Owen Jones is a virulently anti-Israel columnist for The Guardian who doesn’t let facts get in his way. He makes false charges, and if caught out, explains his malign “mistake” as based on a “mistranslation in a tweet.” More on this deplorable creature can be found here: “The Dangerous Lies of Guardian Columnist Owen Jones About Israel-Hamas War,” by Rachel O’Donoghue, HonestReporting, December 4, 2023:
The harrowing 47-minute film titled Bearing Witness features footage of the October 7 massacre that was taken from body cameras worn by Hamas terrorists, CCTV from street and home security systems, car dash cameras, and even the mobile phones of victims.
Described as “disturbing,” “traumatizing” and “evidence of genocide,” the film shows uncensored the horror of the October 7 massacre in southern Israel by Hamas: men and women being shot, stabbed and blown up; bodies of dead babies still lying in their cribs where they were executed; naked and brutalized corpses of women after they were gang-raped; charred remains of humans burnt beyond all recognition.
It’s the stuff of nightmares, and also incontrovertible proof of the unspeakable savagery perpetrated by Hamas on innocent and unarmed civilians.
But for British left-wing activist and Guardian columnist Owen Jones, the 47 minutes apparently wasn’t enough proof.
Shortly after attending a press screening of the film in the UK, Jones uploaded a 25-minute video of himself discussing the film called, “I Watched The Hamas Massacre Film. Here Are My Thoughts” to his personal YouTube channel.
As stomach-churning as it is self-indulgent, the video shows Jones repeatedly attempting to cast doubt on certain aspects of the massacre, including the rape of women by Hamas terrorists and whether children were intentionally killed during the slaughter.
Owen Jones must surely be the only person in the Western world who has seen that video and yet refuses to believe what was captured so clearly in the visual record of those atrocities, including the scenes of rape, murder, and mutilation of young girls, and of dead babies lying in their cribs, in some cases made by the perpetrators themselves, so proud of their ghastly handiwork (one of the murderers phoned his mother to excitedly brag, “Mom, I killed ten Jews”), while others were recorded on CCTV cameras, and still others captured by the cameras belonging both to victims, and to those Israelis who managed to survive.
While Jones has been censured over his abhorrent remarks — some of which he has since claimed were taken out of context — the fact remains that The Guardian’s most high-profile columnist has been a big driver of misinformation and disinformation throughout the Israel-Hamas war.
Jones has no plausible reason for doubting the reality of those rapes or of the murders of children; among the tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of people who have seen Bearing Witness, not one has doubted its truthfulness save for Owen Jones. He’s not sure about there really having been rapes. But now else can one explain the pictures of dead girls, the blood seeping from their vaginas, their pelvises broken, the signs of torture on their naked bodies, some of them decapitated? And how can he suggest that the murdered children were not “intentionally killed”? How does one “unintentionally” behead babies or murder dozens of children, some by burning them alive, others by decapitation? Owen Jones’ virulent hatred of Israel is palpable; he insists on minimizing or even denying altogether the worst of the Hamas-inflicted atrocities — those rapes and mutilations of young girls, those murdered children — so as to deny legitimacy to the IDF’s campaign in Gaza to destroy Hamas. The Israelis exaggerate, the Israelis make things up. Also sprach Owen Jones.
Just last week, for example, Jones appeared on ITV’s popular show Good Morning Britain to talk about the temporary ceasefire and hostage release negotiations.
At one point during the discussion, Jones falsely claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had visited northern Gaza on November 29 and placed a rock that marked the first step toward the rebuilding of Israeli settlements inside the Strip.
The truth was that Netanyahu had been in southern Israel that day visiting communities that were devastated on October 7, and the rock that he laid down was, in fact, the foundation stone for a new community inside Israel to be named “Ofir,” after Ofir Libstein, the head of the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, who was killed while defending his community against Hamas terrorists.
After HonestReporting called out Jones’s blatant lies on social media, he issued an apology in which he claimed his mistake was the result of a mistranslated tweet, while still doubling down on the pernicious and untrue charge that Israel is seeking to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip….
Caught out in a fabrication, Jones blamed a “mistranslated tweet.” One would like to know exactly what that “mistranslation” was that would lead him to report that Netanyahu was inside Gaza, founding a “new settlement,” when he was inside Israel on the morning of November 29. What must have happened is this: Netanyahu was described as visting “the Gaza Envelope,” which Jones took to mean “Gaza.” But everyone who covers Israel knows that “the Gaza Envelope” refers to the territory inside Israel that is immediately adjacent to Gaza. How is it that Owen Jones didn’t realize this, given his obsessive attention to Israel and the Palestinians?
How many of those million viewers who learned from Owen Jones’ appearance on Good Morning Britain that Netanyahu was setting the cornerstone for a new Jewish settlement inside Gaza, subsequently paid attention to his apology and retraction, which was not made to the million viewers who had heard his initial, incorrect charge, but only on his Twitter account, where perhaps a few tens of thousands would have seen that retraction?
The damage to Israel’s reputation has been done. Nearly a million people in the U.K. will now believe, thanks to Owen Jones, that Israel is intent on seizing part of Gaza and planting Jewish settlements there. Owen Jones should be very proud of himself. And he’s right to doubt some of those charges about Hamas’ atrocities. We mustn’t let those clever Israelis garner too much sympathy for rapes of girls and murders of children — crimes for which Mr. Jones claims there is insufficient evidence.
Do you think any of this evidence of Jones’ malignity toward Israel might lead The Guardian to do the right thing, and let him go? Don’t be silly. They are more likely to give him a raise.

I’d add based on the number of individuals he’s targeted in exchange for, I’m guessing, petrodollars: Owen Jones’ virulent hatred of [truth] is palpable. He’s also a gay man, thus a member of the Chickens for KFC club. So, not so smart. But yes, the reputational damage is real. And of course, The Guardian retains him still.

And yes, he is virulently anti-Israel. Love your work here, Mr. Fitzgerald.

He hates women too. his support for “transwomen” is something to behold. Women have no rights to privacy, men pretending to be women must have free access to women’s spaces.

An astute observer pointed out that Owen Jones, in his video discussing this footage, was wearing a watermelon T-shirt.
The watermelon has been hijacked by Palestinian and other Hamas supporters to signify “resistance” to ‘Israeli occupation”. Same colours as the Pali flag, you know.
So any hope he might regard the footage impartially was already null and void.

God will one day take good „care“ of Owen Jones. And his reward will be something no one in his right mind would ever want!!
