Forged in 2013, the full line-up of Laura Nardelli (bass), Samuele Scalise (drums) Nico Fabbri (vocals), Gregorio Di Angilla (guitar) and Juri Vatova (guitar) have a sound that could indeed devour worlds, even reality itself – and, after honing their weapons for a decade, that sound arrives at maximum power on their debut album Beyond the Fate of Death. Their very moniker translates as “ascetism” or “self-discipline” from ancient Greek, and that resolve can be felt in every single note they strike from the abyss as they draw inspiration from The Myth Of Sisyphys by Albert Camus to express their personal visions of our “Non-Existence”.

One of the more atmospheric tracks on the album (relatively speaking), ‘Creation of Non-Existence’ begins a languid, lethal prowl, purposeful, as if stalking prey – but it soon opens up into an ominous display of catalysmic, relentless, onward force. Pulverising percussion and roaring vocals that tear through the fabric of reality drive this multi-textured composition, slowly and inevitably building a maelstrom that effortlessly captivates; both immolating the spirit and inviting meditation in equal measure. The myth personified. As Camus says, one must imagine Sisyphus happy… but this track will make you question everything about your life and soul.

What’s more, this is but a mere taste of the sheer devastation the full album contains.
