Some protestors also tried to blind officers by shining green lasers into their eyes.
The emboldened Antifa types took their show on the road to Georgia in the battle over what they call “Cop City.” The Leftist attackers have been waging a guerrilla war with firebombs, lasers and guns, but local law enforcement isn’t as crippled as the cops and the feds were in Portland. One of these folks was shot. And others are discovering that their usual tactics aren’t getting them where they want to be.
As Front Page Magazine previously documented, those tactics include providing cover for the violence using “street medics” and “legal observers.” That’s not flying in Georgia.
An attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center is among the 23 protesters who have been charged with domestic terrorism after they allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails and fireworks at a future Atlanta police training facility, cops said Monday.
Thomas Webb Jurgens, 28, was one of the nearly two dozen people detained on Sunday in what police have described as a “coordinated attack” on the still-under-construction Atlanta Public Safety Training Center — dubbed “Cop City.”
Arson has been a leading leftist tactic in this battle. And is commonplace in lefty ecoterrorism and riots.
The ordeal unfolded when the protesters started throwing Molotov cocktails, fireworks, rocks and bricks at officers during the demonstration.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum described the flare-up as “coordinated” and said multiple pieces of construction equipment were set on fire at the 85-acre site outside of the city.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said some protestors also tried to blind officers by shining green lasers into their eyes.
The SPLC is predictably standing behind its man.
“An employee at the SPLC was arrested while acting — and identifying — as a legal observer on behalf of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG). The employee is an experienced legal observer, and their arrest is not evidence of any crime, but of heavy-handed law enforcement intervention against protesters.
“This is part of a months-long escalation of policing tactics against protesters and observers who oppose the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest to build a police training facility. The SPLC has and will continue to urge de-escalation of violence and police use of force against black, brown and Indigenous communities — working in partnership with these communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements and advance the human rights of all people.”
Jurgens is a white guy. Not a whole lot of minorities share a last name with a prominent Nazi.
Most of those arrested are, based on the mugshots, white. Few are from Georgia. One is from France. The SPLC decided to back the rioters and the statement was released under the hashtag #StopCopCity. All of this is popular with leftist donors, I’m sure, but the SPLC is burning the last of its relationship with law enforcement. And that is a good thing for Americans.

Yes, when reading about this “lawyer” with the lying splc, it was easy to see that the pd there will not be likely to consult with that corrupt business. Perhaps the fbi will also be forced to reconsider reliance on them for ‘lists’ of so-called “hate groups.*
The splc seems to be a “hate the cops” group and willing to cause widespread injury, incuding blindness, to people who are just doing their jobs.
BTeboe says
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which has absolutely nothing to do with poverty or law, needs to be sued out of existence for defamation. Talk about a hate group – this organization has it down pat.

Of course this is yet another indictment of the decrepit and deceitful SPLC. No surprise here. But it also functions as an indictment of what has become of the FBI because of its stupid and vile reliance upon the SPLC. And this is the “bigger story.”
America continues to sink. This is the “biggest story” for all those who can still see and think—and who retain a love of liberty. .
Kepha says
Absolutely. The SPLC once did a service in calling attention to the activities of the Klan and similar groups, and standing for the truly disadvantaged. Now, it seeks to become the chief procurator for a Communist America.

Thugs. No surprise, though.

True! SPLC is mainly about antifa in the courtroom and in the public square

The SPLC is abiding and working with terrorists ,they get a free ride with the FBI because they are on the side of the “progressive” movement of the democratic party. The FBI is too busy checking out parents at local PTA meeting that are upset at drag story hour read to 5 year olds on the public dime in public schools. They (the FBI ,famous but incompetent ) are too busy arresting with swat squads at pre-dawn raids middle age Catholic men in front of their families . who pray in front of abortion mills ..Family men who were willing to turn themselves in for questioning to local police with their lawyers swore statements dated before the raids.
brenrod says
Lol, the splc is probably still considered a credible source for identifying “radical extremist” groups and individuals for gov and media censorship.
OLD GUY says
Why would the Southern Poverty Law Center want to destroy law and order? Don’t lawyers take an oath to uphold the law and the constitution of the United States of America.
Let me see would I rather have POLICE trained to do their job of law enforcement or ANTIFA loot and burn protecting me and my property? If SPLC doesn’t support training of police officers and following the law, what do they support?

It appears that Thomas Webb Jurgens is a member “in good standing” of both the Georgia and Florida Bar Associations:

Re: Fla Bar, I could tell you a few things, but let me just say, this info on him doesn’t mean much.
He hasn’t been disciplined as yet….but maybe after this arrest, he might be.

Fully understand, somehistory.
It takes time for a complaint to weave its way through the professional boards.
