My best friend’s little sister is the one woman I can never have yet the only one I’ve ever wanted.

For years, revenge has been my only obsession.

Until her.

I’m supposed to hate her. My father wants me to destroy her family just as hers destroyed mine. But the more Catherine James begs me to kiss her untouched lips, the more entangled our worlds become.

Although, she was meant to be revenge, she became my salvation. Falling for her is an inevitability.

Even if I accept that Catherine is the love of my life, will she love me when she learns the dirty truths?

Authors Note: I promised you answers to all of the James family secrets. In order to do that, we have to go back to the beginning. Back to thirteen years ago when Catherine James first met Jonathan Hanson. Dirty Truths is a brother's best friend billionaire romance. It is part of the Extra Dirty duet and not a standalone.

The way I need ✨Jay Hanson✨ immediately should be criminal. Ate Cat and Jay’s story up so fast and it did not disappoint in the slightest.

I was so happy to finally get their backstory after all the alluding about them from books 1 and 2 in the series and man, oh man, was their chemistry, sexual tension, banter, push-and-pull dynamic, playfulness, romance, relationship, and too hot to handle STEAM on another level. 😮‍💨

The way Jay is so pathetically down bad for Cat and instantly taken by her when he sees her in the coffee shop he owns…SWOON. 🫠🦋 When they finally get together and he misses her even when they have just seen each other not too long ago, I cry bc pls, I love how needy he is for her. 😫

Cat and Jay belong to two rival billionaire families—competitors in the whiskey market—and a terrible betrayal takes place between the two families years prior when Jay was a child that leads to Jay’s dad wanting to exact revenge on Cat’s family—the James—and of course, he brings Jay into his mess, but now that Jay has fallen in love with Cat he will do whatever he needs to do to protect her from this fallout and try to escape his dad’s shackles.

The writing was great, the plot development, and pacing were just right. The author keeps you engaged the entire time and I didn’t feel anything dragged or felt unnecessary which is always a win in my book.

I loved getting to know Cat and Jay on a deeper level and I actually have come to love Cat so much more than from the first two books: she is such a spitfire character, who works so hard, is trying to make it all on her own, and creating her own lane without the name of her family behind her to open the doors for her, she finds the doors and opens them herself.

Jay is exactly the man she needed in her life. The way he loves her, reassures her of how amazing and beautiful she is not because of how she looks, but because of who she is on the inside and the type of heart she has, and the fact that she is the first person to ever tell him “I love you”, like are you kidding me?!! He was so obsessed with her and just the perfect book boyfriend. The dirty mouth this man has…LORDDDDD 🧎🏻‍♀️All their spicy scenes were so freaking good…I mean the library, the hot tub?!?! on the private jet?!??! 🥵🥵

The last 20% of the book broke my heart and I did not see that ending coming at all. 😧 Need to jump into the next book asap because I have to know how the hell Cat and Jay are going to reunite and get their HEA. I am so devastated right now that it ends with them not being together (we know that from the first two books in the series) still hurts though!!😭

THIS BOOK!!!

Holy hell I am obsessed. Literally think about it almost everyday.
Cash James from Whiskey Lies and Loving Whiskey is forever my first book boyfriend but hot dang Jonathan Hanson 🥵

This starts off pretty dang good so I was hooked from the first line. As hot as the line is, it is important as its where the rivalry between the Hanson and the James family stemmed from.

