-4* for Sam and Avery

I'm a huge fan of Maxwell clan. Everyone's book so far has been a hit with me, and this one too start out strong but kinda lost its spark in the middle. Something about Avery bugged me wrong and even now since I finished the story I can't put my finger on what it was.

I'm in love with Sam. He was such a sweetheart and the way he loved her was everything. I'm not sure why she fought him in the beginning because who in their right mind would turn down a successful, generous and loving man like him?! Not me that's for sure.

And now I'm left with excitement to see how the female line of Maxwell finds their HEA.

Omg!!! This book had me hooked from start to finish.

Avery, left Sam when she was younger because she didn't want her problems to become his problems. She has worked hard for everything she has accomplished but due to her business partner she lost everything. She decides to head back to Chicago and rebuild her life, what she never expected was to have her ex as a roommate.

Sam, after years of working with doctors without borders, he is back home in Chicago. There is a 50% chance he will stay forever and a 50% chance he will leave, but he is only willing to stay if the hospital gives him what he wants. When he decides to get a place he never expected that he will be sharing it with his ex.

Omg!!! I absolutely loved this book, it had everything from sweet, to comical and then to freaken steamy. Loved how Sam and Avery got to know each other again, the way he stood by her side and helped her fight and get back everything that was hers.

This is the 6th and possibly final book in Hagen’s Maxwell Brothers series. I say possibly because even though with this book all six Maxwell brothers are either married or engaged, she still has their close female cousins Reese and Kimberly to find their happily ever after and I’m not certain whether she’ll release them as part of the Maxwell Brothers series or a new series? As the blurb says this is a second chance at love, roommates trope. I loved this story between youngest brother Sam Maxwell M.D. who has spent much of this series overseas as part of Doctors Without Borders and Avery his high school sweetheart. That said the idea these two characters even entertained the idea that they could be platonic roommates 16 years after high school graduation was just plain silly. I mean they weren’t a casual fling. They were a couple for their final two years of high school. They were each other’s first everything. Does anyone really ever get over their first love? When Avery’s mother was diagnosed with cancer towards the end of her senior year and they had to move from Chicago, she regretfully broke up with Sam because she didn’t want her circumstances to drag him down and prevent him from achieving his dream of becoming a doctor. A broken hearted Sam reluctantly honored Avery’s wish to not contact her. His life went on with college, med. Shool and then years serving with Doctors Without Borders. So as this story opens its been sixteen years since the former high school lovers have laid eyes on one another.
Now 16 years later Sam has given up his globe trotting ways with Doctors without Borders and returned to Chicago. His original purpose for returning home was to take his previously long-distance relationship with a fellow doctor to the next level only to discover she’d been seeing someone else on the side. Or maybe she was seeing Sam on the side? Either way Sam has remained in his hometown of Chicago taking a job in a local hospital much to the delight of his large close-knit family. But Sam has one foot in and one foot out the door, not committed to remaining in the Windy City despite his family ties. Much hinges on whether the hospital agrees to open the free clinic for poor people he’s been lobbying them for.
After Avery’s mother’s cancer had gone into remission she migrated to the West Coast. She pursued her lifelong dream of designing jewelry and had begun a fairly successful career opening a store in San Diego and creating a strong on-line customer base. But Avery made the mistake of trusting Sofia a woman she met and made her business partner. Avery signed a contract Sofia’s lawyer drew up without having her own lawyer review it that allowed Sofia to legally rob her blind without giving Avery any legal recourse. Sofia took the money and headed to N.Y.C. where she was opening her own business. Avery was left without the money to pay the lease on her store or the manufacturers who produced her jewelry designs. As the story opens she’s broke, deep in debt and sleeping on her high school BFF Alana’s pull out couch in Chicago while trying to start her life over.
Avery is looking for a studio apartment to rent and puts something up on her high school FB page to that effect. Sam who is also looking to move out of his brother Travis’s boutique hotel finds an upscale loft apartment and invites Avery to share it with him. They both tell themselves their feelings for each other are in the past and they can just be friends and roommates together. But the moment they see each other after over a decade and a half apart their attraction returns with a vengeance and even though neither will admit it at the time it’s game over. Avery hesitates to take the apartment with Sam because she’s afraid she’s so attracted to him that she’ll jump his bones. But with no other options (and if you’ve ever experienced the cost of rent in Chicago you can understand why) she agrees to become Sam’s roommate. Avery tries hard to fight her attraction to Sam telling herself her life is a mess and she needs to concentrate on getting her new business up and running so she can support herself. She’s also concerned that she’d be just a rebound for Sam after breaking up with the woman he moved to Chicago to be with. Sam after seeing the gorgeous sweet woman has become has every cell in his body crying out to make her his again. Eventually her attraction to the gorgeous and charming man she’s always loved is too powerful to ignore and they become lovers. Sam is full speed ahead with planning to build a life together with Avery but Avery even though she and Sam are sleeping together and she’s having the best sex of her life is still reluctant to make long term plans with Sam. Part of it is the whole rebound thing and the other is because Avery grew up poor and has had more than her share of struggles she can’t conceive of the idea she could actually realize her dream of having Sam Maxwell forever. The couple experiences a few rough spots in their developing relationship but with the help of Sam’s siblings and especially his cousin Kimberly they do of course find their path to happily ever after. There’s a very sweet romantic ending for Sam and Avery but if this is the end of the Maxwell Brothers series I thought it was a little lacking as the series closing bookend for my tastes. Hopefully with Kimberly and then Reese’s stories still to be told Hagen will allow us to see the Maxwell brothers and their significant others relationships continue to grow as secondary characters.

