Disney, who thinks its job is to outwoke other entertainment companies, just released its black Little Mermaid movie with mixed results. When it first announced that it had hired a black actress to play a very popular character who’s a red-haired white mermaid, they were mocked for trying to BLMify what is considered a classic animated family movie. They thought that they could dramatically depart from the original and still make a killing at the box office, without getting too much pushback. (And as with Islamic supremacists and their push to Islamize everything in sight, it’s always a one way street, as it is with leftist supremacists and their one way race-swapping.) Well, the box office receipts are in for the first weekend, and the film made less than had been projected, particularly overseas, where it appears that people appreciate Disney’s race swap even less than they do in America. And the leftist reaction to those who are giving it terrible online ratings overseas is as preposterous as the typical leftist reaction to anything. From a Deadline article:
Korea’s SBS News reported heading into the weekend that the film had been subject to “ratings terrorism” in an article whose title Korean entertainment website Zapzee translated to “Backlash Against ‘Black Mermaid’: Appearance Ridiculed, Ratings Drop on Day One.”
This is a case of the left’s condescending racism towards blacks. Leftists can’t simply accept that Disney released its latest mediocre movie, which audiences correctly identified as mediocre, and they feel the need to condemn people for not liking a movie that was used to push an agenda, instead of entertaining audiences by giving them a live-action version of the animated movie in which Ariel looks like Ariel, and in which there is no rap music (The schmuck who brought us the Broadway musical Hamilton, Lin Manuel-Miranda, who thought it was a great idea to make the Founding Fathers black, also thought it was a great idea to add a rap song to The Little Mermaid), and in which the heroes aren’t diminished based on gender: in the live action version, Prince Erik’s climactic heroic act is now given to Ariel. And so on.
And from what I gather, the actress playing Ariel is serviceable in the role, and she can sing, so she’s just an actress who took the job, but it’s the heads at Disney who hired her for “diversity” reasons. And speaking of those heads at Disney, I noticed the lack of “diversity” at the top of Disney and the studios they own, and called out the white supremacists.
Another aspect here is that the new Little Mermaid movie is a continuation of Hollywood’s “gingercide,” in which an incredible number of redhead characters are race-swapped with black actors in live action and animation. Here’s a visual example of what I call redheadism.
And even though “top” movie critics, as categorized by the online aggregator of movie and TV reviews, Rotten Tomatoes, have the movie as officially “rotten,” at 47%, nearly all of them feel the need to overpraise the black actress. It’s now a reliable thing for dishonest movie critics to roast movies, but always to overpraise their black leads, whether they’re good or not, as they recently did with actor Jonathan Majors in Ant-Man 3.
And so today’s moral lesson from immoral leftists is that if you don’t like the new Little Mermaid live-action version of their animated movie, and if you post a bad review of it online, or if you simply like that bad review, then you’re a “Ratings Terrorist.”
somehistory says
People today have taken all meaning out of the words “racist” and “racism,” by calling everything from eating/serving certain foods, to not enough trees, birds and squirrels in a Black neighborhood.
Now, they are working on the word “terrorism.” Soon, it will be applied to everything, just as the word racist is applied to everything someone doesn’t like..
There will be “fast food terrorism” and it won’t be the person hitting, screaming and pulling loaded guns on servers; it will be the servers who say something like ,”I’m sorry we are all out of chicken nuggets.”
I’m surprised they haven’t made a new word, “Black o phobia.” Any negative thing said to a Black person, any look they don’t like, or any time they are asked to reduce the volume of a rap “song,” etc., will be the “phobia.”
Disclaimer: I have nothing against Black people. I’m related to at least two people who are bi-racial, and I have many Black friends.

In support of you contention, somehistory, and which I agree with, I provide this:

Yep, Florida is about to become another terrorist state. Clown world in America continues, courtesy this time, as with so many other times, of a Democrat.

Thank you, Wellington.
I say, as Florida is where I was born and raised…my ancestors before me….anyone not liking things being done in the Sunshine State, should just feel free to leave. They won’t be missed.

And that goes double for people like this fool…hypocrite. She and her family visited for Spring Break, but she says she “doesn’t want anything to do with the place.”
I say, stay away. she doesn’t deserve to have ‘fun, sun,’ or anything else served up by Floridians who appreciate the Freedom from so much of bidenism and socialism, and lesbianism, and the whole alphabet soup of corrupted, evil nonsense.

Yes, Wellington–I saw that, and it is just nuts.

Our alleged leaders know that a society with various factions such as race, religion, gender insanity, high crime, unsafe streets, etc all at each other’s throats, is a society that can easily be controlled in great detail.
We are heading to slavery folks.
Q: What do all slaves have in common?
A: They don’t own guns.

