Kissing your co-director is a sure way to fan the flames of gossip…

Eve Pendleton moved to Campfire for a fresh start. She's agreed to help the town council with their bachelor charity auction, but hosting it at the high school is a no-go unless she agrees to co-direct the winter play with the principal. Besides, her fresh start didn't include plans for a new man… Can she make room in her heart and her new life for a man whose icy exterior hides a flame only she can quench?

Brady Gleason can’t stop thinking about Eve. Loud, chronically late, and generally a thorn in his side, she gets on his nerves—but her prickliness conceals a pain he can’t help but try to soothe. He’s learned the hard way that risk means loss. Can Eve encourage him to open his heart one last time if it means finding love?

🔥SMOKE SHOW🔥 is my opposites attract, love letter to romantic banter. I LOVE Eve and Brady's story, and I hope you do too. It's got big Black Cat/German Shepherd energy with an HEA I adore.

My mantra while writing it was "never mess with a woman who knows Photoshop." 🤣Find out why in SMOKE SHOW. Happy reading!

This book can be read as a stand-alone book because the author does a good job referencing events that took place in the first book or character connections sufficiently to give a new reader a frame of reference or explanation to minimize confusion. However, I would still strongly encourage starting with Forbidden Flame to get the full context of some of the more nuanced comments.

Unfortunately, it took me much longer to get into the storyline with this book than it typically does because neither of the two main characters really appealed to me initially. This was like eating your vegetables so you can enjoy a tasty dessert. I was really intrigued by some of the potential character match ups that will be later books in this series, so I forced myself to read this book. While I wasn’t excited about this book, having finished it I can honestly say it was a pretty good read. It’s closer to a 3.5 rating, but the series as a whole is engaging and very entertaining.

My frustration with the book for about the first 35% is Brady comes across as a straight laced jerk. He’s all over admonishing Eve for being tardy to the high school play practices he strong armed her into helping with in book 1 so her friends could host a charity event in the high school gym. She is a self employed tattoo artist and is closing her business early several nights a week to VOLUNTEER and help him out without him ever expressing his appreciation. Mr. Principal needs to get over himself.

Another frustration is how the author kept hinting at major life changing events in each of Brady and Eve’s pasts that neither of them have worked through. Keeping the details secret and slowly sharing them as the characters mentally ruminate about those events is irksome and distracting. I’d rather be given a better idea of the event or situation to better understand why the character has emotional hangups or triggers that still impact them.

In this case, once you learn what happened in Brady’s past it’s really weird that not one person in the small town where everyone is in everyone’s business never mentioned what happened to him. Eve’s past event, while horribly painful and embarrassing, wasn’t her fault and she was the victim of a slimy individual.

The relationship between Brady and Eve grows slowly (they go on a few dates before things get spicy). Once they get past the snarky banter and become more flirtatious the reading experience drastically improves, but those first chapters of awkwardness and unintentional hurt feelings were a bit painful to get through.

I most enjoy the camaraderie between the group of ladies and the group of guys. I love the interplay and foreshadowing of future pairings and the continued mystery of who is sabotaging the council’s events. The sign battle between Gwen and Zander is awesome. I’m really looking forward to their book later in the series!!

Eve Pendleton escapes from her former life as an Art Teacher after being humiliated by circumstances beyond her control.
She sets herself up as a Tattoo Artist in the newly branded town of Campfire, and is co-opted onto the Town Council as Events Coordinator to assist with the Bachelor Charity Auction.

In order to be granted the use of the High School Gym, she has to agree to assist the School Principal with the Winter Play.
Brady Gleason, High School Principal, is too strait-laced for Eve’s taste, but as she has no plans to become involved with another man, dismisses the thought.

Brady finds Eve loud, perpetually late, and a general thorn in his side, always getting on his nerves.
Both have losses in their pasts, which they never talk about, but having to work together on the Play, they find themselves being drawn to each other, and becoming close.

The newly elected Town Council had to contend with sabotage at a previous event, and the perpetrator has yet to be found, so everyone involved is doing their best to avoid further problems, but best laid plans don’t always work out.

There is a threat to Brady’s position as Eve’s past raises its ugly head, as well as a further sabotage attack, which adds to the Council’s worries.

This is a sweet and steamy story, with characters from the first book in the series being involved, but it can be read as a stand-alone. It’s well plotted, with lots of interesting and relatable characters, and the mystery around the sabotage goes on, despite a suspect being identified.
I loved the storyline, and I’m really looking forward to book 3 in the series.

I didn't read the first book in the Campfire Council series, but this book stands on its own fairly well. There are some allusions to events and relationships from the previous book in the series, but nothing that is not sufficiently fleshed out or explained in this, the second book in the series.

The premise is that the main character leaves her previous life for ~reasons~ and reinvents herself in a small town, becoming a self-employed artist and tattooist. She is asked by the town council to work with the stuffy principal of the high school on a couple of special projects. From there, it's pretty much a classic opposites attract/enemies-to-lovers tale.

