“Angel would want “alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice.”
The victims of crime are most often people who had limited complicity in the situation beyond voting for pro-crime politicians, but generally did not realize that is what they were doing. Some wake up after being mugged, but then again there are the hard-core believers who walk away from an attack still believing in their own moral inferiority and the moral superiority of criminals. And some never walk away at all. This is one of those cases.
Jen Angel, a beloved local bakery owner and social justice community activist, died on Thursday from injuries she suffered in a violent robbery, according to her close friends. She was 48…
Angel was well known in the Bay Area as a champion of social justice. She was born in 1975 and raised in suburban Cleveland, Ohio.
She established a social justice event production organization called Aid and Abet. She was also the publisher of Clamor Magazine, a bi-monthly alternative magazine. She was “deeply involved in organizing work for media justice and building a better world,” her friends wrote.
The overriding emphasis here is on this woman’s role as a leftist activist. And even so much so that her family insists that the criminal justice system shouldn’t arrest or prosecute the killer.
Her friends wrote that Angel would want “alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice. Jen’s family and close friends ask that the media respect this request and carry forward the story of her life with celebration and clarity about the world she aimed to build. Do not use her legacy of care and community to further inflame narratives of fear, hatred, and vengeance, nor to advance putting public resources into policing, incarceration, or other state violence that perpetuates the cycles of violence that resulted in this tragedy.”
Whatever she might or might not have wanted, we don’t just arrest murderers for the sake of the victim or the victim’s family. This isn’t a Muslim country where the family of the killer can pay some blood money to the victim’s family and everything is squared. Society has a compelling interest in putting away killers for the sake of their future victims.
But I have to wonder if Jen would really have been on board with giving her killer a pass. Let’s see how she died.
On Monday, Angel was sitting inside her car behind a bank on Webster Street in Oakland when a thief broke into the car and grabbed her purse. The robber darted into a getaway vehicle that was waiting nearby, police said.
“The victim exited their vehicle and attempted to retrieve their stolen belongings from the individual. While the victim struggled for their belongings, they were knocked to the ground and sustained injuries,” the Oakland Police Department told KRON4.
Angel was dragged by the getaway car. The entire incident happened in broad daylight.
After all the socjus garbage, she refused to give up her stuff to the robber and fought back.
Somehow I’m skeptical that if she were alive, she would be any more willing to give him a pass.
Most people don’t know what they’ll do in that kind of situation until it happens. Personality and even politics can be poor predictors. Unlikely people freeze up and unlikely people fight back. She fought back. And while she may have spent her life pushing destructive ideas, in her last moments she did something courageous.
Her family’s spokesperson would like to forget all that and hug criminals. And that’s a shame because she may have lived like a leftist, but she didn’t die like a leftist.

at least she showed the right mindset at the end,, even though it meant she died.
this is mental disease. Much like the CA woman whose husband deliberately ran his Tesla off a cliff in order to murder her and their two children….she doesn’t want her husband to be prosecuted for the attempted murders.
The prosecutor says he doesn’t need the wife’s permission. If she and the children had all died, would her friends and family say that she wouldn’t have wanted him to go to prison? If her husband had been successful in murdering the children, but the wife survived, what would she do then?

I expect they believe in unicorns too. It is well know fact that criminals released from jail commit crimes again almost immediately and often worse ones as well. Violence in society is not caused by over policing, it is caused by greed and a willingness to involve in crime to get wealth without working for it. In other words to take what other people have worked honestly to obtain.
somehistory says
Criminals released usually commit worse crimes and have extended knowledge obtained from other hardened criminals in lockup. Very few of the guilty change their ways and leave crime after release.
I can’t understand why she wants this creep who tried to murder her children to walk free.
Hoi Polloi says
You are absolutely right about the mental health of both the victim and her family who want to inflict a murderer on the rest of us.
Thanks for the Tesla/doctor case update. A woman who wants to reinsert the man who tried to murder her children into their lives with no consequences to him should lose custody.

the left votes for the dead, why wouldn’t they also speak for them?

I was born and raised in Oakland eighty years ago, before it became a drug infested, crime ridden Ghetto Hell. I kinda feel sorry for the woman, but her own, delusional, self-destructive beliefs led to her ultimate fate at the hands of those she mistakenly assumed to be “victims”. My family and I had to flee Oakland for our own safety, partly due to the so called “Social Activists” who poised the polluted the culture and society of cities such as Oakland for over sixty years, it is a tragedy for all concerned

I can agree with “restorative justice”, if you give her life back, unknown scumbag.
But you won’t do that, will you? If caught, you will utterly turn your back as soon as exiting the Pen, and continue in your life of narcissistic predation. Maybe try to land some reparations?

I actually think this ‘restorative justice’ becomes ‘poetic justice’ (to steal the name of a woke Khalistan organization in Canada) when these woketards end up slaughtering their own supporters. Of course, since they cheat heavily w/ the vote w/ various techniques, from gerrymandering to dead voters to bulk mail-in ballots, they don’t really need live voters in order to win an election, at least in Leningrad-by-the-bay
I’m also not one of those ‘we-are-better-than-that’ people. If a person goes through life rooting for criminals by shilling for them as ‘victims of society’, I’m not remotely sorry if and when it catches up w/ them. In an ideal situation, only they would be victims of such criminals
Hoi Polloi says
Agreed. No sympathy for those who inflict criminals on us.

Lemme see, restorative justice? Um, can the victim be brought back to life? If they manage this the lone period of brain death might even leave her more intelligent than before. But, since that is impossible, the only other restoration might be to either enslave her killer to her immediate relatives for the rest of his life after a sex change. He gets to play her role. Or perhaps we simply fix the equity by killing him.

How can you have RESTORATIVE JUSTICE if you don’t know who the criminal is or catch them?
I never thought about apologizing to the criminals that violently beat and rob you. I’am sure that makes them a better person.
Or maybe they just don’t care and just wanted your stuff and beings there is no PUNISHMENT for their criminal action they will just continue to do it.
I’am sorry for her and her families loss. Let’s hope they catch this criminal before another family has to suffer this.

Restorative justice is, effectively, just another name for rehabilitation, one of the four (and there are only four) reasons to punish someone for committing a crime. The other three are, in no particular order, deterrence (both specific and general), retribution (N.B., society has a right to exact a penalty from those who transgress in a criminal way from society’s laws and customs) and restraint.
As is well known in the legal profession and related professions like that of social workers, rehabilitation (restorative justice) virtually never works with hard-core criminals. It is easily the weakest reason of the four reasons to punish. Indeed, it’s pretty much a total loser but still taught in law schools as a reason to punish to this very day (N.B., law schools are almost an entire waste of time and money and do much harm—lawyers should be made the old fashion way, to wit, apprentice oneself to a law firm, do the nuts and bolts work for a couple of years, and all the while studying for the bar exam).
So, we have yet another term for something that virtually never works. Leftism is superb at finding all kinds of unworkable solutions for sundry problems, including many problems that Leftism itself creates, a current example being all the confusion Leftthink is bringing to children with its voluminously woke sexual crap.
Restorative justice (rehabilitation) is a subset of the idiocy which is social justice. No society needs social justice, which will always result in bogus social engineering and which in turn will mean too much government and an Orwellian and Marxist emphasis on equal results and not equal opportunity.