Probably the brigade of wankers at Disney can whine all they like but if the word of mouth is that this is a boring stinker of a movie then most sensible people won’t go to see it and sit there being bored just because the movie is oh, so moral because it has a black mermaid. Movies such as this one surely need to try to be entertaining and fun above all. If they fail at that, then people should, and hopefully will, stay away in droves.

Hi Tim,
Interestingly this was the message of that great Ozzie comedy Razzle Dazzle: A Journey into Dance.
The activist dance teacher can only hope to win a competition when he makes his dance troupe entertain rather than educate. 🙂 It’s terrific.
tim gallagher says
Thanks for that information, carpediadem. I might check it out some day. I have to say that I have never heard of the comedy. It does seem as if there are plenty of boring movies being made these days that mainly seek to push a certain message rather than entertain people. Hopefully, it won’t last and they will get back to just trying to entertain the audience and give them some escapist fun. It is probably similar to way they have been changing the content of classic books where they figure that the content offends someone’s delicate sensibilities.
Transmaster says
The best review of this stinker is from the Critical Drinker on YouTube. His given name is William “Will” Jordan a professional author and screenwriter. This movie is bad in so many ways. Disney did the same thing to Peter Pan. This movie was so bad Disney didn’t even bother to put it in theaters but just dumped in into Disney+ Critical Drinker review of it is also a howler,
TyAlder says
Agreed!

Transmaster, I had never heard of this reviewer, but he is very good–the only thing interesting about this movie seems to be his review of it:

I’ve watched both the original Little Mermaid movies, and liked both of them. Have no plans to watch this woke movie, where the mermaid is Black. The concept of mermaid is purely an European one, so it’s perfectly fair for it to be White
Why can’t Disney simply make versions of stories from Africa or the Caribbean, and populate them w/ Black characters?
carpediadem says
I’ve been wondering this for ages since there are so many amazing stories begging to be told about black characters.
The idea of these remakes is to erase ‘whiteness” though, which is just stupid. Takes resources away from making good solid movies with black POC etc.
somehistory says
I watched most, if not all, of the Sidney Poitier movies. They could do a movie actually about him and have some young Black actors portray him as he made it big.
There are so many in history who would made good movie subjects.
But as you say, they are just doing this to erase Whites.
It was quite obvious when they made a Black “Snow White.”

Beneath the Veil of Consciousness says
Speaking of redheads (gingers), there’s been a lot of play on this theme in woke commercials. Perhaps this is in reaction to the fact that a ginger prince married a black/white woman.
An Aquaphor commerial features a ginger young woman going out on a date with a young black male. The Nuts brand commercial features a ginger father and ginger son with a black mother and black daughter. A Gain detergent commercial features a ginger man making a bed with his black wife or girlfriend. A Tax Act commercial features a ginger wife, black husband, and mulatto daughter. Then there’s the commercials from a country known for their xenophobia and racism. A Nissan commercial features a white woman driving a car with a one second subliminal side profile shot of a black male passenger. A Toyota commercial features a white woman driving a car with a nanosecond subliminal shot of a black girl in the back seat. The commercial includes the phrase lines, “slippery slope” and “dangerous path.”
I could go on and on with more examples of these woke commercials, including those from Jeep, Aeropostale, YouTube TV, Angie’s List, Kayak, Kay Jewelers, Men’s Warehouse, Chevrolet, Amazon, Google, etc., etc., adnauseum. The bottom line is these companies primary objective is to probably avoid any allegations of racism if some unforeseen issue should occur in the future. A very cynical, manipulative, disingenuous, and cowardly ploy to curry favor with the woke mob.

To your points:
The percentage of nonwhites / LGBTQ etc., in commercials is FAR higher than would be expected with representative sampling.
FAR higher.

This is true, James. I went through an issue of Vogue from about a year ago, and almost half of the models were African American, as well as both cover stories.

Giving Low Ratings to Disney’s Black Little Mermaid Movie is ‘Ratings Terrorism’
……………………………………….
This is just nuts–now you can’t even say you don’t like a movie–for whatever reason–because doing so is “ratings terrorism”?
Some of the least popular animated Disney movies have included such offerings as Chicken Little, and ill-considered remake of Bambi from 2006, Return to Neverland, The Black Cauldron (not a racial reference), and A Goofy Movie.
Is ranking these movies low also “ratings terrorism”?

Now, just how many successful black swimmers are there in the world? So it seems in the interest of inclusion, diversity, and culture enrichment we should have a black female mermaid. Do these people live in this world? I’m still waiting for Vinnie Jones to play Nelson Mandela.