The latest addition to the Maxwell Brothers Series is Give Me Forever, which tells the story of Sam and Avery, a couple whose love was interrupted by timing. After about a decade apart, they reunite, and their second chance at love is beautifully written. They seem to have been meant for each other all along, and the chemistry between them is palpable.

Typically I am not a fan of Second Chance or Friends to Lovers romances but if anyone is going to get me to read and enjoy it is Layla Hagen. This was a quick and fun read. I enjoyed Sam and Avery and of course the Maxwell Family Antics.

Sam & Avery’s Second-Chance Romance Is A Sweet Read! Fate Brings Them Together As Roommates Years After Sharing The Stage As Prom King & Queen. They Had Both Left Chicago, But 16 Years Later, They Are Both Returning For A New Start.

This is the sixth book in The Maxwell Brothers series about the Maxwell family of Chicago.

ABOUT THE MAXWELL FAMILY:

The legendary Maxwell family is known for the famous bookstores they once owned. As the series opens, it was ten years ago that those stores were sold off as the next generation went off to pursue their own dreams. Though each of the Maxwell kids received a trust fund from the proceeds of the sale, their sense of hard work kept them from becoming lazy.

Emmett and Lena Maxwell are enjoying their retirement now, but they worked hard as they raised their six boys. Beatrice, Emmett’s mother, had lost her husband years earlier, and she stepped in to help with the task of raising the children. Emmett’s younger brother Harvey had worked for the family business as well. Though retired in London now, he had turned to work to nurse his broken heart after his wife died, frequently traveling abroad. His two daughters were left with Emmett and Lena as they grew up, adding to their large tight-knit household.

Declan is the oldest Maxwell brother. He has a take-charge personality and a practical approach to life. He is a successful attorney.

Luke is second in birth order and three years younger. He is Declan’s opposite, always trying to cause trouble. Luke is closest in age to their cousins, Kimberly and Reese. He owns his own architecture company.

Tate is the third oldest. Like Declan, his mother considered him a “trusted general.” He developed a love of wine as he grew up – something that he and his father had bonded over. He is CEO of Maxwell Wineries and a skilled as a businessman, but his people skills, in general, aren’t as sharp. He is the single dad of nine-year-old Paisley.

Tyler comes next, and he lives for hockey. He plays goalie for the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blades. He enjoys getting rowdy and believes in trying everything once.

Travis is fearless and independent. He is celebrating the success of his startup, seeing all his hard work finally pay off. His personal life takes a backseat to work; he hasn’t had time for anything more than one-night stands for the past three years. He sometimes gets into trouble, but he is also there to offer a helping hand when needed.

Sam is sometimes quieter than his brothers, but he has a rowdy side as well. He works abroad for Doctors Without Borders.

Three of the brothers keep offices in the same downtown Chicago building, making it easy to grab a drink together after work. Sam and Tyler travel for work but visit whenever they can.

Kimberly, their cousin, lives overseas in Paris.

