fight harder for her. The fact that he wanted to be with his brother and didn’t really consider ways that he could still have Jolie in his life disappointed me. There was actually one scene where after reading it I noted on my kindle ‘that doesn’t sit well with me’. Fight for her like you’re fighting to be with your family! There are ways that you can have both…It wasn’t until late in the story that he faced his feelings for Jolie, but I guess better late than never🤷🏻‍♀️

Since I jumped ahead and went from reading book one to this fifth? in the series, I guess I’ll have to go back and read the others.I did enjoy meeting the characters from previous books so hopefully I’ll enjoy their stories too.

And now, sadly, we come to the final book of the series. So far. I hope, please, please, pretty please, that this amazing duo of Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera have more coming for us readers. There are at least two more players who clearly have their own story that needs telling.

Oddly enough this is my least favourite though it gets four stars which is nothing to sneeze at. This is the story of Michael Boone, more commonly known as Boone, one of the Mavericks who has been weaving in and out of the books and Jolie, the team coaches only daughter. They don't hang out in the same circles, they are aware of each other. They start interacting when Jolie is running out of her wedding, sees Boon driving to the wedding and she stops him, begging him to take her away. Boone is most reluctant. This is his COACH and Boone really doesn't want to get on his coach's wrong side. He's hoping to get traded to his hometown so he can be there for his younger brother who is going through cancer treatment. But Boone is a good guy who sees Jolis's desperation so he agrees.

They enter each other's orbit again when both agree to help coach on a little league team run by her father. Now they start sitting up and noticing each other. But of course there are complications. Coach is a very controlling parent and does NOT want Jolie involved with any of his players. He wants her back with her fiance. But that's not going to happen. In addition there's still the Boone wanting to be traded even though he does love playing for the Mavericks. Coach has a huge say in whether that happens. But the more time Boone and Jolie spend together the deeper their feeling grow.

While I still love this book, there didn't seem to be the same intensity of the previous books. The strong connection between hero and heroine that elevates the earlier stories is a bit weaker. Don't get me wrong, I still recommend this book. By the time I got to book five I wanted more time with this close knit group of players. Both Boone and Jolie are very good people. Boone is willing to quit hockey to be there for his brother and despite the pressure Jolie stands up to her dad. She's actually a nerdy scientist working towards her doctorate. I love this aspect of her. She's a geek with a bit of a jock mixed in. And I'm glad I read it. It's a great part of the series.

What was so good about this story was that these two didn’t even know much about each other and never thought about dating the other. You get to see the most genuine relationship grow from Boone being a savior to Jolie one day and then you watch everything grow. It wasn’t fast but it wasn’t extremely slow; it was a good pace. They KL both had family issues they were dealing with whether it was a sickness or an overbearing parent but they seemed to make it work. They were a team in every sense of the word. Funny that the only bump in the road wasn’t from an incident that I expected but from something so minor that it was almost laughable because of their communication. But their epilogue was beautiful! Their friends were amazing, Jolie’s grandmother was funny and Boone nephew was adorable.

It wasn’t an unforgettable book, but it was efficient: low angst, some fun, found family time, a whole lot of swooning at guys with kids, and a progressive love that felt believable.

I always thought that a coach forbidding his team to date his daughter was lazy writing as far as forbidden romance goes, but here it was well done. The authors actually explain why the man needs to control his daughter’s life–even though his opinion on his players isn’t that great. And though the coach annoyed me, he was a great plot point here.

Boone and Jolie become fast friends, and even though there’s some appreciation right from the beginning, attraction and feelings appear slowly, by spending time together. I loved that. Also, I thought the fact that their relationship is special, that they never knew something like that before–with the support, the consideration, etc.–was really shown and not just told. Boone shows a real interest in Jolie’s work, and Jolie is unique enough for Boone to see it. Some comparisons weren’t exactly fair though, and it bothered me a bit. Sometimes, relationships aren’t supposed to be, that doesn’t mean that the exes are necessarily bad. Here the authors go the extra mile to convince the reader that Jolie’s ex was a terrible guy, and Boone’s past hookups aren’t depicted as potential girlfriends.