My absolute favorite thing was how Brittanee incorporated all this music into the story. There are times when songs just speak to the moment and both Jay and Cat James reference songs or “speak in songs”. I love this because it hits home, so many times my husband and I speak in song lyrics and its the best!
So where to begin, Cat and Jay are the daughter and son of whiskey brand family rivals. She wants to pave her own way in life so she doesn’t go by her family name when she meets Jay. Jay is Carter, Cats brothers, friend but they just have never met which is why for a while he doesn’t know who Cat is. They meet in a coffee shop and he finds out she commutes via train and so he meets her on the train during her morning commute to the city, hijacks her iPod deletes everything and leaves just the 1 song he wants her to listen to which is absolutely hilarious at times! This is how the music in the story starts.
Cat has half a v-card (I’ll leave it at that) and Jay has trauma/drama related to his father.
There is a lot of story here (in this book) but if you haven’t read Whiskey Lies and Loving Whiskey I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read them since this is taking place before those two books. Cat is in both of those books as well.
The love story itself is sooooo good! Needless to say Jay takes so many of her “first” and they have such a passionate and swoony relationship. It is an all consuming all or nothing love and I am obsessed with Jay over it. The spice is 100% hot! The twist in this story will leave you speechless and heartbroken and wanting answers and hating yet loving Cat and Jay.
READ IT!

✨ Warning: it does end on a cliffhanger

EDITED 12/10/23 —-> AUDIOBOOK RELEASE

I stand by the beautiful and amazing story this is!!! I felt like I was listening to a movie!
Joe Arden and Stella Bloom nailed. They knocked it out of the ball park bringing Cat and Jay to life.
This was as beautiful, seductive and heartbreaking as it was the first time around!

My favorite love story! Hands down!

4.5 stars. As much as I love Cash and Grace I devoured Jay and Cat’s story. And now it’s making me rethink everything I read in Whiskey Lies and Loving Whiskey. The ending and bonus epilogue had me screaming! I need the next book NOW!

What can I say? I don't think there are enough words because when it comes to your books, Brittanee, they just get better and better with everything I read from you. I absolutely adored these two and by far it’s your best book yet.

I never wanted to like Jay Hanson, since the first time I met him in Whiskey, and I believe I told you that. And yet you went and made me fall for him. I can't wait to see the world fall for him on April first.

The hints of Romeo and Juliet feel to this book will have you feeling so much for these two forbidden lovers. How refreshing to go back in time and see how we got to where we did with Cat and Jay from the Whiskey duet. And the nostalgia from the playlist just had me in all the feels.

PLEASSEEEEEEE this book is too good. Get your hands on it. This is the backstory we needed for cat & jay, and the Hanson/ James family feud. This book is romantic, spicy, thrilling & THE ENDING WILL HAVE YOU SCREAMING INTO YOUR BOOK. Major cliff hanger ending. I’m still simmering on this story, need the next one asap. If you haven’t read whiskey lies or loving whiskey DO IT, this one is also a must read!

Only you.

Billionaire and whisky heir, Johnathon Hanson falls for his best friend’s sister.

What the actual fuck was that motherfucking ending!!! I thought this book was good, and I went in completely blind but I am so shocked about that ending I don’t even know what to think or say. I thought our mmc was an angel and I loved him. Our fmc was very intriguing, but I don’t think I like her.

DNF at 82 percent. I thought the book would be a standalone where we would see the couples. I don’t think it’s worth having 2 books. Author could have just made the current story line as the book and add angst toward the end like most do. To me, it doesn’t need 2 books.

forgive me as i’m still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor after reading this one.

Dirty Truths follows Cat (Catherine) aka Kitten 😉 and Jay (Jonathon) who come from rival families who own whiskey companies.

Let me just start off by saying it is strongly recommended to read at least the first 2 books in this series (Whiskey Lies and Loving Whiskey). i felt like i had a better understanding of where the characters came from and their past history. I love that this book does help you understand Jay better as well because in the first two books he was just known as the “asshole villain… even tho a lot of us love a good villain. Learning about his intentions behind it all made me fall for him sooooooo hard.

Jay has probably the foulest mouth out of all of Brittanée’s men and i love him so much for it. the airplane scene will love rent free in my head FOREVER!!!!

BUT THAT CLIFFY?!?! Come on….. when does the next one come out?! i can’t take it. 😭😭😭

Whiskey lies and Loving whiskey were the first books I read when I decided to pick up reading and it started me down a rabbit hole I didn’t know I was missing out on!