Reese, Kimberly’s sister, lives in Chicago and is nursing a broken heart. She always enjoyed spending time in the family bookstores growing up and is happy to begin working in their only remaining bookstore – the flagship store that started it all. Their Gran had kept the solitary store for sentimental reasons.

To date, The Maxwell Brothers series includes:
1. Promise Me Forever (Tate & Lexi’s story)
2. Hold Me Forever (Tyler & Kendra’s story)
3. Show Me Forever (Declan & Liz’s story)
4. Kiss Me Forever (Luke & Megan’s story)
5. Love Me Forever (Travis & Bonnie’s story)
6. Give Me Forever (Sam & Avery’s story)
7. Coming Soon – Kimberly’s story

FROM PROMISE ME FOREVER, BOOK 1:

This book opens as summer break commences for nine-year-old Paisley.

Tate Maxwell, thirty-four, is the CEO of Maxwell Wineries. The company is his passion, but his daughter Paisley will always be his number one priority. He got married just over ten years ago right after college. He was young and naïve, believed he and Nora were in love, but he eventually discovered that had all been an illusion. Nora had given birth to Paisley almost ten years ago, but modeling had been her true love. Tate was left to raise Paisley alone, and though there might be no love lost, the failure of his marriage weighs on him. He wants the world for his daughter, and he punishes himself for the fact that she barely has a mother, save for one or two visits each year. As the summertime nannies come and go over the years, he realizes he needs something more stable for Paisley for the daytime house while he is at work – a female figure that can serve as a constant in her life. He turns to an agency to help find the perfect nanny – one that can continue on beyond the end of summer break.

Wow! Tate and Lexi sizzle in this single dad and nanny romance. Their sweet and sexy story is infused with a keen sense of family and loyalty. The Maxwell family of Chicago is introduced here; watch for more to come. Readers get immersed in the Chicago setting – downtown, the lakefront, Lincoln Park, etc. The story is wonderfully written. The plot is fairly simple as it pertains to Tate and Lexi. The story is character-driven, and there are a number of characters, each with their own stories spinning in the background. Collectively, there is a lot happening. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Tate and Lexi. I rate this book five stars.

FROM HOLD ME FOREVER, BOOK 2:

This book opens in early October, about one month after Travis sold his startup. Tate is engaged to Lexi, and Tate’s daughter Paisley is now ten.

Tyler Maxwell, thirty-one, lives for hockey and family. He is the fourth of six boys, and his family is very tight. Tyler doesn’t have time for relationships because his career is just too demanding. At his age, he is lucky to still be playing, but the fact that he is the best goalie in the league helps. He is signed with the Chicago Blades, but for now, he is benched. Tyler doesn’t regret standing up for his cousin Reese last month, but her ex-fiancé not only injured him, but Malcolm also staged it all on video to get the maximum damage. The video had gone viral, and the Blades’ management isn’t happy about it – the video was bad for their image and turned off sponsors. Tyler would be off the ice anyways due to his shoulder injury, and he takes it all in stride. He is excited about the volunteer work that management has set up for him in the meantime to improve his image. Coaching underprivileged pre-teens is right up his alley – he is comfortable with kids thanks to all the time he has spent with his niece Paisley. Teaching kids to play hockey, and absorbing all their energy, should prove to be fun.

Tyler and Kendra’s steamy hockey romance sizzles. It is another great story about the tight-knit Maxwell family. The Maxwells are vibrant and alive with history and controversy – watch for more to come. The story is nicely written, although it sometimes dwells a little too much on the minutia. The plot is fairly simple. The characters feel real. They are three-dimension and easy to connect with. The story is told in first person. The POV alternates between Tyler and Kendra. I rate this book four stars.

FROM SHOW ME FOREVER, BOOK 3:

This book opens in April in Chicago. Tate’s daughter Paisley is still ten. Both Tate and Tyler are now engaged.

Declan Maxwell, thirty-eight, works hard to maintain his reputation as the best divorce attorney in Chicago and beyond, so he values his downtime. The long hours devoted to the job during the week are rewarded with his strict no-work policy on the weekends. The oldest of six boys, he has a take-charge attitude and a pragmatic outlook. The serious-minded attorney credits his family for keeping him grounded. His parents’ marriage has happily withstood the test of time, but their example, in Declan’s experience, is more an exception than a rule. Declan doesn’t see himself ever settling down. He hasn’t ever felt compelled to introduce a woman to his family. He dates casually, but relationships are not for him.