Boone’s family story was quite dark, with a dead father, a sick brother, and a hot-mess sister. Maybe a bit too much. But it helps with showing how much Boone is a good guy, ready to make sacrifices for the people he cares about. Also, the fact that he takes charge of his nephew ties him to the other Mavericks team members who are getting kids all around him. I loved seeing the characters from the previous books, and not just as cameos, but as part of the plot, and with some character arc too.

The timeline was a bit confusing at times, with characters promising to do something, and not doing it apparently for days for no obvious reason. I know, procrastinating is a thing. But it also cast someone’s priorities in a bad light.

All in all, Boone and Jolie’s story was a nice one, and I recommend it.

Quickie

- Series: St Louis Mavericks #6 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #hockey romance #forbidden romance #friends to lovers #opposites attract
- Triggers: some psychological abuse, mention of addiction and alcohol abuse
- Main couple: Jolie Gizzard & Michael Boone
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + I thought the relationship progressed at a good pace for once
- – the coach was unbelievably stubborn

HARD HIT is the fifth instalment in the contemporary, adult ST. LOUIS MAVERICKS erotic, hockey romance series co-authored by Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera. This is team member Michael Boone, and PHD student /coach’s daughter Jolie Gizzard. HARD HIT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as many previous scenarios are mentioned.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jolie and Michael) HARD HIT follows in the wake of a runaway bride. Jolie Gizzard was about to marry a man of her father’s choosing, a man she didn’t love, and who didn’t love her in return. On the run, Jolie jumps into hockey play Michael Boone’s car, the man with whom Jolie will fall in love. Jolie is the daughter and only child of Michael’s grouchy coach, and as such, Jolie has been declared off limits by the man in charge but all does not go according to plan when Michael Boone finds himself a temporary parent to his sister’s son, and struggles in the wake of his own brother’s illness. Hoping for a trade, Michael finds himself falling for a woman who may or may not be available when an impending trade comes through. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Michael and Jolie, and the potential fall-out as Jolie’s father not only threatens Boone, but his actions, threaten to push Jolie out of his life.

Michael Boone never considered dating the coach’s daughter but Jolie was no longer engaged, and our heroine wanted something more from our story line hero. Jolie would often help with looking after Boone’s nephew, a young man caught in an impossible situation. Boone is desperate for a trade to be near his brother but a trade means leaving the woman with who he may be falling in love.

The relationship between Jolie and Michael begins as a rescue-Jolie is a runaway bride who doesn’t love the man she has been forced to marry. Knowing the coach will not be happy with the current situation, Michael Boone intends to keep his distance but finds himself falling for a woman who could break his heart. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

For fans of the series, most of the previous story line couples return as several impending births push the players together. We are reintroduced to Hadley and Weston (Hard Fall), Sariah and Nash (Hard Pass), as well as Jolie’s father Coach Gizzard, her grandmother Grandma G, Boone’s brother Andy (via phone), their sister Emma, and nephew Joey.

HARD HIT is a story of family and relationships, power and control, desperation and determination, acceptance and love. The fast paced, character drive premise is captivating and energetic; the characters are animated and edgy; the romance is spicy and sassy.

The St.Louis Mavericks have very quickly become one of my favorite hockey series. I simply adore this group of characters; they are an amazing found family and strong team both on the ice and off. This series is not light and fluffy and your heartstrings will be pulled all over the place, but Rothert & Mizera put it back together, I promise! Michael Boone has been one of the big players that has been around throughout the series. He had his heart stomped on and but he has been a constant support for so many of the players and their partners. This guy is so funny, but also has a heart of gold. It seems Boone is always doing or saying something to one of the characters that makes your heart melt. We were all so excited for him to find his match. Boone is one of the characters you feel like you know so well, and then you get to his book and you realize you didn’t know him that well at all. The thing that stuck out to me the most about Boone is how important his family is to him. He would literally do whatever he needed to be there for them, and he shows it in his actions! When he finds his coaches daughter running away from her wedding, he of course, has no choice but to help the girl out!
Jolie Gizzard is a Ph.D student that is set to marry a man that her father approves of, until she realizes that she can’t. Running from her wedding and straight into the car of a player on her fathers team no less. Jolie is a no nonsense kind of girl, and she has her eye on the prize. Her Ph.D. She has goals and plans. Which is my absolute favorite thing about her. Her father on the other hand, really wants to play a role in her life….he also happens to be the head coach for the St.Louis Maverick’s. Their dynamic was one I struggled with, and not because of her. She is who she is, and honestly she is amazing. She has a kind heart and always so willing to step in and help out. I love how she grew throughout the book, followed her heart, and made amazing friends! I also absolutely thought Grandma G was a definite highlight of this book!
Boone and Jolie brought out the best in one another. They complimented each other so well. They definitely taught readers a lesson in communication, and being open with your feelings! This is another MUST read for me, but you have to read all of the books in the series to really grasp the amazingness of this team! All the stars for this author duo….and I hope to see many many more from the Maverick’s!

