Brazos County Expo Complex Needs At Least $10 Million Dollars In Deferred Maintenance Repairs

The Brazos County Expo Complex, which opened in 2007, is in need of at least $10 million dollars of deferred maintenance. A presentation to county commissioners Tuesday (May 7) by the county’s project manager contained priority one recommendations from an outside consultant. The list given by Trevor Lansdown addressed the exhibit hall and the parking lot. Yet to be done, is evaluating the condition of the rest of the complex. Lansdown’s summary included replacing exhibit hall’s roof, which was not included in the $10 million dollar estimate. Inside the building, consultants recommended adding water valves to allow plumbing repairs to specific areas without shutting down water service to the entire expo complex. Another recommendation was adding stairs to access the overhead heating and air conditioning units and electrical panels. Lansdown said current access is by using a scissor lift. Commissioners were also told the exhibit hall floor, the parking lot, and perimeter fences needed attention. College Station Police Arrest A Home Health Worker For Illegal Charges On A Client’s Credit Card

College Station police arrest a Bryan woman for property crimes against an elderly and disabled resident that took place in October 2023. The CSPD arrest report includes the transcript of two apologies that 42 year old Wilma Nickerson texted to the victim. Nickerson was working as a home health aide when she is accused of using the victim’s credit card to make $805.69 in unauthorized charges. The 13 illegal charges over a five day period included three nights at a local hotel, three gas stations, two fast food restaurants, and two dollar stores. Nickerson, who was booked into the Brazos County jail on Wednesday (May 8), was released the same day after posting bonds totaling $15,000 dollars.

Blinn College Trustees Increase Tuition And Fees For The 2024-25 Academic Year

Blinn College trustees set tuition and fees for the 2024-25 academic year. Chief financial officer Clen Burton said increasing tuition one dollar per credit hour and fees by three dollars per credit hour for all students will generate $1.4 million dollars. Dr. Burton also mentioned Blinn will be receiving $6 million dollars in new revenue from the state during the next academic year. Trustees were also reminded that of the 50 community colleges in Texas, Texas is most dependent on tuition and fees and generates the least amount of property tax revenue. The trustees vote also established housing and meal prices at Blinn’s campus in Brenham. A Blinn news release says according to data from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), Blinn’s 2023-24 tuition and fee rates saved students approximately 39.4% compared to the average state university.
