The Stars Are Falling

Today, Black Metal Daily is proud to premiere the third streaming single from an album that will chew you up and spit you out in ways you cannot imagine – ‘Tähdet Tippuvat’, by Finnish black metal punks QWÄLEN.

Exploding in a burst of kinetic energy and reeking sulphur back in 2017, the five piece (featuring members of Kürøishi, Nistikko, Kantamus, Ø, Dumathoin and Akma) summon a force that’s as much Dødsrit and Darkthrone as it is Terveet Kadët. Their debut album Unohdan sinut focused on self-portrayal, dealing with loss, building anew, abandonment, misanthropy and Satan, but their upcoming second strike Syvä Hiljaisuus expands on that. This time the sheep-like nature of humanity, the inevitability of destruction, the acceptance of being faulted and surrendering to a greater force are explored at maximum savage impact. In an album already seething with violence, the rapturously nihilistic assault of ‘Tähdet Tippuvat’ is a knife held at your throat and rusted with blood as relentless aggression, freezing darkness and a vicious hardcore punk snarl combine with lethal, redlining danger… and shades of crepuscular majesty. The world is getting darker, our end is nigh, and this is the devastating soundtrack.

About the track, guitarist Samuli and vocalist Eetu say:

“Written in the beginning of covid, the feelings of isolation and uncertainty possibly poured out into the song. In the studio this piece was a struggle to get done properly and finishing it left the band feeling as if we would never wish to play it again. Struggle brought fruition and the song became a lot more aggressive and impactful than it was originally. The first song written for the new album.” – Samuli

“I was watching Twin Peaks: The Return and there was this beautiful scene where trees were glowing red. I wanted to write about that picture and connect it with northern nature. As a child, I spent a lot of time in the forest, examining moose antlers and skulls found on the ground. The cycle of life, self-acceptance and the uncertainty of the future.” – Eetu

Recorded at Waiting Room Recording Studio in Tampere with Mikael Neves (who also handled mixing duties) and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios, Syvä Hiljaisuus won’t be what you expect – but it will be what you deserve. Total carnage. Dive in.

Syvä Hiljaisuus releases March 10th via Time To Kill Records.