Declan and Liz’s sweet and steamy story is about family and following your dreams. The Maxwell family saga continues in the background as Declan finds himself wanting things he never desired before. He falls fast and hard for Liz, whose work ethic and determination impress him. They share a love of family, and Declan’s steadfast support has Liz swooning. The story is nicely written. The plot is somewhat simple. The characters are nicely developed. The story is told in first person. The POV alternates between Declan and Liz. I rate this book four stars.

FROM KISS ME FOREVER, BOOK 4:

As the story opens, it is July in Chicago. Paisley’s eleventh birthday approaches. Just over one year has passed since Tate and Lexi met in book one. Note that in Show Me Forever, book three, Megan is introduced with the last name Holmes, not Pierce.

Luke Maxwell, thirty-five, loves his life. He could live off of his trust fund and party every day, but he always wanted to make his own way. His ingrained work ethic combined with his love of buildings led him into architecture. Today his name is well-known in the field, and he owns Supreme Architecture, one of the best architecture firms in the country. He houses his firm in the same downtown building that hosts some of his brothers. Declan, Tate, and Travis have offices in the La Salle Street building, too, and the brothers all enjoy gathering for an impromptu coffee by day or an evening drink at the rooftop bar. Luke loves the city, and his penthouse affords him some beautiful views. He works hard during the week, but his weekends are for downtime. For years he has avoided relationships, having been burned when he fell hard and fast for Cammy when they were both too young, but he enjoys hookups and casual dates. He always has time for family, though. Luke is known as the troublemaker, the crazy ringleader that Tyler, Travis, and Sam followed growing up. As a boss, Luke is relaxed, but when presenting to a client, he transforms into a commanding and confident professional. Women find his confidence and charm hard to resist.

Luke and Megan’s workplace age gap romance is a sweet and sexy read. Their one-night stand as strangers turns into a workplace fiasco when it is discovered that Luke is her new boss. The Maxwell family drama continues in the background as the couple falls in love. Megan catches the playboy’s attention, and he has her breaking her rules. The story is nicely written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are nicely developed. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Luke and Megan. I rate this book four stars.

FROM LOVE ME FOREVER, BOOK 5:

Travis’s story with Bonnie actually gets a brief introduction in book four when it overlaps with Luke’s story, but nothing is lost if you haven’t read the previous book in the series. The brief preview ends with a cliffhanger.

The story opens in January. The four eldest Maxwell brothers are now all off the market – either engaged or married. Luke and Tyler have yet to set dates for their weddings. Only Travis and Sam remain single, though Sam has been returning to Chicago more frequently thanks to his mystery woman. Paisley is eleven. Just over a year and a half has passed since the series opened with Tate’s story.

Travis Maxwell, roughly thirty, is known for his workaholic tendencies. Like his siblings, he learned the importance of a good work ethic at a young age. He lives by the family’s principle of having purpose, so when he sold his software company over a year ago and finally took some well-deserved time off, he found himself getting restless. After college, he devoted himself to building a software company that predicts stock market trends. It took all of his attention – he hadn’t had more than a one-night-stand in years – and despite the company’s huge success, the sale left him feeling like something was missing. He couldn’t sit still without finding a new purpose.

The sale had brought Travis back to Chicago, so he got an office in the same building with three of his older brothers. It had him thinking about the Maxwell family and what comes next for him. With the building that houses his grandmother’s only remaining bookstore still vacant after Reese’s engagement fell apart, he got to thinking about how he could take the space and make it into something new that the entire family could take pride in. Travis has been moving quickly, and things are falling into place for the opening of the small boutique hotel that will carry the family name.

Bonnie Wilson, twenty-nine, loves Oceanwell Bay. She is in the remote SoCal town for a twelve-month stint at Oceanwell Rescue, a clinic renowned for its work with wildlife. Bonnie gets to help nurse dolphins back to health as well as help a variety of other creatures. It is different from her job as a vet assistant in Chicago, where she mostly works with furry domestic animals. She had left behind a boyfriend, but he hadn’t been willing to wait for her so he broke up. The dating scene in Oceanwell is nonexistent, so when a handsome stranger has eyes for her, she eventually decides that she is entitled to a week of no-strings fun. Travis says he wants to see her when she returns to Chicago, but she isn’t completely surprised when he drops her the moment he leaves town.