I thought it was an interesting plot, but the dialogue - especially between the Hero and heroine - was a little clunky. It didn't seem like it was natural/flowed organically in some places, especially in the more intimate scenes. And despite there being some interesting twists to a familiar plot, the story as a whole was fairly predictable.

There is no profanity beyond the very occasional "hell" or "damn," and the intimate scenes are about a medium on a scale of mild/implied to very hot/explicit.

This book was OK. Not bad, not great - just "meh." I rate each of the aspects of this book as follows:

Hero - 3/5 stars

heroine - 3/5 stars

Supporting characters - 3/5 stars

Plot - 3/5 stars

Pacing - 2/5 stars

World-building - 3/5 stars

Romance - 2/5 stars

Sex scenes - 3/5 stars

AVERAGE GRADE: 2.75, rounded up to 3

I would read other books in the Campfire series if I had them, but I would not want to pay full price to do so.

Another great book about the town of Campfire and the ladies who are trying to rebuild the reputation of their small town even while someone is determined to sabotage them at every turn! This story is about Eve Pendleton who has settled in Campfire while running from her past and Brady Gleason the principal of the local high school. Brady comes across as uptight and it was fun to see he was the complete opposite especially where Eve was concerned! Eve came across as a bad ass; dark make up,clothes and tattoos, but it was her way of turning her back on her past life. (May I just say, there is absolutely nothing wrong with tattoos, I myself have a few!)

Eve is determined to make a fresh start in Campfire after being run out of her previous job by her ex and hoping that he doesn't try to find her. The ladies of the Campfire Council are organizing a Winter Warmth Auction and need the space at the high school to have their event. The pincipal has agreed to it but wants someone to help him with putting on a play. Eve has been appointed to help and her job will be to make scenery for the play with the help from some high schoolers. Eve and Brady find themselves drawn to each other but they are being held back by events that happened to them in their past. Over time they get closer until they eventually end up together. There are lots of laughs in this story and I loved how they were determined not to fall for each other but jumped in with both feet when they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other!

This is a sweet and steamy, opposites attract story that pulled me in right from the start. I haven't read the first book of the series, but had no trouble reading this as a standalone. Eve really needed a fresh start after the humiliation she had faced back home. She comes to the small town of Campfire to reinvent herself and sets up her own tattoo business. The town council requests her help with the Bachelor Charity Auction and she would have to work with the stuffy, uptight principal of the local high school, Brady. The high school gym is the perfect place for the event, and in order to be able to use it, she had to agree to help Brady with the school's Winter Play. Brady was too uptight for Eve's tastes, and they had trouble seeing eye to eye and were constantly butting heads. But the more time they spend together, the more the attraction between them grows. Eve has a past she was escaping from, but Brady also had secrets of his own, and they are both skeptical of happy endings. Are they willing to put their misgivings aside and see where this leads?

The story was entertaining and enjoyable and I loved the flirty banter between Eve and Brady. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and following their story. This was a fun and quick read with just the right amount of spice. Glad to have had the opportunity to read this!

Eve is a newcomer to Campfire, yet she’s found herself a great friendship group and she’s helping the. With the Winter Warmth Auction. She has her own tattoo business, so she’s quite the artist which makes her position to help the school with its upcoming play easy.

It was Brady, the high school principal that got her to help. It was a deal he struck with her. She needed the school as the place to hold the auction.

They didn’t see eye to eye, but they relished in needling each other, teasing and flirting.

He had his secrets, and she has hers. Will those secrets come between them?

This is my first time reading from this author, and this book is the second in the Campfire Council series. It can be read as a stand-alone or as part of an ongoing series.

The flirty banter is great between Eve and Brady. There’s a touch of spice, and a few saucy scenes. This is one quick and easy read. There’s also a little mystery too, that doesn’t get resolved at the end of the book, but one can assume it will continue throughout the series.

Great characters, fun side characters, and a good storyline. An enjoyable read.

Eve comes off as the goth girl with her dark looks, but if you could see inside, you'd see she's hiding something. Which is why she moved and is a newcomer to Campfire, but she found a great group of friends and is helping them to revive Campfire by helping with the Winter Warmth Auction. To be able to host it at the high school, Eve had to agree to help principal Gleason (Brady) with the winter musical. Brady is a pain in Eve's side since they don't seem to see eye to eye on this and hate each other. Although, there is a thin line between love and hate and the more time they spend together working on the play, the more they realize they don't hate each other. The closer it gets to the auction, the Campfire council hopes they have everything ready for it to go without a hitch, but will it? And when Eve's past comes back to haunt her, will she be able to stay or will she be on the run again?

I loved this book. It pulled me into the life of Campfire so much that I figured I must have missed a book (which I had) that I immediately bought and devoured. Can't wait for this series to continue. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my review.