There were elements of this book that I did enjoy for sure. But I do go into every read blind and don’t read any reviews until after and omg

I HATE HATE HATE CLIFF HANGERS OF THIS MAGNITUDE!!!!

I will avoid books if I have seen anywhere that there is a cliff hanger until the next one in the series it out cause I cannot handle it.

I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic! Joe Arden and Stella Bloom did a fantastic job narrating this story! I love how it was narrated in duet style! That might be my new favorite style for audiobooks! This was my first book by Brittanee Nicole and she did not disappoint! I did not know this was a part of a series so I messaged the author and was advised to start with whiskey lies so I did and I am glad for that! Everything made a lot more sense!
Dirty Truths follows Cat and Jay who come from rival families who own whiskey companies. This gave me strong Romeo and Juliet vibes and I loved every minute of it! Jay and Cat’s story is filled with lies, secrets, and forbidden relationships, plus the ultimate case of revenge. I loved the tension and playfulness with these two! The spicy scenes were steamy and both narrators did a fantastic job with those! You could feel every emotion between the two. I was swooning so hard! Jay was so sweet and so head over heels for cat! I l love a good slow burn and this was that! That cliffhanger had me sitting there with my mouth open! I dived right into the second book! I highly recommend this audio!

Thank you to the author agency for the ALC!

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

Cat has landed the internship of her dreams through hardwork and not relying on her family name or money. When Cat goes to a coffee shop for a job, she ends up meeting Jay, a hot mysterious man, that's immediately intrigued by her. At her internship, she finds out he's Jay Hanson, a wealthy billionaire, and her brother's best friend. Except he doesn't know that she's his best friend's sister because she changed her last name. She eventually reveals her identity and things heat up between them. They fall irrevocably in love with one another, but secrets Jay is hiding threaten to tear them apart for good.

Let me just start by saying this ends on such a rude cliffhanger. I should've known because Brittanée tortured us with cliffhangers before in the Falling for Whiskey duet. It totally ends up being worth it, but man do I feel like I've been put through the emotional ringer 🥲

I loved this story so much. I wasn't expecting to love Jay as much as I do. The fact that Brittanée made me fall in love with a blond man is truly shocking. I love Cash, but Jay might top him for me. He's so obsessed with Cat, has a dirty mouth, and would truly light the world on fire if it made Cat happy. He broke my heart at the end because I knew he was doing everything to protect Cat, but in doing so he had to break his own heart, too. I'm excited for Extra Dirty and can't wait for Cat and Jay to get their happy ending.

I do have two critiques for this book and series. One of them is a spoiler for the ending so I'll talk about it last and put a warning.

The first critique I have is that Cat is not a virgin, yet that's one of the tropes being use to market the book. In the beginning, we find out that Cat had a romantic and physical relationship with her best friend, who is a woman. We also find out that she has never slept with a man, so she has not received penetration by a cisgender man. While that would make her new to that experience, that doesn't mean she's a virgin.

While I enjoy the virgin main character trope in books (I like when the virgin asks to be taught by the love interest), virginity is a social construct. It's not real. You can't hold it or see it. It is a made up idea that is sexist, places harmful standards about purity on women, is focused on heterosexual standards, and upholds the patriarchy.

In Cat's case, the idea that she's a virgin because she's only slept with a woman, and hasn't been with a cisgender man, is inaccurate. If that were the case, then anyone that's never slept with a cisgender man would be a virgin. That means lesbians are virgins even if they've been in sexual relationships because they haven't slept with a cisgender man. That means anyone with a trans man would be a virgin as well, which isn't the case. Virginity should not be tied to whether or not someone has been in a heterosexual relationship, but that seems to be the focus with Cat's identity in this book.

I think it's important that authors are mindful of how they present certain tropes and being mindful of how queer identities are being represented. Cat's sexual identity is never fully stated, but she is at least part of the queer community from what she has shared about her romantic and sexual experiences. I think more care was needed with how this was treated in the book and the message that comes across about how virginity ties in to relationships.