Fate has other plans in mind for Bonnie when she discovers she is pregnant. As the couple continues to get to know one another, the Maxwell family cannot sit still on the sidelines once they hear the news. They face a few challenges, but Travis and Bonnie eventually earn a happy ending.

IN THIS BOOK:

The story opens in October. Bonnie’s due date is fast approaching. Paisley is a teenager and is about to become a big sister.

Sam Maxwell, about thirty-four, always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Unlike his siblings, he let his dreams take him far from home. He has worked for Doctors without Borders for years now, often in dangerous places. He always wanted a family one day - not a surprise since he is a pediatrician - but there hasn’t been a woman in his life that has tempted him to settle down. Living as he has hasn’t exactly made dating easy, either. He had begun a promising long-distance relationship with Olivia, a doctor based in Chicago, which finally led to his recent decision to settle down into a job back in his hometown. He quickly caught on that Olivia wasn’t on the same page as him, though. It turned out that she was seeing someone else, too. Being cheated on dampened his confidence a bit, but otherwise, Sam was happily not as broken up by it as he might have been.

Sam is now working at the state hospital in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. He has been staying at Travis’s new hotel, but he wants his own place near work to cut down on the commute because of his long hours. He wants to stay in the city near his family and make it work despite his recent heartbreak, but he also really wants to get back into giving back to those less fortunate in the community. Towards that end, he asked the hospital CEO, Dr. Robinson Matthew, to ask the board to approve the addition of a pro bono clinic. In the meantime, on a Facebook group with his high school friends, he finds the perfect loft to rent just three blocks from the hospital. It comes with a twist. It turns out Sam’s high school girlfriend is also interested in renting it, and she is hoping to find a roommate.

Avery Sinclair, about thirty-four, isn’t going to give up on her dream. Life hasn’t always been easy for her, but she never backed down from hard work. She is naturally proud and self-reliant. Her single mother raised Avery and her sister, and they’d gotten scholarships to a great private school in Chicago. Avery was always a great student and had dreams of going into art of design. She had been in love with Sam Maxwell for two years and they were even named prom king and queen, but her mother’s sudden illness led to a rushed breakup and a move out of state, so their relationship had ended sixteen years ago. Avery’s plans for her education were muddled as she worked to help nurse her mother back to health down in Florida. Sam had big plans to go into medicine, and she would never consider holding him back, so she made the difficult choice to let him go. She had no doubt he would have stood by and helped her, but that was a sacrifice she could not accept. She did eventually finish school. She opened her own jewelry shop in California and had done alright up until Sophia schemed her way into the business. Avery was naive and accepted the partnership offer without taking precautions. The end result was a mountain of debt when Sophia walked away with all the cash.

Crushed and humiliated for her own stupidity, Avery is starting over. She decided to move back to Chicago - the city that still feels like home to her - for a fresh start. She gets some part-time work as a graphic designer while she also works on building an Etsy store to sell her jewelry. She has been staying with her old bestie for a few weeks now, but it is really time to get her own place now. Since her finances are hurting, she hopes to find a roommate. When she learns that her ex-boyfriend is interested in being roommates, she naturally has some reservations. She has a lot of work to do to get her life back in order, and living with Sam could prove to be just too tempting. She is in no position to get involved with anyone now, but with their history together, it might become hard to resist his charms. She had never wanted to leave Sam all those years ago, so if the roommate situation is going to work, she will need to make some rules. The couple eventually finds their happy ending.

Watch for Cousin Kimberly’s story in book six!