The Runaway Bride & the Hockey Player

I've been loving the St. Louis Mavericks hockey series from Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera, their collaboration is so smooth that I cannot tell where one finishes and the other begins. HARD HIT is the story of Michael Boone and Jolie Gizzard, one that involves a runaway bride who just happens to be the coach's daughter and completely off limits.

It's her wedding day, and Jolie has come to the realization that she cannot marry Jarvis, a man she doesn't love, a man her father has set her up with. The two have nothing in common, so she flees and makes her way to the nearest car available. Michael is a well-loved member of the team. His family means everything to him, he's looking for a transfer to Nashville to be closer to his brother who has cancer, so he's trying so keep on the coach's good side. Imagine his surprise when he pulls into the car park to have the bride running toward him wanting to get into his car. A brilliant beginning to this story and really set the tone for the rest of it.

I loved this couple. Michael really wore his heart on his sleeve, especially when it came to his family. Not only does he have worries with his brother, but his sister makes a surprise appearance with a request he can't deny. This man is a protector, a carer, and a man who is falling for the one woman who is off limits. Jolie was wonderful, what you see is what you get, she's smart, sassy, independent, has a tender heart, and always willing to give her time to help others. Michael and Jolie were amazing together, they were two halves of one soul, complimenting each other perfectly. Their heat and chemistry sizzles, but it is their ability to communicate that I loved the most, they were always open and honest about everything. I admired the way their friendship developed and evolved, it was a natural progression, nothing appeared forced or unnatural.

HARD HIT is another brilliant addition to this series. Michael and Jolie were two characters who I easily fell for. I enjoyed catching up with the other players on the team, they always gave me a laugh. Then there was Grandma G ... what a woman!! Even though this is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books in this series because they are all that good!!

HARD HIT is a definite MUST READ.

Going back to the St. Louis Mavericks and all the wonderful characters, this time focusing on Michael Boone, one of the top players, and Jolie Gizzard, the coach’s daughter. The story starts out fast – Michael is running late driving to attend the wedding of Jolie and Jarvis, a hockey player from Chicago. Before he can even find a parking spot, the bride comes running out to escape her wedding, and hangs on to his car demanding to be let in. Feeling worried about angering the coach but also worried about hurting Jolie, he lets her in and takes her back to her apartment.

It's a great start to a new love story. Coach Gizzard has basically pressured Jolie into marrying Jarvis, feeling that marriage to Jarvis would give Jolie financial security. The night before the wedding she overhears Jarvis saying he doesn’t find Jolie sexy, and it gets her thinking about all the red flags in their relationship and realizing she doesn’t want to marry him. Jolie is also is finishing up her doctorate and has been so focused on her education that she has no social life, and her fiancé has shown no interest in her studies or future together.

Michael’s brother has cancer, and all Michael wants it to get traded to Nashville to be there for his family. He has to be on good terms with the coach to help him get traded, getting involved with the coach’s daughter is not going to help him get traded. And then his sister appears at his front door, five years after taking off and not keeping in touch with the family. Now she has a four-year-old son and needs Michael to take care of Joey so she can go to rehab for her alcohol addiction.

I enjoyed catching up from characters from the previous books in this series, and meeting Grandma G (Jolie’s grandmother) was fun. The addition of Joey to the story opened so many ties between the different characters, and really added to the emotional ties between Michael and Jolie. It helped to know the background of the some of the other characters, but also works as a standalone.