🚨The rest of the review contains spoilers🚨

The second critique I have is the secret baby revealed. I don't mind this trope at all. My concern is there was also a secret baby with Cash and Grace, which is the duet before Jay and Cat's in the Boston Billionaires series. My concern is that Brittanée is relying on this trope a bit too much. I say that because I imagine Carter, Cash's brother, is going to get his own story. We know from Cash and Grace's story, that he has a secret child, and we find out the origin story in Dirty Truths. I just don't want to see her default to this trope for every single book in this series. I'm begging that the other James kids don't have more secret/surprise babies outside of the ones we know about.

✨What to expect✨
•Rival businesses
•Music
•Spicy
•Billionaire romance
•Brothers friend
•Revenge/enemy families

✨Thoughts ✨
Well, that ending shook me to my core and I am officially unwell now😭. Right after I finished, I just whispered obscenities to myself as I was on the verge of tears. I had to immediately message Brittanee to make sure there will be a follow up book. Which I am sure is going to emotionally wreck me when I read. I am already unwell thinking about what is going to happen, I am going to need to prepare myself with a box of tissues.

Let me start off by saying, I loved how music played a big part in this book and in Jay & Cat’s relationship. I really loved both Jay & Cat, and that ending just broke me. I loved Cat and how she was fierce AF, I am willing to let the hate on PB slide lol. Jay was determined to make Cat his, and how he went out about it…excuse me while I swoon over him and the Kitten nickname. I loved Cat and Sophie’s relationship too, I was so happy Cat found a true friend unlike MIA...don’t get me started on her (THE WORST).

This book got hella spicy around the halfway mark and it was hottt
♦The scene at Rebel
♦The pool & hot tub scenes
♦THE PLANE SCENE!

You guys def should read this one, I will warn you though. That ending may break your heart and you are going to immediately need the follow up right away lol.

This answered all the questions I had from Loving Whisky, which I’m very thankful for
I expected them to have a backstory the way they acted in the previous book, and though they weren’t my favourite there, they now are my favourite couple in this series!
I think going back in time to set up their story for the „present“ timeline was perfect, and will give the next book a much better understanding of their relationship instead of just doing flashback or something similar

The spice is spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
FMC is bi (I would assume)
Voyeurism

“I’m in love with you. Irrevocably. Completely. Head over fucking heels in love with you. I want to shout it to anyone who will listen. But I also want to hide us away from the world because I’m afraid, Cat. I’m so goddamn scared that the minute our families find out, I’ll lose you. And I just…” He stops and sweeps a thumb across my cheek. “I can’t lose you. That’s the truth. I’m in love with you, and I’m scared.”

As usual infuriated with the cliffhangers!!!

“Irrevocably. Completely. Head over fucking heels,”

The background story I never knew I needed! I fell in love with falling for whiskey duet and was super excited about this book when I found out about it. Cash and Grace are forever my favorite couple but after reading this one, cat and Jay will be high up there with them! This story follows Cat and Jay ~13 years ago, their attempt at being together despite the family rivalry (also giving us a tidbit of what started that which was WOW). Cat's character was a surprise for me but I can't say I hated it. The business rivalry was getting annoying but only bc I just wanted more about their story the whole time. I kept going back to whiskey lies for references bc Brittanee does a great job tying everything together!! The ending made me sad ngl but the cliffhanger tho 🥴

Thank you so much for this ARC and I cannot wait for the next book bc like I said this cliffhanger ain't it 😭😭

I received this book as an ARC (thank you so much Brittanee), and fell in love with Jay Hanson. This book definitely makes you feel all the emotions. I finished it at around midnight and couldn’t fall asleep until almost 3 am because my mind was whirling around and that cliffhanger she so graciously gave us 🤣🤣. You’ll get a better understanding of Cat and Jays relationship and what happened between their family’s. The spice in this book is fire! Pretty sure I said “oh shït” like 20 times. Jay has a filthy mouth. He also praises the hêll out of Cat. It is by far her spiciest book she’s written. I finished it in one day. I did not want to put it down. I loved everything about it and can’t wait until Extra Dirty comes out.