Sam and Avery’s second-chance romance is a sweet read. They get a second chance when fate brings them together as roommates years after sharing the stage as prom king and queen. Her sudden departure after they had dated for two years left them going in different directions. They both left Chicago, but sixteen years later, they are both returning for a new start. Sam is mending a broken heart and Avery is trying to rebuild her career after a failed business. The story is light, nothing too angsty or emotional. For those following the Maxwell family, it is a good addition to the series. The plot is very simple. It is sweet and straightforward. It sometimes feels inauthentic and too simplistic. On the other hand, it keeps things very light. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Sam and Avery. I rate this book four stars.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the next Maxwell brother. This is Sam who is the doctor and has been away forever with Doctors without boarders. Sam came home for another doctor whom he met while away but it turned out was not as into their relationship as he was as she was cheating on him. Enter Avery. Avery and Sam were high school sweethearts but Avery broke Sam’s heart when she left without a word. Avery’s mom was sick and she didn’t want to burden Sam and she knew he wanted to be a doctor and didn’t want to hold him back so she left and didn’t look back. They never really got over each other. Fast forward now Avery is back needs a place to stay and they both think they can be roommates it the sexual tension and feelings are still there. The brothers think it is a riot that Sam thinks he can do this. They do try they really do but feelings win out and they finally admit they never went away. But in true fashion life gets in the way. Will they be able to figure out what they both want and make it happen? This is a stand alone but I strongly suggest you read all the books prior as the family all have recurring visits and it is important to know the characters.

This is the 6th book of the Maxwell brothers in which we follow the story of Sam and Avery who used to date while in high school and separated when Avery had to move to take care of her sick mother. Fast forward to present and they are both back in Chicago and unexpectedly reuniting as roommates.
This story is a beautiful depiction of second chances. Sam is a Maxwell and as much as he tries not to show it when he needs to, he is not afraid of doing so whether it to help the woman he still loves or to pursue his dreams. He is very patient with Avery, even though he still has feelings for her he takes this new opportunity life has offered in slow steps, as a friendship at first but always making sure she knows he is there for her. On the other hand, Avery is a talented woman who has been through many obstacles yet continues to fight for her dreams yet is afraid of opening up afraid she will get hurt if Sam leaves.
This book also gives you an insight into the other Maxwell brothers and most adorable the relationship between Sam and Paisley. with this being the last Maxwell brother, I can’t wait for Kimberly and Reese’s stories.

Layla Hagen has done it again! I absolutely LOVED Give Me Forever, the sixth book in her The Maxwell Brothers series! I loved every moment on every page of Give Me Forever and it was impossible to put it down. Each book in the series keeps getting better, Give Me Forever is my favorite book in the series. Layla Hagen definitely does not disappoint her readers with Give Me Forever and has once again delivered an incredible love story filled with everything that I love in sizzling romance stories. I love that Layla Hagen continues to write the stories that I love to read. Who does not love hot sexy men, who make you swoon, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another, and wonderful characters? I love the Maxwells brothers and the Maxwell cousins. I love how Layla Hagen always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. One of my favorite parts of her books is how she incorporates the picture on the cover of the book into the love story. I am not sure how she does it, but Layla Hagen has once again given her readers another incredible book with incredible characters. She has once again proven that she is an amazing storyteller. I really enjoy how she writes her stories in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love knowing what the main characters are thinking and feeling. My favorite moments in Give Me Forever are the lighter moments where I found myself smiling and laughing out loud. I also love the parts that pull at my heartstrings and cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Give Me Forever is filled with such moments, and with so much more. Give Me Forever is filled with all those things that I have come to love and expect in a Layla Hagen love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Give Me Forever is the second chance love story between Sam Maxwell, renowned doctor who was working for Doctors Without Borders and Avery Sinclair, jewelry designer. Avery and Sam were high school sweethearts and following their senior prom Avery promptly ended their relationship and moved away with her mother. Sam and Avery reconnect when they both return to Chicago, they have not seen one another since high school. Sam decides to walk away from Doctors Without Borders to settle in Chicago and have a relationship with his girlfriend, Olivia, only to discover that she was in a relationship with someone else. Sam is staying at Travis’s new hotel. Sam is hoping that the hospital he is working for will open a clinic. Avery returns to Chicago when her former business partner, Sophia Pitt withdrew all the money from their business account, and left Avery with nothing but the bills. Avery is staying at the apartment of her friend, Alana, sleeping on her couch. Sam and Avery both respond to the same ad for a loft for rent, they decide to become roommates. The Maxwells all think that this will lead to something between Sam and Avery, but Sam assures them that with the hours he keeps, they will rarely see one another. As Sam and Avery spend time together as roommates, things quickly heat up between them. I love the chemistry between Avery and Sam and their love story. I love the secrets that each one shares with one another, especially the reason that Avery broke up with Sam all those years ago and the reason he never tried to reach out to her. I love how the plot twist makes Avery uncertain about their future together, and I love everything that Sam does to get it resolved. I love everything that Sam does with Declan’s assistance to help Avery recover her money from Sophia. Layla Hagen creates such wonderful and memorable characters and has once again done this in Give Me Forever. I love Avery and Sam’s story and the descriptions of the Chicago settings. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Give Me Forever, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed catching up with the other characters in the series. It felt like a family reunion. I enjoy all the interactions among the Maxwell brothers and cousins, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. Give Me Forever was a wonderful love story. My favorite part of the story is Sam’s proposal to Avery, the location of the proposal and the significance of the engagement ring. I love that Sam took his brothers’ advice from their grandmother, Beatrice, who taught them the art of the grand gesture. I love the hint in the epilogue as to who falls in love next. I highly recommend this sizzling romance. Sam is the last Maxwell brother to fall in love. Cannot wait to see which Maxwell cousin is next.