Boone is running late for his coach's daughter's wedding when he pulls into the parking lot of the church. Jolie is running away from a marriage to a man who makes her feel like she wasn't enough when she flags Boone down and begs him to help her escape from her wedding. Boone needs a trade to Nashville to be closer to his family and knows his coach holds his career in his hands. Coach warns his players to stay away from Jolie who will be helping out hockey camp for underprivileged kids. Boone and Jolie's attraction grows as they spend time together. When Boone's estranged sister shows up with her son, Boone agrees to keep his nephew, Joey, while his sister checks herself into rehab. The WAGS and Jolie step up to help Boone care for Joey when he has practice, games at home, and away trips. Jolie is finishing up her PhD and trying to get her father to stop interfering with her relationship with Boone. Will Boone receive good news about his brother's illness? How will Jolie react when she learns Boone is still getting traded to Nashville? Will Boone be selfish and ask Jolie to come with him to Nashville? Will Jolie realize she needs Boone in her life more than she needs what is familiar and safe? Will Jolie and Boone find their happily ever after? I loved Hard Hit by Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera. Jolie and Boone are a great couple who make each other a better person while bringing out the best in each other. Hard Hit has family, smoking hot chemistry, friends, adorable nephew, overbearing father/coach, and drama. I would highly recommend getting Hard Hit and the other books in the St. Louis Mavericks Hockey series. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

The writing duo of Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera is guaranteed to deliver a fantastic reading experience.

I loved how Boone meets Jolie in a hilarious runaway bride situation and he’s terrified of his coach blaming him for being his daughter’s getaway driver. Despite Boone’s attraction to Jolie he doesn’t want to risk his coach’s wrath by appearing to be interested in her, but spending time together coaching the youth hockey campers brings him in Jolie’s proximity and they become friends.

Boone’s character shines through in his devotion and loyalty to his family - birth and team. When he steps up to watch his 4 year old nephew so his sister can get help, it’s heart melting to see how he interacts with Joey.

Jolie gets to see Boone interact with the young hockey campers and sees his goodness and when she learns he’s taking care of his nephew she has little resistance to the sexy hockey player.

The storyline is rich with camaraderie between the players, along with their significant others. The relationship between Boone and Jolie starts off casual and a secret, but as their feelings grow complications develop due to her controlling Dad/his demanding coach, his desire to be traded to Nashville to be close to his family and misunderstandings caused by each of them not being upfront about their wants, fears and more.

The drama in their relationship was a much external to their relationship due to her dad, as well as some poor decisions on their part.

I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to more stories about the Mavericks. I was happy to see Sawyer start to heal and
loved seeing his bond with Boone.

I received a free ARC from the author and 1852 Media; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

It started off with a runaway bride, turned into a friendship and quickly became more than either Boone of Jolie anticipated. But, the timing was all wrong with Jolie about to start her professional life with her newly earned Ph.D. and Boone looking for a trade to Nashville to be closer to his family. So, can they stick with it being fun while it lasts, or will both Boone and Jolie be left feeling broken hearted as their careers pull them apart?

I adored this couple. Michael Boone never seemed too serious about anything in prior books, but beneath it all, he’s fiercely protective of his family and wants to be physically closer to them, even if it means giving up the teammates he adores. And, when an unexpected addition shows up at his door, he dives right in without any thoughts of how it would impact his personal life. I loved that Jolie was incredibly independent and willing to fight for what she wanted for herself, rather than letting others push her in the direction they thought was best. She’s sassy, sweet and loyal to those she cares about and the perfect partner for Boone. It was lovely watching them fall for one another even when they anticipated it would end in heartbreak. I really loved every page and hoped they would find a way to make it work.

Hard Hit also caught up with all of the couples from the prior books in the series, which is always fun to see where they are in their lives and relationships.

With amazing chemistry, witty banter, sweet moments, drama to keep things interesting and a whole lot of self and relationship discovery, Hard Hit ticks all of the boxes! 4.5 stars!

Oh how I’ve grown attached to this team and these characters. “Hard Hit” is a fun, emotional and pulls on your heartstrings in all the best possible ways hockey romance that I devoured in just a couple hours.

Jolie, knowing her fiance isn’t the one, despite what her father thinks, leaves her ceremony before everything can begin. In need of an escape driver, Michael Boone, happens to be in the right place at the right time. Boone loves being apart of the Mavericks family but needs to move back to Nashville to be closer to family. Jolie and Boone form an unlikely friendship that leads to something more despite neither being in the right place for a lasting relationship.

