The Holocaust

Wikipedia • The Holocaust, known in Hebrew as the Shoah, was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe, around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population.

Before World War II, everyday life for Jews varied greatly. After Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power, Jewish life in Germany and throughout Europe changed forever. This narrated compilation of home movies provides glimpses into what was lost during the Holocaust through scenes of people walking and socializing in the street, dining in a cafe, celebrating holidays and birthdays, playing in a yard, vacationing, walking into school, exiting their synagogue, and more. The footage was shot in Poland, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, the Soviet Union, and Trinidad. 00:00 Jewish Life before World War II 00:51 Benjamin Gasul, Warsaw, 1939 02:59 Albert Günther Hess, Germany, 1936 04:02 Schermeister Family, Denmark, 1929 04:49 Marcus Tennenbaum, Austria, 1938 05:43 Lederer and Bruck Families, Czechoslovakia, 1939-1940 06:47 Fuchs family, Czechoslovakia, 1933 07:28 De Groot family, The Netherlands, 1940 07:47 Unger Family, Poland, 1934 08:08 Lieberman Family, Poland, 1935 8:46 Sam Rafel, Poland, 1937 10:05 Katz family, Lithuania and Poland, 1939 11:37 Julien Bryan, Germany, 1937 13:05 Myron and Pauline Falk, Soviet Union, 1935 14:49 David Glick, Trinidad, 1939 15:35 Kurtz family, Poland, 1938 17:00 Wolman family, Poland, 1932 18:33 Herz family, Poland, 1937 19:11 Klein-Sommer family, Slovakia, 1932 20:00 Benjamin Gasul, Atlantic Ocean, 1939 20:19 De Groot family, The Netherlands, 1941 21:06 Roman Vishniac, Germany, 1926-1927 21:25 Schur family, Austria, 1930s 22:33 Verdoner family, The Netherlands ,1939 22:53 Albert Günther Hess, Germany, 1930 23:12 Kan family, The Netherlands, 1938 24:15 Lieberman Family, Czechoslovakia, 1935 24:30 Julien Bryan, Poland, 1936 26:37 Verdoner family, The Netherlands, 1940 27:25 Marcus Tennenbaum, Atlantic Ocean, 1939