I loved this book so much, how they got there second chance at love.

Sam is my everything he is hot asf, such a sweet heart, and how he treats his woman. Like when she was at the cafe and he kept send her meals while she worked. That right had me swooning for him. He such a family guy and I love that about all the brother; and how they all have different personalities. Sam is a doctor and just in general the most romantic, thoughtful, family oriented man i live for. Did I mention he’s hot asfffff to 😍😍😍 🧎🏽‍♀️🧎🏽‍♀️like he is the standard.

Avery is such a sweet girl I love how she is so involved in her family and her business(even though that evil Sophia stole her money). She is always tripping over her words when Sam starts to dirty talk her and we can not blame her because he is one hell of a man. But she also got a mouth on her too 😏😏♥️. She loves the maxwells and really wanted to be part of the family and got her wish.

Loved it. Can’t wait for Kimberly’s book up next ☺️☺️☺️

Give Me Forever by Layla Hagen

This author sure knows how to give us amazing sweet and swoony stories. This is Avery and Sam’s story and it is a second chance romance you won’t want to miss. Sam and Avery were high school sweethearts but Sam’s heart was broken when she just up and disappeared with out a word or explanation or goodbye. She had her reasons which were very noble reasons but they really messed with Sam’s heart the not knowing why she left him. Years later and Sam is back from Doctors Without Borders and Avery needs a place to live so they think they are grown enough to be adults enough to live together. There is way to much lingering feelings and too much chemistry. I loved this story and I highly recommend you read to find out exactly what happens between these two.

The last brother in the Maxwell clan

I loved Sam in all the other books every time he came home from his job with Doctors Without Borders the clan got together and had fun.
Sam is home for good as he followed his current relationship back but she was cheating on him.
He was looking to move from Travis’s hotel and saw a lift for rent and realised his ex from high school Avery needed a roommate for that loft.
They thought after not seeing each other for 16 years it would be ok but their old feelings soon resurfaced.
I have to say Sam & Avery were a lovely couple but there wasn’t the anx between them like there has been with the other brothers books.
Let’s see what Kimberly’s book brings.

Sam Maxwell is the youngest of the family. He has been away for years with Doctor’s without borders. He decided to come home to Chicago, The family dynamic has truly changed. All his brothers are engaged or married. He was in Hondorus. His family was very happy is is home. He was looking for a place close to the hospital he works. One of his former classmates wanted to rent out their loft. It was perfect. His former girlfriend Avery also wanted to rent the loft but she needed a roommate. Avery broke up with Sam in high school. Her mother got sick and they had to move. Avery is back in Chicago. She is staying with Alana. Sam’s brothers was placing bets about them two getting together. Sam is like the outsider but his family is happy to have him home. I love their story. Hot hot hot

The Maxwell family books are always good. I’ve enjoyed them all.
Sam was an enigma for a while. He was away a lot with Doctors Without Borders. Now he’s home.
His high school sweetheart is also back in Chicago. Her business partner swindled her. She’s lost her life’s work and all of her money. Low point for her and her confidence.
They become roommates. Platonic, then full bore into rekindling their teenage romance.
I thought the book lagged and sagged in the middle.
Avery, for all that she is beautiful and smart, is kind of dumb. It takes her way way too long to acknowledge Sam is all in with her. And to get on the same program.