I just love how close the players and their wives are with each other. From book one, it has truly felt like a family and with each book, they get closer. Boone is such a genuine guy and I loved him from the beginning. He was willingly to do whatever he needed to do to help his sister and brother, including sacrificing his own happiness. Jolie was a breath of fresh air because she never backed down from what she knew was best for her. I admired her drive and independence so much. These two met officially under unusual circumstances and they truly built a friendship before they moved on to something more. There are a lot of scenes with the other Mavericks which made me so happy because they are apart of why I love this series so much.

Boone and Jolie. A Hockey , runaway bride, Love story.

Boone and Jolie become fast friends, but slow to becoming lovers. This was a sweet, romantic story of unusual circumstances that led to them finding their soulmate. Boone just happens to be pulling into the parking lot late for Jolie’s wedding when suddenly he sees her come running out in her wedding dress and she jumps in his car. Awkward!! Jolie realized at the last minute that she had ignored all the red flags and was going to marry somebody that was all wrong for her, and that weirdly her father had picked and chosen for her!! Now, after pulling a runaway bride scene, she realizes she needs to concentrate on herself and think about her career and what she wants in life. Boone has a brother who’s really sick and sister with a small son. The sister is addicted and needs to go to rehab. So he takes care of his 4 year old nephew, He’s got a lot of family issues that need to be addressed and he needs to get back to his hometown. The only way he can do that is if he gets traded to the hockey team in his hometown and he needs his coach to help him. Unfortunately, his coach happens to be Jolie‘s father and he cannot let his feelings for Jolie get in the way. This is a sweet story on how two people find each at the wrong time in their lives but realize in the end, family and live are all that matter. Can’t wait to read more in this series.

A St. Louis Mavericks Hockey Romance

Michael Boone is going to his coach's daughter's wedding and is running late. When he shows up he sees the bride running toward his car, jumping in and telling him to go. He knows this isn't going to be good for him but takes off.
He has one thing he's working on and that's getting traded to Nashville so he can be closer to his family.

Jolie Gizzard wasn't getting married especially after overhearing her fiance saying some not so nice things about her. Her dad wanted her to marry Jarvis, who is a hockey player on another team but it's not happening now. She is working on her PhD and just needs to focus on her dissertation so she can get a job and move on.

Both of them are helping with the hockey camp and enjoy spending time together and are getting closer. When Boone's sister comes to him for help watching her son he agrees and of course Jolie is there to help as well as his teammates' wives.

But his coach isn't happy that he's spending time with Jolie and tells him if he wants the trade to stay away from her. He needs the trade to be closer to family, will this be the end of them?

4.5 stars
I really enjoyed this story and how Boone cared so much for his family that he would do anything to get closer to them. Grandma G was pretty cool too!
Can't wait for the next book!

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In this story we get to know Michael Boone who is a member of the Maverick's Hockey team. His family really needs him and so he is hoping for a Nashville team trade so he can be there for his family.
Boone has a beloved brother who is battling Colon Cancer. His wife is not only taking care of Andy but also his son, Mason who is just one and working as well. They refuse to take any money from Boone so he wants to move back and help out.

In the midst of all this, Jolie Gizzard enters his life when he shows up to her wedding and she ends up begging him to help her run from the wedding. She is his coach's daughter, and he fears that helping her will be an issue and make the coach refuse a trade if Nashville agrees to take him.

Then life just keeps throwing them together, so he has some tough decisions to make about Jolie and his future. Jolie also has decisions to make, and she is at a crossroads of her life where she has to decide where she wants life to lead her and with who.

This is not a light read but it was a wonderful story that might even make you shed a few tears but also make you grin as Jolie is totally adorable and Boone is just so hot and a real sweetheart.

Super enchanting, full of family drama and good intentions all around. Boone’s brother has cancer and undergoing chemo, and Boone is working on a trade to Nashville to be near his family. However, when he goes to his coach’s daughter’s wedding and finds Jolie running away from the wedding, he helps her and can’t help feeling attracted to her.

As penance, Coach G has Jolie work with his hockey clinics where Boone already works. So they start talking until Coach G puts a stop to it.