Oh, I really liked this book! Eve is not letting what happened define her. Yes, she still feels the sting and shame of the lies and betrayal, but she has reinvented herself and is happily thriving. A small town was just the cure she needed. Business owner, a new strong group of female friends and being active in the community has made her bloom. Love is not on her radar. But an uptight principal throws a wrench into everything. Force to work Mr. Uptight, they both are carrying a secret... They have the hots for each other! It was cute to see Brady wear her down, and for her to let down some of those walls. This small town gossip mill actually wanted to see the couple together and not cause drama. I enjoy books where adults are actually being adults. There was drama but not this unrealistic middle school drama. Eve and Brady were both able to share their past hurts without someone "spilling the beans''! This book made me laugh and the steamy scenes were hot and not over the top. I enjoyed this from start to end and can't wait to see what is next in this small town.

I loved the first book in this series and could not wait for more.I was not dissapointed and enjoyed Smoke show the second book in the series.

Eve and Brady were just amazing. Both have painful pasts they are trying to escape from.

Eve has been asked to organise the bachelor auction and she needs the high school for it.

Brady who is the principal agrees on one condition,Eve helps him with their winter play.

Eve has no choice and agrees. She thinks Brady is stuck up.The chemistry between them is hard to ignore and the more they work together the closer they get.

They have to work through their issues and break the walls each of them has put up before they can get to their happily ever after.

There is lots of banter,laughter,

friendships, romance and a sweet happily ever after.

Looking forward to Amelia's next book.

Eve settled in Campfire after a terrible experience. She needed a new life and had friends in this small town. She had a tattoo parlor and some graphic design work that paid the bills. She was helping with set decorations for the high school play. Brady is the high school principal, and he did not have a good opinion of her. As they work together, they become attracted to each other. Eve has a past but Brady has his secrets too. This book is a lot of fun. Great characters who support each other. It is interesting to watch Eve and Brady at play practice when they try to keep their feelings to themselves.

New girl to town tattoo artist vs small town principal are about as opposite as you can get. But where there's smoke there's fire and these two get steamy. Eve has found some great friends though she isn't telling anyone about her background secrets and Brady has his own secrets (this story is a little over the top with all the secrets but it works). I enjoyed the setting of working on the HS play together as Eve and Brady connect. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is book 2 in Simone's Campfire Council series and can be read as a standalone. This is an opposites attract romance read with our main characters being Eve and Brady. Tattoo artist meets high school principal. Well written, I appreciate Simone detailing previous events so we standalone readers don't feel lost, so the storyline flows well. Characters that come thru well and a great balance of sweet and steam.

I didn't read the first book in the Campfire Council series, but this book stands on its own fairly well from what I can tell. There are some allusions to events and relationships from the previous book in the series, but nothing that is not explained in this book enough to understand. This is the second book in the series. It has some back and forth banter that I like. I overall enjoyed the book I do wish I had read the first book in the series just cause that I how I am but it is not necessarily a must.

4 1/2 stars -This opposite romance read was an enjoyable story that was about Eve Pendleton who moved to Campfire to start over after a bad relationship who volunteered to help with the fund raisers for the Campfire Council and Brady Gleason the high school principal who finds himself attracted to the unconventional Eve a tattoo artist. The characters were likable and their tit for tat was engaging along with the steamy encounters. The storyline with the drama and romance was enjoyable and engaging to read. I volunteer to read and review this enjoyable copy I received via Goodreads.

The high school principal and the tattoo artist make an unlikely couple. Forced to work together to achieve mutual goals, they find that they are attracted to one another and decide to give it a chance.

This story is a tale of overcoming prejudice and internal shame to find one's strengths. A lovely joining of hearts with realistic internal challenges to overcome and find the love that can be found in each other.

Well written, beautiful characters.

This was a good read. Even though it was a second in the series, it worked well as a standalone. I didn’t read the first book and still enjoyed this one. I am disappointed that I will have to keep waiting to see who is sabotaging the town’s events but that seems to be one of the major things that tie these stories together, besides the town and characters.

Side note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review

A fun read. Lots of chuckles in between as well with the storyline being the romance and love story between a stuffy shirt and follow the rules with Principal Brady and a Tattoo Artist, who is a real Artist who is back as an Art Teacher and designer and maker of props for the local high school where she, too, attended. Of course, Eve, the artist is the exact opposite of Brady and hence the saying opposites attract, There was enough interest in the storyline to keep reading and turning the pages.

Smoke Show (Campfire Council Book 2) by Amelia Simon. Eve and Brady are opposite that definitely feel the attraction to one another. This is one of those stories that have it all- heart, heat, hahas, and HEA. I enjoyed this story and felt an emotional pull towards this couple and the struggles, easy banter, and undeniable chemistry they shared.

It was a great read. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely helped that I read book number one first but not totally necessary.

From the first book, I hoped that Eve and Brady would get together, but I had no idea it would play out like this.

Also it is great to have a little mystery with trying to figure out who/why the saboteur is trying to wreck everything the group is trying to do for the town.

Can’t wait for the next one!