Roommate to lovers
Book 6 of the Maxwell brothers
I love all of Layla Hagen books. I have binge read all of them. She is the type of author for me that no matter what she writes that im going to be buying her books to support!
Layla sure know how to make me fall for this men. Sam's and Avery story is one to be told. Old high school sweethearts turns to Roommate to lovers after 16 years has past and their chemistry never faded out. Sam is a doctor and had been with Doctors Without Borders and Sam just moved back to city after her business partner screwed her over. Sam wanted to move out of the hotel and Avery was looking for a roommate so the rent was affordable.

This was…

Good but I think the other books where way better and tbh this kept my attention but not like the others this was easy to put down but I got say the plot to where they where dating in high-school then broke up and then they came back together when they both just magically decided to move to Chicago that is like a definite sign of faith and with him on social and she didn’t keep in touch or an eye out for him and what he posted was weird since she did say show loved him. Like was she trying to get over him to now they regrew again.

A Maxwell spin to The Gift of the Magi

Enjoyed the story of Dr. Sam and his new roommate and former girlfriend Avery. Filled with the usual lighthearted family involvement in everyone's business, it was an entertaining story leading to a happy ending the second time around. All it took was for Avery to finally learn that she did not have to sacrifice her happiness with Sam to do the most loving thing for his happiness and ambitions.

Just another lesson in the rewards of taking the risks of open communication.

Second Chance Love

Sam and Avery meet again after many years. She having a major setback in her career and he just moved home after practicing abroad. They agree to share a condo but end up sharing so much more. They discuss the past and decide that they want a future together. Avery has concerns because she doesn’t want Sam to have regrets about her. Sam assures her that with her is where he wants and need to be. I thoroughly loved this second chance love story and I loved getting updates on the rest of the family.

Slow Moving Storyline

I was really looking forward to Sam’s story as I enjoyed all of his brothers stories. This book is just plain boring. There really isn’t much of a plot and the story telling just drags along. Two former high school sweethearts reunite and move into a loft together and from there, their story is like watching paint dry. I read the book because I purchased it but this is my final purchase of a book about this family.

Welcome Home

It was great having more of Sam and seeing his personality in comparison with everyone else. He is just like them with his quiet demeanor. The sparks showcased with Avery were exciting. The chase and closure were the most fun. However, his support in her getting justice is what truly put this book over the top for me.

This is another book in the Maxwell family series. It is the story of Dr. Sam Maxwell and his high school sweetheart, Avery Sinclair. Circumstances separated them years ago with Sam joining Doctors Without Borders and Avery designing jewelry. Many years later they are going to be roommates. Oh dear. What could possibly happen?

When love is real, will it last?

Sam and Avery were sweethearts in high school, but she ended it and left without a reason. After many years they find themselves back in the same city. Can they rekindle what they had or will they need to move on.
This is another great story of the Maxwell Family.

This was a really good quick read. The spicy was maybe 3🌶 and I'm giving 4⭐️, because it isn't a book I must have, but one I enjoyed and am likely to read again over and over to take a break from more intense books. Great characters, chemistry, and a lot of fun. I read it straight through and was bummed didn't have more to read.

Pasted loves.

This was a sweet reunion of sorts, they had dated as teens and then her Mother was ill and because she knew he wanted to be a Doctor she thought it better if they broke up, her Mother needed her and she did not want to hold him back. Now fifteen years later they are brought back together under unusual circumstances and the attraction is still there.

Great series so far

This was Sam's story. He's the prodigal son. He's been employed by Doctors without Borders, and he has been in third world countries for a few years. He misses his family and home and is ready for a new relationship when he finds out he'll be rooming with his high school sweetheart.

Layla Hagen

This book has an interesting premise, a doctor from Doctors Without Borders, back home, thrown in with his high school love. I liked it, but it did sort of ramble on. Still, no one is better than Layla Hagan at setting the scene!

This second chance love story with Sam's high school sweetheart, Avery, was a great read. And it was great to catch up with what the rest of the Maxwell clan was up to. I love this author's series with families because we get to catch up with everyone we have fallen in love with in their own books.

The book is sweet! Sam and Avery, once high-school sweetheart, now roommates. We all know how the story goes. While it wasn’t unique or over exciting, it was a feel good story. A sweet second chance.