Boone gets more family drama to deal with, Jolie also has father controlling issues to deal with. Notwithstanding, even with the fear of being a rebound, a romance is brewing and it’s turning to be all they didn’t know they wanted and needed.

The book is a page-turner full of a little boy’s adorable moments, super steamy moments between Jolie and Boone, and the heartwarming support of a hockey team that feel more like family than blood family. I love the caring atmosphere, how the gang gathers in a hospital for hours, waiting while one of the wives is having a baby, reading about Nash’s crappy jokes, and the women’s sexy banter as they interrogate Jolie. It’s happy and heartwarming even with the family drama and such a feel-good read. Totally recommend!

I was so excited for Hard Hit and as soon as it hit my kindle I dropped everything. Let me just say Michael Boone and Jolie Gizzard’s journey was everything I expected and so much more. I love Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera’s writing as individuals but when they come together they take hockey to another level.
The last thing Boone expected when he attended his coaches daughters wedding was for the bride to high jack him and his car as she makes her getaway…
Jolie knows she can’t marry the man waiting for her at the alter but what she didn’t expect was to realise she has feelings for the man who helped her run and who also became a friend she has grown to rely on. From the moment these two spend time together sparks fly but she has just come out of a relationship and he is desperate for a trade at the end of the season. So what does the future hold for this couple…one click now to find out.
Hard Hit ticked all my boxes, I fell hard and fast for Boones the man with a heart of gold who will do anything for family and friends, I adored Jolie and I found myself cheering this couple on but what took this book to another level was the friendships and the loyalty this team share. A wonderful addition to this wonderful series.

This one has it all, you will swoon over Boone and love Jolie! This author team keeps scoring with this series! 5 hot hockey stars for this one!
Boone has watched as his teammates have paired up. He's got one goal in mind, to be traded to Nashville so he can be closer to his family. And now that his sister has shown up with his nephew Joey, and leaves him in his care, it's more reason to head home. But when his coaches daughter, Jolie, runs out on her wedding and jumps into his truck, he knows his life will never be the same!
Jolie was set to marry a guy her dad picked for her, but when she over hears a comment he makes to his friend, she realizes that this isn't what she wants. She'd rather be in the lab finishing up her doctorate than start a life with someone she doesn't love. When she meet's up with Boone, she feels things, but her father would never allow this so she tries to ignore it. But you can only ignore things for so long, especially when he needs her help with his nephew.
The sparks fly between these two, and you will fall in love with them! Grab this one asap!

This is a great series and Michael Boone and Jolie Gizzard's story is one of the best. Boone was running late for Coach Gizzard's daughter's wedding, when he pulled into the parking lot, and the bride came running out, begging Boone to help her make her escape. Turns out, the coach is really the only person wanting this wedding!

Boone and Jolie are helping coach at a hockey camp for underprivileged children, and as they start to hang out more, both of them realize there is something between them. They bring out the best in each other and are the perfect foil. With a lot going on in Boone's family, he has decided he wants to get traded to Nashville to be closer to them. Jolie is just about to finish up her PhD. and after spending so much time in school and her lab, and with the promise of a great career, Boone does not think he can ask her to come with him. There is all the drama, love, and heat that you expect from this series and the adorable Joey is the icing on the cake. Mix in some of the favorites from the previous books and it's a pure love fest!! A must read.

Arriving late to the wedding of his coach’s daughter was not the impression Boone wanted to make but when she changes her mind, he now finds himself helping her escape. From this unlikely beginning when he found himself spending time with Jolie which brought them closer however, he finds himself conflicted between the woman who has stolen his heart and the need to be traded to another team so that he can be there when his family needs him the most.

Jolie feels nothing but relief that she stopped her wedding before it was too late and isn’t about to be distracted from finishing her education so that she can finally have the career she has always wanted. As she gets to know him and sees how caring he is when it comes to those he loves it only makes her want him more.

Hot chemistry and all the feels as not only was the romance between Jolie and Boone heartwarming but the way they were there for each other only made their relationship that much better.

Emotionally charged temptation! With the fifth book in their always addictive St. Louis Mavericks hockey series Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera delight their readers with a sweet and sexy romance with a touch of forbidden. The characters are developed well and easy enough to like and their back stories both have powerful tidbits that move the storyline. I always enjoy my visit to the Mavericks!

