Finland is sending its 21st defence aid package to Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence has announced.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said Finnish President Sauli Niinistö decided on the matter, following a proposal submitted by the government.

The ministry said that this aid package would cost Finland around 106 million euros.

"Finland is committed to supporting Ukraine in both the short and long term," Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen (NCP) said in the statement, adding that the total value of the defence aid packages Finland has sent to Ukraine amounts to 1.6 billion euros.

As in past aid packages, the ministry has not revealed the contents, method of delivery nor shipment schedule, for operational reasons and to guarantee it is safely delivered.

The ministry said that the decision about sending the package took into account the needs of Ukraine as well as the Finnish Defence Forces' resources.