Cat and Jay’s families are enemies. They also were instantly attracted to each other.

Cat is a virgin FMC who has only been with one person, her best friend. Jay wants to take down Cat’s father. He’s also the competitor of Cat’s family. Meeting Cat was not suppose to happen and now he has to second think everything.

I really did like how much Jay really put Cat on high pedestal and treats her with so much love. He also helps her see how intimacy is and what adult relationships feel like. Also what true love is and feels like.

Mia, Cat’s best friend, is complete trash. I hated her the whole book. She’s a horrible character.

2.5✨?

I can’t decide how I feel about this book. We don’t really get an introspection on the characters but the author always alludes to things and then never gives us an in-depth backstory? Like you can’t bring up food and body image issues and sexuality matters just for plot but never fully expanding on how they truly effect the character.Oh and then the ending??? Like what?? That was a terrible, out of left field, rushed ending just to end it on a cliffhanger. And then bringing Mia back in the end to completely shift her storyline and make her out to be this evil money hungry girl like what??

I am RUINED!! This book was absolutely fantastic. Filled with twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Cat & Jay are a modern day Romeo & Juliet, and the strength of their forbidden love would love mountains. The way he pursues her, and the respect and admiration he has for her will melt your heart… while the steam & spice melt everything else!!

This was the perfect balance of angst, love, laughs, and suspense. Be forewarned though, it is part one of a duet, and thus, ends on a cliffhanger. As someone who is normally enraged by cliffhangers lol, this is worth it. I will be diving immediately into part two, Extra Dirty.

The audio performances by Joe Arden & Stella Bloom were spectacular!! They drew me in completely and left me totally shattered! I cannot wait for them to put my heart back together in Extra Dirty.

I hate cliffhangers, I loathe them and thank God I read this book today as it seems I have to wait only 3 weeks for the resolution.

The book would have been 3 or even 4 stars for my liking, but the last chapter really broke me.

I don't understand characters that sacrifice their happiness in order to save their loved ones and by sacrificing, I mean completely obliterate them. It feels cheap and like they can't find a common solution together, more like a martyr/saviour syndrome. If this was one book, then really it might have been easier for me to deal with the betrayal that Cat must have felt. Devastation.
Right now Jay seems quite the coward and I don't know how he will redeem himself.

Having read also the other 2 books, I have more questions. Where is the surprise baby? Did Jay really fuck around these 12 years+? Or was it just a show? Did he really have an affair/ baby with someone else ? And if Cat's grandfather knew the whole truth then why was he so against the arranged marriage in the previous books?

I really enjoyed this couple much more than Grace/Cash as I felt their chemistry was much much better but the cliffhanger and the combined storylines really minimized the reading experience for me :-(

Let's see what happens in 3 weeks....

Have you ever avoided reviewing a book because you LOVED it so much you can't put it into words, nothing you say will be enough.... That's been me with this duet. (Hint I've also never reviewed Ravenhood series because of the same reason.) Since listening I've already relistened to most of book 2, and relistened to a certain scene (cold play - yellow iykyk) multiple times.

First I want to say I listened to this duet before the whiskey duet which is backwards. But honestly I'm so glad I did. I freaking LOVED Cat and I don't know if I would have as much if I listened the correct way.

Cat and Jays story is long, but so damn worth it. It's filled with angst, drama and so much passion. I went into this completely blind, not reading the synopsis, just seeing a few tropes and I am so glad I did.

JAY FREAKING HANSON. THIS MAN. Absolutely taking claim to him as my #1 book boyfriend right now, actually no can he be my book husband?

His passion, his mouth, his patience and his devotion. Sign me up.

Alright I'll stop rambling, but if you promise to put this on your audio tbr.

AND you have to listen to the playlist while listening.
