The current weightloss strategies have failed you.

Its time to address your true hunger

Hungry For More Weight Loss

Rethink everything you have been told about weight loss and redefine your relationship with food, your body and with yourself.

  • Identify what unmet emotional and spiritual need your hunger represents
  • Understand why we soothe our emotional hunger with drinking, smoking, shopping, gambling, over-working and yes… with food.”
  • Learn to distinguish emotional from physical hunger
  • Reconciling your relationship with food and our bodies
  • Learn how to use food to nourish, not soothe

Hey, I’m Dr. Adrienne, a reformed slim fast junkie!

As a mother, a mental health advocate and former victim of pink slim fast, I cannot be more thrilled that we have shed light on “diet culture,” and the harmful effects of a society obsessed with our shape, our size and the number on the scale.

But as a physician with over fifteen years of experience, I am equally concerned about the counterculture that vilifies the desire to lose weight. The messaging has now shifted to something like,

“Hey, we hate diet culture, so eat that piece of cake, you have had a hard day, you deserve it!”

And you know what, if you want that cake, go ahead and eat it. But is that the messaging we want to hear? Is that what we would teach our children?

That they should seek external sources for comfort and soothing? Because let’s face it, whether it is cake, or wine, or cigarettes, or sex, or shopping, external sources of comfort only make things worse.

Why?

Because they DO NOT scratch the itch. Which is why we go back for more , , , , , and more and more…

So, how about this? Eat because you are hungry,

NOT

because you are having a bad day or are experiencing difficult emotions.

Because you know what, you CAN handle difficult emotions and maybe

what you really need for comfort, is to call your bestie ?

I will also say this.

I understand that “weight loss” is triggering for many. Truth be told, society is not only to blame, so is the medical profession. Unfortunately,we as doctors have mis-managed (and continue to mismanage) this conversation for decades, and have harmed many along the way.

But, we are mistaken if we confuse a desire to lose weight with diet culture because the very things that are good for our weight are good for our bodies and good for our minds. So, if you have gained weight in the past 2 years, (like the nearly 50% of Americans who have), or have struggled with maintaining a healthy weight and are now interested i taking back your health, there is nothing shameful or vain or diet-culture-ey (I just made that word up) about trying.

And if you just can’t get past the words “weight loss,” well then, don’t try to lose weight. Get good sleep, move your body, feel your feelings and eat like you give a d*@! about yourself. And… and if you happen to loss weight while you’re at it. Well, bonus points?

And this is why I wrote “Hungry For More”.

What They Are Saying

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: Found a piece of myself in every chapter The message in every chapter hit home for me! The emotional eating that I had shoved under the carpet, was recognized and understood as an immigrant, a mother, a driven career woman, an Iranian Jewish daughter, and so much more. Thank you Adrienne for connecting the dots for me.

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: More than Just a Diet Book When I heard Dr. Youdim is writing a book, I assumed it is going to be written about dieting. When I read the book, I realized how wrong I was. This book is not a self help diet book. It is not to teach you what and how to eat. It is not to tell you how to count your calories or how to eat less carbs or fat. Reading this book, you can tell that Dr. Youdim has been dedicated and in addition to her experience in her field of medicine, she has spent a lot of hours studying the science behind the stress of eating and weight gains. Dr. Youdim understands and has written a book about subjects that resonates with many of us and our feelings. I appreciated her honesty and openness to read about her own personal experiences. She has touched all of us readers, in one way or the other. I identified with several segments of the book myself. As a young child I always felt I was heavier than my friends at school and sometimes if asked, I wanted to lie about my age. In my teen years, when I first came to this country, I missed my family and my friends so much that I gained a lot of weight in a very short time. Being a student in a new country and a new school with limited knowledge of English language, trying to prove myself, obviously, didn’t help.I highly recommend Dr. Youdim’s book as all readers will find a section or a topic that they can identify with. If not several topics, at least one that will give comfort to the reader that regardless of what issue it is that he or she has to overcome; starting a new job and having to prove oneself; starting a new family; having and raising children; insecurities; not having enough time for yourself and your family; and more, he or she is not alone in their struggles.I am looking forward to her next book.

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: What are you REALLY hungry for? This book is everything. So much of our struggles with food and weight loss have nothing to do with food and so much more to do with our emotions and what's missing in life. This book gets to the deeper layers of our habits and the deep meaning behind food, tradition, eating, and how all those are wrapped up in a complex web.Dr. Youdim is candid and vulnerable with her own struggles which makes this book so relatable. So many times I couldn't help but say, "me too" as I was reading along.Do yourself a favor and read this book and give it to all your friends. It will feed your soul.

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: This book is as real as our collective human experience! I can't say enough about this book, about the depths of understanding human nature and our vulnerabilities found in each story. Reading each page, you can't help but feel understood, acknowledged, moved, transformed and grow. Dr Youdim is not only a brilliant physician to be able to so naturally tap into the deeper layers of "why?", she's also a captivating writer. I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone.

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: This is not a diet book. There is so much to learn from this book! Dr. Youdim shares personal stories and scientific observations to teach us more about hunger and weight loss. So many emotions are behind the feeling of hunger. I can find myself in every chapter. The chapter that really hit home for me is hunger for boundaries. My most favorite quote from the book is “time does not exist, it is created “. I love taking my time for each chapter and think about each chapter after reading it. This is a MUST read book for everyone! I would definitely give it way more than 5 stars !

Hungry for More: Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss From the Inside Out: This book is food for your soul! It is rare to read a self-help book and not have to sit with the uncomfortable emotions that arise as a result of "doing the work". This book did the complete opposite for me. I ended the last chapter feeling like I had just received the most sincere and warmest hug from the author herself. This is not a diet book written for a limited population of people that struggle with weight management. It is a book for the majority of the population who's souls are starving as a result of both societal and self imposed expectations we place on ourselves, traumas we may not even realize we've suffered and an ongoing desire to be perfect for so many. As a result, no matter how much we do, we never feel full! Each and every story was so relatable. To read my own feelings and thoughts translated so eloquently through other's stories truly normalized many of my own personal struggles.I have shared this book with my college age daughter and her friends. I genuinely feel this can be a gamechanger for so many young people and possible save years of unnecessary, painful emotions with the empowering information shared!