Boone has the rep of a player, but the emotional depth we see from him when the stakes are high with his family really endears him to the reader even before we grow addicted to his spark with Jolie.

Jolie is not as easy to like as Boone is because in all honesty she's a bit of a flake who lets others control too big of aspects of her life, but she redeems herself a tad when she falls for Boone.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that enjoys a steamy hockey romance with a tight knit team that loves to welcome the next guys forever love into the picture.

What a way to really meet someone that you hardly know—by the woman escaping her wedding and her demanding you take her out of there! I guess the topping on the cake for Boone was, Jolie the woman running was his coach’s daughter. I felt so bad for Boone as he needed to get back to Nashville to be with his immediate family, but had to keep his coach happy to get traded. Everyone on the team knew to stay away from Jolie as her dad had her life planned out for her. But the beautiful, smart scientist getting her Ph.D had a mind of her own. Jolie was quiet, but she was such a fun person when you got to know her. Then Boone had a visit from his estranged sister with another surprise.
Jolie was such a sweetheart and had made friends with the hockey player wives. It was heartwarming seeing Boone and Jolie get to know each other and start to fall in love. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Jolie is the coach's daughter and set to marry a player on another team. On the day of the wedding, she can't go through with it and bolts. In her rush out of the church, she jumps into Boone's car and demands he takes her out of there. Boone has no choice and he knows Coach is going to be furious when he finds out.

Boone is dealing with some family issues and while he loves playing for the Mavericks, he needs to be closer to home. He has been looking to get traded to Nashville but it's not looking good. Once he helps Jolie escape, the two become good friends and start developing more feelings. Boone knows Coach would be none to happy to find out anything is going on and he can't jeopardize working on the trade.

When Coach does find out, will he help Boone with the trade or fight it just to make a point? Could he just be happy for his daugther?

We see lots of characters from previous books and meet a few new ones. Loved Joey, Boone's nephew.

Kat Mizera & Brenda Rothert are on a winning streak with HARD HIT (St. Louis Mavericks Hockey #4). St. Louis Mavericks Hockey star Michael Boone needs to stay on his coach’s good side, so he could be traded to Nashville. Being the getaway driver for the coach’s daughter, Jolie Gizzard, at her wedding, was not the way to go about it.

I like Jolie. She is a microbiologist. She feels her father always wanted a boy. Michael is a good guy. He wants to move back home because his brother, Andy, has cancer. He wants to be able to help take care of Andy and his family. Plus, he’s watching his sister’s four-year-old son, Joey. He is a good family guy.

Michael and Jolie get to know each other better while they are coaching a hockey camp for underprivileged kids. In addition, Jolie is one of the people helping take care of Joey while Michael travels with the team.

HARD HIT is a heart-warming read. It is skillfully written. It is a wonderful addition to the St. Louis Mavericks Hockey series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Love doesn't always have convenient timing.
When it comes to love you have to expect the unexpected.
Even though Boone's St. Louis team is having a great year, he's trying to get traded to Nashville to be by his family, especially his brother who has cancer. He never expected to be basically carjacked by a hot redheaded runaway bride. He didn't expect to find a closeness with someone that went beyond just a physical connection. He also never expected that person to be his coach's daughter.
Jolie is so close to finishing her doctorate program, she doesn't want to marry a man she doesn't love, and she doesn't want to ever put anything - especially a man- ahead of her work again. Then, when she least expected it, along came Boone.
This story is sweet, fun, and will definitely tug at your heartstrings- especially by Boone's 4-year-old nephew, Joey.

I was excited to immerse myself in Hard Hit. I had read and enjoyed some of the other books in the series. Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera did not disappoint with Hard Hit, captivating me from start to finish with their intricate storytelling. There is a seamlessness to the writing that we don’t often get in co-written books.

Having been introduced to Boone in previous books, I was curious to discover what the authors had in store for this empathetic and supportive man, who always lent a helping hand to his teammates and their families. He was, in my opinion, the quintessential hero.
The palpable chemistry between Boone and Jolie was a highlight of the book. Their relationship progressed naturally, and Jolie's character experienced significant growth throughout the narrative. I found myself rooting for their well-deserved happy ending.
